Ex-Manual star Dwayne Sutton: Louisville offered "a spot on the team"; WKU calls

Louisville basketball's assistant coaches spoke with ex-Manual star Dwayne Sutton on Wednesday; WKU reached out, too.

Would be happy with any of those guys but would like at least 1 scholly to use on 17 class.

Have to like staff not assuming anything & don't put all eggs in one basket.

Dwayne Morgan,a UNLV transfer, has a top four of St. John's, UConn, Maryland and VCU, team Melo Basketball coach Dwayne Wise told SNY.tv.

"Those are the only schools he's going to visit," Wise said.

The 6-foot-8 Morgan averaged 5.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in 19.3 minutes with the Runnin' Rebels. He will sit out the upcoming season.

Wise said no visits have yet been set, but that Morgan won't take any until after the semester ends at UNLV in mid-may.

"Right after the semester," Wise said. "He wants to leave the school in good academic standing. Whenever you get a lot of transfers, it goes against the school's APR and he doesn't want to leave them like that."

St. John's in the mix for Arizona freshman guard Justin Simon and Michigan State sophomore forward Marvin Clark and is working on visits for both, sources said.

Clark will visit Providence Thursday-Saturday, he told SNY.tv.

Dwayne Morgan from UNLV is a Maryland kid.... if he comes our way maybe that will help with a kid like Rafus who i would guess know each other since they are from the same area. could help to have a friendly face around.

I like the per minute stats, but I really know nothing about him. Anyone have any firsthand Morgan experiences?

With Christian and Amar leaving the program, I am concerned about SJU’s lack of size up front. There are currently three available scholarships for 2016-17, none for 2017-18 and then two for 2018-19.

To fill the remaining three spots for 2016-17 at least one should be immediately eligible. Most likely, this would require a graduate student (similar to Johnson or Mouvika this past season) and would therefore open a scholarship for the 2017-18 Season, improving the roster balance. Furthermore, the “right” player would help the 2017-18 Team get some wins. Good high school players will not flock to a program that loses more than half its games. One horrible year (8-24) can be overlooked, but the 2016-17 Team must produce some success (16-16?) in order to attract top flight talent.

Adding a transfer, who must sit out a year before playing, would not contribute to successful season in 2016-17. I must admit, the transfer of Daniel Giddens (Ohio State freshman) is intriguing, but I doubt he’d be interested in SJU.

Simply burning a scholarship would improve the roster balance, but would not improve the win total.

Awarding a scholarship to a two-star recruit (with potential) would not help the 2016-17 win total or the roster balance.

It is understandable the staff may not be so descriminating in trying to get a power forward to play next season but that should not be the case in recruiting transfers who will sit out next season and play for two or three years after that. A transfer of the latter has to compared to next year's rising high school seniors, next year's jucos and next year's eligible transfers.

Staff seems to like kids for Maryland as both Johnson and Owens hail from that State. We've had good success from Juco's from Maryland in the past in Thornton and Hatten.

Matt apparently has a very good relationship with AAU programs in Baltimore area, a very fertile location.

Per Josh Gershon;
Arizona transfer Justin Simon will visit #OklahomaState this weekend, per a source.

Per Zags re Kostas A

.@Kostas_ante34 has no visit dates set, but is definitely visiting St. John's and Florida, per @SeanMoHoops from @nikehoopsummit

Antetokounmpo when asked about schools recruiting him. "I'm going to take visits to St. John's and Florida, but I don't know the dates yet. St. John's I want to visit them. They've been recruiting me hard. They said they have a great program and a great coach as does Florida. I'm excited to go on my first visits."
