Transfer Portal

It’s premature to speculate on what Players will stay under Pitino . Or , who he wants to stay . Judging from this past season , projecting this 18 win Team to NCAA stature next year is tough . 11 of the Wins occurred in OOC play . The BE results are more indicative of that Groups ability . They finished 8 th . And , won 7 games . Pretty bad . We lose the 2 Seniors , Mathis , Nywie . Plus , most likely Pinzon , Traore and AC . Soriano has 1 more season if he chooses to stay . Look for Pitino to bring in 4-5 players . I doubt it makes sense to retain both , Posh and Curbelo . Neither shoots well enough to be Rick’s PG . Posh is probably a better bet to stay . Storr should stay . Wusu in an off the bench player too. King is a question , As is Gardner . Jones will stay or opt to declare for Pros . Overseas . Don’t know if he’s Rick’s type of Wing . Stanley is 50/50 again ,does he contribute enough Rebounds ? Or , defense. ? So , it’s going to be a PG who can shoot . 2 Long Wings that can shoot the 3 and maybe an off the Bench SG . And , off the Bench BE quality Center who can rebound , defend and shot block . It will be like ordering presents for Christmas . Rick will have a lot of kids wanting to play for him who are currently elsewhere .
Pitino can coach some of these guys up.

How many more wins did we need to dance ?
I ask honestly 3-4 ? Well there were that many games and more where our coaching staff helped the other team snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat. Pitino coaching this team would easily have gotten this group the few more wins, which would have all been conference wins, in order to dance. I have said it repeatedly I like our returning players as well as our 3 recruits. This is no rebuild and no need to tear down and start from ground zero like Norm, Mullin and to an extent Anderson had. The new coach will inherit a good core, with experience and some good recruits. 2/3 should be able to contribute from day 1, with Reed being a question mark.
If the Coach is Pitino which I believe it will be, it will not be too hard for him to get this group a few more wins without getting a few transfers.
With the portal it can only be better. And sorry but I will never ever be ready to play anyone over Posh as a senior. He has just done too much to date and will go down as one of my favourite players ever. I am not ready to throw him aside for a pg who shoots better as you advocate.

I agree North. If Pitino comes and he retains Posh,Jones,Storr, Soriano, Wusu, Gardner, Stanley and Lededborg, you add a couple of knock wing shooters and another PG to back up Posh through the portal and that’s a solid team.

Remember Lavin’s first year.

The only player guaranteed to start under Pitino would be Soriano. Storr is hard to replace because of his upside and could be a star under Pitino. He is even keeled and a good team player.
Everyone else, including Posh, would have to show much more than they did this past season.
Posh showed a lot of bad decision-making and took a few steps back. Wusu is a solid 6th man.
Everyone else can be replaced.

IMO, take 3 out of 4 against Nova and Hall. We get the BE six bids, sneaking in a first four matchup at 21-12, 10-10 w/ wins over UConn and PC. The players provided the staff many 2nd half leads but the in game strategy/execution of said staff were not able to close out games. Let’s hope this deficiency is finally addressed for our favorite CBB team.

I think Posh will have his best year ever under Pitino and Storr has NBA type potential especially with Pitino. Also Joel I think would start

Bringing back upperclassman who have a lot of potential is huge for your first year when you want to his the ground running.

Curbelo gets a concussion during the official announcement tuesday so not sure what's in store for him

Ridiculous Is all I have to say.
A starting line up of Posh and Storr in the backcourt, with Soriano, Stanley and Jones up front, with exactly 8 months of practice under Coach Pitino prior to their first game next October excites the hell out of me. Everyone one of those players has shown they are capable of scoring, rebounding, playing D , Storr needs some work on D. Give them a structured system, especially Jones, and no telling what they can do. Maybe Gardner works his way in to the starting line up, maybe the juco does, they both have very good size, Wusu off the bench, King backing up Posh , that is already 9 players I listed. Can’t really play too many more than that.
Replacing everyone, wow, all I can say is we really have a different set of values. I never want any kid to transfer.
Hopefully you don’t have a kid who plays university sports that has to read what you post.

This is funny. I think.

If Pitino can retain our core group and recruits, the only thing he would to do is bring in a couple of knock down wing shooters from the portal.

You never want a kid to transfer when they are your players! The entire lineup next year is really the coach's decision just as Anderson shuffled his starting 5 this entire year with only Soriano being the constant.

Posh sat some games. Some games he played the SG.
Other times he played the point. Same with Curbelo.
Jones never started again in the crunch of the schedule.
Omar started eventually but then would ride the pines due to fouls. There was no consistent top 6 players.
The consensus was we have a BAD TEAM by most of you here!
Now, you all want to play the loyal alums supporting the kids.
Yes, if Pitino is the coach we "may" have better results.
If the schedule is as weak as this year we likely could be in the top half W/L-wise. But this group was never going to make post-season noise and most of you couldn't wait for the season to be over.
If you think that by just adding Pitino will make Posh a better and smarter player, I beg to differ. Adding bigger bodies that can shoot is going to be the key to improving the offense.
Defense is instilled in practices and requires a disciplined approach. Offense requires smart players in the backcourt with quick movement and passing. We continually overdribbled the ball.
Watch Princeton for the disciplined approach.
It would be great if our players could all make a big improvement next year but we know that some are what they are and a new coach may just bury those players deeper on the bench. It's best if some move on for their own good.
Yes, you hate players to transfer but you will covet a half dozen of the hundreds in the portal in a couple of weeks.

Jose Perez is 25 years old and has been to 4 different colleges! I think it's time the man tries to earn some $$$
If Mass comes along with Rick then his best player from Manhattan, Perez, might be an interesting pursuit as he left Manhattan after they fired Mass and went to WV but the NCAA didn't allow immediate eligibility and now he may head to portal.
Perez averaged 3 pts a game at Marquette after transferring from Gardner Webb. The only year his FG% was over 40% was his freshman year at Gardner Well, I'll pass on him.

Excellent post RMN. A few points. The first one is not going to be very popular; I have my concerns about Posh as the PG in a structured offense. His game seems tailor made for CMA's helter skelter offense. Remember, he had his best seasons when he played off the ball. Having said that, if anyone can get him to make the necessary adjustments it's Pitino. Also, while I like Stanley a lot, I still haven't seen enough of a sample size to know whether or not he can handle the bulk of the minutes at the PF spot on an upper tier Big East team. He has the heart of a lion, no doubt, just not sold on him as a 25+ minute big east level player. While we have a solid returning corr group for Pitino to work with, I do think that he's going to look to upgrade the overall talent level and balance through the portal.
