Transfer Portal

I get being disappointed with
Storr a little but not Posh.

For most of these kids, right or wrong, they’re banking their entire future on basketball.

Posh is a rising senior with aspirations of playing professionally. If Pitino told him — hey kid, I’m likely going to recruit over you and I can’t see you playing more than 15-20 minutes a game, could you really blame him for portaling?

I get that Pitino is a hall of fame coach who would likely make Posh better regardless of PT. I also get that Posh has another year of eligibility after next year.

But basketball players have a brief shelf life. Posh will have an opportunity to get major minutes at a good program next year if he so chooses. I’m not sure I would act any different than Posh in this situation assuming I’m right about what Pitino told him. Can anybody on the site say with certainty they would have acted differently?
From what little I know of the situation, I don't blame Rick for how he handled it, and I don't blame Posh for how he handled it.

Funny how? Like he amuses you?.....

I'm going to go back to what LJSA said a few days ago and obviously if you read what he's written the last couple years he's well tuned in to what's happening in general. He a lot of stuff is NIL based and things take longer iI'm paraphrasing or maybe reading into what he was posting but he's been giving very subtle hints at things which I'm noticing and I took screen shots and showed them to Dinkins and he's posting hints then a few hours later subtle news is coming out.

NIL is a major factor in these immediate eligible portal guys. Let's hope we have the ammunition which I think we will but money is money

Snapping at each other is a counterproductive exercise. People have a right to their opinions right wrong or indifferent. I think that we can agree we appreciate the kids for coming and for the most part giving us all they had while they were here regardless of their true talent levels. Everyone on this team had strengths and weaknesses it is a shame the coaching staff had no clue how to use them properly. Posh was always tough as nails but lost his shot. Wusu had the heart of a lion. Cubello played more like a globetrotter than an nba guy. Joel was a bit slow and plodding but effective. they were what they were and Pittino is brutally honest with them. He plans to get players that will replace them and take most of their minutes. This may be this year or next year but you can see already by his offers he is on the job. He will not give anyone unearned time just because they are a fan favorite. Save your vitriol for cooley and the rest of the big east teams because we will be back and ready to battle.

How quickly we forget that kids can leave whenever they want. What’s happening when a new coach comes in is perfectly fair. Kids never respected that scholarships were 4 year plans. In fact I shouldn’t call them kids. They aren’t kids anymore.
I was 22 years old (about the same age as a lot of these kids) when I graduated SJU and went to work in real estate in Manhattan. I not only needed to prove myself to my new boss, I needed to prove myself over and over to whoever my new sales manager was, which was usually about every 6 months. As a producer, of course I was always afforded the opportunity to prove myself, but I also understood that I was only as good as my last sale. I knew that no one owed me anything. To the best of my knowledge, Posh was afforded the opportunity to prove himself to Rick. I am certain that his minutes would have fluctuated based on his production. So tell me people, what is wrong with being rewarded based on what you do, not what you've done in the past?

Plus you have to prove your gambling and texting ability every night to Eric and me. That's a lot of pressure

I never sais that he should have the same role guaranteed, if you read the post that I was referring to you would understand. I have no idea of what conversations took place between Posh and the new coaching staff. For more than 60 years I have rooted for St Johns and whoever was coaching, I am definitely not going to stop now.

Additionally, where do you get the nerve to tell any young man what he should or should not so. Posh ain't your child.
??Additionally, where do you get the nerve to tell any young man what he should or should not so. Posh ain't your child.??

You lost me at Posh ain't your child.

I'm not Mr. Alexander's advisor. Never conversed with him in any shape, matter or form. Ergo, I never advised him to do anything, nada, zilch. Your statement is condescending and unnecessary.

Were he my Man Child, I would have advised him just as I opined and which you seem to take objection to.......stay and finish your degree courses. Play yourself back into shape and improve your shooting skills. I suggested that his ego could affect his decision to stay or leave. His move to the shooting guard position confirmed his only natural position was point guard. You seemingly see him as a starter on a Pitino team. You'll never know now because he chose to get off the bus.

Fans here are rightfully expressing their opinions on the players leaving. Why harp on the views of those who may disagree with others here? We are grown ass old men and take enough crap from our wives. We don't need other old farts telling us what right or nerve we have to say anything.

The subject here is transfers and the pros and cons of 700 players.

We understand that you, North, and a handful of others were upset that Pitino shot from the hip when he boldly said he was here to change the culture. A culture we have been deriding for decades now. He's a local coach and very familiar with all our players as he recruited some for Iona.
He identified 6-8 players who he said may not fit his system. Some of that opinion was formulated from talking to coach Van Macon.

What exactly are you all now complaining about, other than each other's rightful opinions?

You were right about some fans being dysfunctional but don't fall into the rabbit hole yourself.

These are exciting times! Go with the flow.

In the real world Monte, it’s generally a combination of both. Certainly in professional sports, people get big contracts based on what they’ve done (see Aaron Judge) factored in with what is expected they can continue to do. Sales may be a little different but in most of corporate America you are paid on a combination of past performance and expected future performance with a retention factor thrown in. Again, I am not saying for a minute that Rick can’t have guys that he sees as his guys but also don’t think Poshs past three years are irrelevant in predicting his likely performance next year wherever he plays.

Oh man. I just want to thank every poster on this board who has ever written a post longer than 1 sentence for letting me keep my mind active snd prove to myself I dont have alzheimers and figure out who posters now were. :)

The vibes on the site are what they are because despite the context, even though it all makes sense, it still feels like negative press to get pelted with tweets about player after player leaving St. John’s.

So, for the well being of the fans, I hope rick gets us on the board with a transfer soon to start getting the ball rolling in the other direction
