Transfer Portal 2022

My question is what's the penalty for starting this thread.

You have to watch the stream of SJU loss at UConn daily for rest of your life.

This is why the transfer portal and the one time transfer is so huge.  Ewing and Georgetown are not looking to rebuild.  He wants to win next year and make a huge jump.  He knows he got a huge break not being let go after this past year.  But he can't live on being Pat Ewing much longer.

You get all 3 of these kids and they all are immediately eligible and things start to look different on the Hilltop very quickly:

Former SJU recruit from Bronx and OSL HS who did struggle from three this season

Jeff Borzello
Dashawn Davis would be an intriguing addition to the transfer portal. Led the PAC-12 in assists this season, 5.5 per game. Also averaged 10.9 points. New York native.

If Mathis decides not to stick around I think he could help us. But with him coming back and most likely looking at 20 minutes we can’t bring in another sub 20% 3pt shooter.

He’d instantly be our best bet at getting to the rim.

I actually was expecting this from Davis.

And I'm now going to push the theory that we aren't offering Hammond because Davis let it be known through backchannels that he would be entering portal and is interested in coming home.

Davis would be a nice back up for Posh and maybe a spot starter.  And that is fine but he is no difference maker.

They need to hit the mini-lottery a few times in this portal.  Meaning 2 high level starters.

Cannot run it back with same roster minus Champagnie plus a few Stef Smith/Montez Mathis type transfers and expect significantly different results.

Agree, but hard to imagine that happening frankly.

Yup that is the dilemma. But others think retaining low level players is somehow the key to success...

Meanwhile Georgetown is out there hiring a shark for a recruiter and about to grab half of LSU's outgoing roster.

What exactly is a double-digit guy at a program that just lost a close one in the Sweet Sixteen looking for?

If I'm Adams, I would tell him that while he may supposedly be considering a return, it is not an option for us. Good luck.

Little odd that he would do it the day after a tough loss in the Regionals.

From Chicago and initially had committed to DePaul.

The reason for the transfer portal made sense when a coach left the school or a player was buried on the bench but it is escalating to the point where players are leaving on a whim. If this rate of turnover continues the fan bases may get turned off to the point the sport suffers.

You can't put the genie back in the bottle now.  Plus it was not just for making it easier for kids to leave when a coach leaves it was also the idea that when a kid transferred he had to get a formal release of his scholarship from the school.  And schools could either not release him or could put conditions on his release-meaning he could not go to certain schools.  And without a formal release if you left and enrolled at another school you literally could not be on scholarship for 1 year as a penalty for leaving without a release in addition to having to sit a year.

That too was considered unfair so the portal got rid of that where you don't need permission from the school to transfer and there are no conditions.  Then the last step was all the conferences got rid of the intra-transfer rules and so now you can transfer anywhere without penalty.

last year I tried keeping eye out on names who entered and potential fits.

Too much movement for me... I'll just wait to see where things end up for us.  Similar for HS recruiting.. hard to get caught up any longer in players earlier than senior year or those we don't have a legit shot at.
