Back on topic ... regrettably I think we are going to get crushed next season.
The main interest will be in seeing how the new staff's strategy, tactics, and player use develop, and to see how the incoming bright spots from the recruiting effort develop and compete over the course of the year.
Hopefully we will be competitive enough that it doesn't take the heart out of the incoming freshmen and also doesn't negatively impact recruiting for next year.
A good season to "keep it real" in terms of expectations, I think. Just too much to hope that the staff somehow catches lightening in a bottle right off the bat and has a Cinderella story for the ages. I'm just hoping for some bright spots is all.
I do agree that 11-14 overall wins and 4-6 in conference wins are the likely outcome for the season. The problem on here and for all fans won't so much be absorbing the overall outcome of the season, almost certain to be below .500 overall, but the inevitable criticisms on a game to game basis about player rotations, in game decisions, and losses that could have been wins if only ______. Inevitably Mullin's lack of experience will be questioned, the lack of talent will be scrutinized, and the progress in corralling 4 star recruits a prominent discussion. It will take a lot of discipline for fans to be patient, so I am girding myself for those types of reactions. Rebuilding this program (again) is a 3-4 season process, which was cemented by the loss of CO and Jordan. I just hope calmer heads prevail around here. There is an incredible amount to be positive about.
We are coming off a 20+ win season, and an NCAA tourney appearance. I don't think the program as a whole is in as big a shambles as some are making it out to be....
Shambles is not a word I would use, who did? Oh yeah, you. The image of the team, despite a couple knuckleheads, is better than it's been in a while at least with regard to product on the court and recruiting prowess (both Lavin's and the new staff's) but the team loses top 6 scorers, top 6 rebounders, top 6 assist men, every player who played double digit minutes. That, combined with the fact that in a pretty good incoming class two are one year rentals, is a sure sign of rebuilding that's likely to take 2-3 classes and that's all that either of the first two posters were saying.
