Things that bugged me about today's Syracuse Game

SU was undefeated and ranked #1 up until a few weeks ago, and are having one of their best seasons ever. There was a lot of buzz surrounding the team, not to mention the attention brought on by the actions of Mr. and Mrs. Fine. Many of their NYC fans went out and bought tickets a while ago in anticipation of possibly seeing an undefeated, # 1 ranked team. During our heyday of the 80's, the fans at the SJU-SU games were usually split 50/50, so I'm not surprised that it was 75% SU fans at the game today. They had their day today, we'll have ours soon enough and when we do I want SU on the schedule so we can inflict the same type of beat down on them.

In the past the place was maybe 60/40 Cuse to SJU fans. Today was disgraceful. About 90% Cuse fans. Embarrassing. I've been to the SJU vs Cuse game just about every year and this year it was by far the worst. Kudos to them. They brought the fans in force.

1. you are ignoring the fact that if you sit in an SJU season ticket section, more than 1/2 of those seats were occupied by a Syracuse fan.

2. I don't ever want to play them again once they are out of conference EXCEPT in the NCAAs. If your from Brooklyn and want to play at MSG, come to SJU and play a ton of games here, or go to a Big East school and play here in the BET and every other year. Other than that, let a kid from NYC have his friends read about him in the newspapers if he wants to go to Syracuse.

Agree that tix in St. John's season section shouldn't go to Cuse fans. Regardless Garden would have been overwhelmingly orange. As for keeping them out of MSG, I highly doubt that's going to happen as MSG is going to want them (they're a huge draw) and they want MSG (for exposure/recruiting). If it's a relationship that benefits us why shouldn't we continue to play them? That would be bad business.

I don't think Syracuse will lose anything in terms of success and recruiting when they go to the acc. They are the no. 2 team in the country. Winning and success will allow you to recruit, no matter what conference you are in. Right now they seem to have no trouble recruiting and winning in the "best conference in country". And just because they go to the acc, doesn't mean they are all of a sudden going to be recruiting the south or anything like that. They will still continue to recruit NYC and everywhere else. That will not change. Syracuse will be just fine in the ACC.

As far as all the posters who are calling out everyone for not going to the games.....shame on you. Just because some of us don't go to every single game does not make us any less of a fan. Some of us aren't located in NYC, and can't just pick up and go to the games. Don't sit there and make it sound like you are better than everyone else for going to the game. As far as the student section goes........get over it. It happens everywhere. I used to do the same exact thing for football games. Its not that big of a deal.

Finally, for those who were complaining about them dunking and showboating at the end of the game, there is a saying that my old coach used to say: "If you don't like it, do something about it....." I don't blame syracuse one bit. If the other team isn't going to stop you, why would you hold back? If our players didn't like what they were doing, they should have played a little defense and hustled a little bit and stopped them.

I hope other schools don't read this site, because it makes all of us look like a bunch of whiny girls

The Cuse will struggle not because of the ACC move, but because they are going to lose their HOF head coach in next few years to retirement. Jim Boeheim is irreplaceable and that coupled with a move down to a southern conference will be difficult to overcome.

Really ticked.

1) The Garden was about 70% Syracuse - all in orange. Come on guys - some of these SU fans travelled 300 miles to go to this game. Sickening to be way outnumbere din our own building.

2) My section - 109 - is a season ticket holders section. It also was overwhelmingly orange. I could care less about how much you sold you tickets for on Stubhub, but if you did, you suck - period. You helped in a small way to give SU another home game. I don't blame people from Syracuse form wanting to visit NYC - we are in the greatest city in the world - but come here to visit a museum, not because you can take over the Garden for the day.

3) Seeing some Orange in our student section. At $99 a season ticket, it is a PRIVILEGE to sit in great seats behind the basket. To see SU fans in the first effing row under the baskets means you sold your seat for $300 plus. You know who you are, and you suck also. You'd probably sell your sister or mother for a few hundred bucks if you could.

4) Those f'ing Syracuse fans. Come on you morons - starting a "Let's go Orange chant" when you are up by 25 points is way uncool. The game was over, you are whipping a six man team of first year pleyers with an undersized front line, and you are acting like its nip and tuck against Kentucky. F' all of you SU losers.

In some ways it was a going away party. Outside of the BET, this is the last time we play Syracuse at MSG in a league game. I'll miss the rivalry, bu their fans kicked our fans asses way more than their team kicked our teams ass. And some of those lazy asses post here - some of you claim to have season tix but don't.

On the plus side, thank you to the student who brought a "3-angelo" sign to the game. I'm copyrighting that nickname.

I haven't read this thread any further than this initial post, but I just wanna make sure you know that I gave the "artsy" redzone guy the idea for 3'angelo after I saw you suggest it on here. We made all the posters yesterday. Well done with the nickname, we all loved it.

And I agree 10000% with everything else you wrote.

Bill ( the student section ) did a real good job today. A real good job. That was the only bright spot today

Here is my question about Syracuse playing in the garden once they move to the ACC. Why?? Unless it is against us or the BE tournament or some other inseason tourney that plays in the garden, when do they play at the garden. What, they are going to play Duke at the garden. Why they have a 35,000 seat facility on campus which gives them a much bigger advantage then MSG. Are the going to schedule a strong non-conference opponent and play at the garden? again they dont do that now.

am I misguided here. and if i am would somewhat explain why we should be afraid of syracuse playing at msg. they dont do it now, why would they do it when they are in the acc.

Mike, I second that opinion. If you observed our students, they screamed and cheered as if they building was all red. I hope that all of you are able to keep season tix when you graduate. Great job, and as we all know Jhansonbro is the leader of the student section.

If they can't keep their tickets I'm willing to kick in for a sort of adopt a student scholarship and contribute so Bill Brusca ( sleeveless gu ) sits in my section

it played out most exactly how I though it Would. Actually it was better than last yrs blow out or the year befores or before that. In fact I cant remember the last time we had a competitive game vs them. I did enjoy watching them stand for 4 minutes at the beginning. Then they were pretty quiet until those back to back dunks which were pretty sick. This is the toughest match up for our guys of all the Big East teams. We didnt give up and they will bring it on Wednesday I am sure. Cuse will get theirs. Good luck in ACC with BC. They have done so well since their move.

we had a very competitive game vs. Syracuse us last year's Big East Tournament and may have won the game had DJ not been hurt.[/

Was thinking more reg season when they out number us 2-1 and throw SJU tshirts back on the court after the tshirts toss. But yes I remember

And I just keep thinking about poor James Southerland who it seems is now at the level of catfish on the Syracuse depth chart. Not only did he realize that as a holdover playing for STJ this year he probably would have had a good chance at averaging 15 and 5 on a borderline NCAA team but that when he made the classless move of "attempting" to steal the ball as time ran out, not only did he not succeed, but 3LO almost put him on his butt. The future is brighter all the time. If Lav holds true to form in April signings, this board may become unrecognizable with a marked decline in grumpiness.

Just got home from today's game, which ended almost six hours ago and I am still mad as hell! :yell: :furious:

I am furious at several things.

First and foremost, I am furious at our fans. Look, I get Syracuse has a big following in the NYC Metro area and they are ranked #2, so I expected a lot of their fans to come out. But for crying out loud, we couldn't even fill up HALF the Garden with our fans?

And what's with our student sections being out of sync with their chants? If that's intentional, it's stupid. I'd much rather hear the combined voices of 5000 chanting "Let's Go Johnnies!" rather than 2500 voices alternating. The Orange fans certainly had no problem coordinating their stupid chants.

I'm furious at our fans again for selling their tickets to Syracuse fans. If I can't go to a game, and my son can't go in my place, I will NOT sell them online or to anyone who I don't know. I've offered them in the past to fans on this forum, but I will not give them or sell them to a freakin' Orange fan!

I'm furious at the Orange fans. I get that you can root for your team no matter where they play. But to disrespect the St. John's fans by doing their stupid standing (how original!) until Syracuse scores is not only disrespectful, but it's downright inappropriate at an opposing team's arena.

I'm furious at MSG for showcasing Syracuse stuff at their stores. Are we not the "home team?"

I'm furious at the classless Orange players for their acrobatic slam dunks when the game was clearly over.

I'm furious at our guys for letting them get away with that garbage. It seems like Boeheim eventually called off the dogs, but if I'm on that court and one of those players pulls another stunt like that, I'm going at him hard. Real hard, intentional foul or not!

Everywhere I went today after the game I ran into those obnoxious Orange fans. After the game, my wife, my son and his fiance all went to Hill Country Barbecue on West 26th street. The place was full of freakin' Orange fans!

On the train home back to CT, six Orange fans, and one of them exceptionally drunk (what a surprise!) got in my car. Just looking at them made me sick. And angry.

Look, I've been to games where we've been blown out. I've been to games where we've lost tough ones. But this game today really struck a nerve with me. I've never felt this way after a loss. I've never written a post like this where I am this upset. My wife says I'm too passionate about this team. DUH! It's my team because it's my school.

Even she started to tick me off tonight!

I want revenge so bad on this team and their fans.

I think I'm gonna go have myself a glass of wine. Or two. I gotta calm down. :(

I really agree with you but to a certain extent it certainly wasn't unexpected. I knew what was going to happen every last minute of my 3 1/2 hour car and train rides to get to the Garden which was abysmal in expediting the crowd to their seats. A completely obnoxious experience, My back still hurts but the simple truth is that I thought they deserved my support after the Depaul game. I knew they had no chance but it was fun seeing a sellout for a change. I have to admit I skipped two games this season for so so reasons but the team has kept my interest by not giving up and I regretted it. Yesterday was the first time they pulled a "foldo" but I'm not sure I can blame them. It was a total mismatch after all. I'll take the schlep again Wed. and what happens will probably determine whether skip another one and check out Myrtle Beach for a while. Well it won't be long now and we'll be combing the Net for recruiting info and updates on Lavin. At the moment we still have a half a team to worry about and a sick coach. I thought we'd be a lot further along on our road to success but that's SJU for you.

I agree with your whole post pretty much. I figured 75/25 Cuse to STJ. But do you really think these ppl traveled for this team? Most are from the area. Cuse grads are all over the city. No question STJ fans sold tickets. I know the ppl behind the basket you mentioned and 3 Cuse fans behind STJ bench too!!!!!

Just let this damn team go away and I hope Monasch stands up and does not schedule them in the future.

You know that won't happen. As Boeheim has indicated they have been playing St.John's and Georgetown for 100 years and intend on keeping us on their schedule. Even though, I don't appreciate the lowly Cuse crowd at the garden I want a chance to pummel these lowlifes.

Two way street. Yeah we've been playing for years but its time Monasch takes a stand and I hope Gtown AD does as well. If it was AD at either school its what I would do. I still think Boeheim never coaches a game in the ACC.

It's about $, If it is a money maker they schedule it. Hard to take but reality.

Isn't it really funny that Syracuse fans can dictate our future schedule by showing up in force they way they have in the past and did yesterday, and actually have more say than us?

Agree moose.
Out of onference we should keep dook and ucla.
We can replace syracuse with just about any school in the country.
They all love to come here.
I'd have no problem playing Pitt or WV as their fans are not going to overtake MOMA.
