Things that bugged me about today's Syracuse Game

And don't forget whining Jim playing the refs for a good no-call from the opening minute. If his sins catch up to him in the afterlife, no doubt his punishment will involve looking at his whining face in a mirror for all eternity.[/.

True he is. a famous whinner What I didnt like was that he had his team scoring pts to the bitter. end. Our payback time is coming Hope coach and staff do not forget

There were some St. John's students in front of us today (or so we thought) who came in a group of about 5 or 6, all wearing red and ready to root for us so it seemed. A few minutes into the game one of the so-called St. John's student takes off his red STJ shirt and throws it on the chair to reveal his orange SU t-shirt. Someone asked him about & one if the guys still wearing red said that they needed to do that so he could get into the student section with them. They brought SU fans with them disguised as STJ fans until they got to their seats. Unreal

.
Thats low

Just got home for The Garden.

Custer had better odds than we did today !!!

I would not schedule Syracuse once they enter the ACC.

At best, I would only play them once every 4 or 5 yrs.

Why do we need to go up to the Carrier Dome in a home and home. No benefit for us.

Jimmy wants us on his schedule, as we all know, for recruiting purposes and to satisfy his NY area alumni.

We are not in the business of helping Syracuse. It's a non-starter.

Perhaps we should look to work with the Tri-State area CYO's and Catholic High Schools once a year for a special package to a St. John's game at MSG.

At least then we would know that we would be somewhat certain that we would have more people rooting for us.

We sure could have used more support today. How is that for a mastery of the understatement.

We are one of the worst fans in college basketball. What a friggin embarrassment to be at the game today. Brought my 16 year old son and he was like Dad how can you root for ST johns and wear that shirt? This sucked.. Really sucked my friends... Off to the Seton Hall at the Pru center next. Hate to say it but SH has a better fan base than us... The administration is at fault...

As much as I hate to say it, even if we don't schedule SU once they leave for the ACC, I am sure the Garden will be happy to schedule them against another school and call it a neutral site game for both teams. Duke does it almost every year.  Maybe part of a double header and call it some silly event like the Metro Challenge. All they need is a corporate sponser.

As for the crowd...I remember coming to STJ - SU games as far back as the late 80s early 90s when I was a kid. During that time I have only missed one STJ-SU game at the Garden. This was by far the most SU fans I can ever remember. The game a few years ago (with Johnny Flynn & Eric Devendorf dancing on the bench as their walk ons were scoring at the end) was more infuriating for me...but today's was without a doubt the most embarrassing.

it played out most exactly how I though it Would. Actually it was better than last yrs blow out or the year befores or before that. In fact I cant remember the last time we had a competitive game vs them. I did enjoy watching them stand for 4 minutes at the beginning. Then they were pretty quiet until those back to back dunks which were pretty sick. This is the toughest match up for our guys of all the Big East teams. We didnt give up and they will bring it on Wednesday I am sure. Cuse will get theirs. Good luck in ACC with BC. They have done so well since their move.

we had a very competitive game vs. Syracuse us last year's Big East Tournament and may have won the game had DJ not been hurt.

This brought back bad memories of the Roosevelt Bowie era when they routinely came th the Garden and beat us up...I am confident that tables will turn shortly...

Actually I remember the Louie (Orr) and Bowie Show quite well.

Was at a nationally televised game at Alumni Hall. St. John's had Reggie Carter among others.

This was pre-ESPN.

We lost in the last minute.

Walking up the escalator to the game I was standing next to a grown man with his son and the dad had syracuse stickers on his face. That pretty much set the tone for the game.

The posters on this board are the diehards; the casual SJU hoops fan probably goes to only a few home games per season and avoids the Syr-excuse game (a) expecting a loss (b) knowing their fans will outnumber us 4:1. It's all a bit self-fulfilling...

The SJU fan can go to MSG numerous times per season. For the Syr-excuse fan, this is like a bowl game, a chance to go to one of the mecca's of the game every two years. Plus as someone pointed out, there are a sight more Syr-excuse fans living & working in NYC area, than say... Syracuse. So they come out of the woodwork, give them credit for that. Doesn't mean we stop supporting our team but I would expect the Administration to take notice and come up with some creative ideas to reach out to the SJU fan-base and get them to attend the Garden.

When you are the # 2 team in the land, people will hurt themselves jumping on the bandwagon.

Winning solves all

We are on the right track, and will get there in the not too distant future.

Keep the faith !

I agree with your whole post pretty much. I figured 75/25 Cuse to STJ. But do you really think these ppl traveled for this team? Most are from the area. Cuse grads are all over the city. No question STJ fans sold tickets. I know the ppl behind the basket you mentioned and 3 Cuse fans behind STJ bench too!!!!!

Just let this damn team go away and I hope Monasch stands up and does not schedule them in the future.

You know that won't happen. As Boeheim has indicated they have been playing St.John's and Georgetown for 100 years and intend on keeping us on their schedule. Even though, I don't appreciate the lowly Cuse crowd at the garden I want a chance to pummel these lowlifes.
Jack, why won't it happen? The 100 year thing did not mean dick to them when they decided to leave the BE. Calhoun said BC would never be scheduled as long as he's coach of UConn. and he kept his word. It has to do with integrity. I would think Navy and the other football only schools would deserve a game. They helped save the BE, not destroy it.

I'm disappointed yes but what did you expect? I have a few suggestions....

1) we need a ticket resale site or what not for just st johns fans. I've tried to transfer my tickets to friends when I can't go (I live in Harrisburg PA and keep my season tix so sometimes it just doesn't work out) and therea no possibility. Pathetic! In addition, redmen.com needs a board where we can resell tix to fellow fans.

2) alumni ID cards not just to get discounts and stuff but to make sure tickets are going the right place. Also give a season ticket holder card to curret season ticket holders to reward them. A lot of soccer teams (I'm a Philadelphia Union fan myself but I'm sure the Red Bulls have it) give you points every time you go to a game, buy merch, buy concessions and go to charity events sponsored by the team and the boosters. It's a great way to reward your best supporters but also to track who's buying tix. That's the only way st johns alumni and season ticket holders would be able to secure single game tickets before opposing fans.

3). I don't want to ever schedule those traitors again! Frankly, Pitt and their chancellor Nordberg (sp) need to be sued and he should be ousted (you dont think we like Harrington, you should hear wht Pitt alumni think of him!). Call me crazy but I do want to schedule Syracuse again...once we get real good and they're in the crapper. It'll happen soon! I want to see the look on the faces of all those cuse fans when we kick their a$$ in the garden with Lavin/Dunlap's 40 mins of hell. I mean, I want to see show time dunks that'll end up on sportscaster and make us all feel a little bit better about having to take it up the rear from them these last few years. Once we do that, don't schedule them again. I just want one game like that :)

Man today was frustrating!

Although I had gripes about their fans - chanting when they are up 25, etc, this thread was started becasue it is about our fans.

If you couldn't come to the game today, there were several posts from guys looking for tickets. Sounds like you may have dumped them on stubhub.

I've been coming to games for decades, and this was the very worst example of a visitng team coming in and totally taking over the Garden. When you add the number of season ticket holders who scalped their tickets to the opposition, the net result is some of our season ticket holders (who admittedly are our best fans) out and out suck.   Last year Duke came into the Garden, and these 4 SJU season ticket holders hwo sat behind me weren't there. There were 4 Duke fans instead. I blasted them the next game. When we got to Denver, Iran into a couple of those guys. One of them said, scalping the tickets to Duke paid for this. Seriously man - F' that. When you make one of our home games an away game simply for your personal profit, you suck as a fan.

If I was in a position to do it, I'd record every friggin season ticket seat that had a Syracuse ass (literally and figuratively) in it, and next year those "fans" would be sitting in the 400s at the Garden. Let them bitch then.

I am pretty sure some Redmen.com regulars dumped their tickets on stub hub, so yea this is for you. Shove your friggen opinions up your butts and go post somewhere else - maybe stubhub.

I feel everyone's pain after this game. I think we all know that when you are the #2 team in the country and you have one of the best teams in your school's history, your fans are going to come out in a big way. Even when we had decent teams the Garden was 50/50 because the local Cuse alums are very loyal. A great many STJ fans are the fair weather types.
This season in particular is very difficult for the casual SJ fan. Much of the luster of the recruiting class is long gone.
We start 5 frosh, 3 of whom have no business starting. We have only Gift off the bench (I wrote Stith off in November).
We have a losing record and are not going to post-season. Our head coach is missing.
All these factors pushed the MSG attendance toward the Orange. No surprise.

As for the game:
Syracuse had three HS All-Americans come off the bench and Pointer and Stith were non-factors so we played 5 new players against a possible final four team. Again, no surprise we were down 28 at one point but remove Fab Melo and one other starter and play us again and SJ would have been much much closer in the game because these kids do not quit.
Moe collecting his 4th foul 3 minutes into the 2nd half basically sealed our fate. He did not play an NBA game today against the talented Cuse front line. I hope everyone realizes how much work he needs to do to get to that level after this game.

Just got home from today's game, which ended almost six hours ago and I am still mad as hell! :yell: :furious:

I am furious at several things.

First and foremost, I am furious at our fans. Look, I get Syracuse has a big following in the NYC Metro area and they are ranked #2, so I expected a lot of their fans to come out. But for crying out loud, we couldn't even fill up HALF the Garden with our fans?

And what's with our student sections being out of sync with their chants? If that's intentional, it's stupid. I'd much rather hear the combined voices of 5000 chanting "Let's Go Johnnies!" rather than 2500 voices alternating. The Orange fans certainly had no problem coordinating their stupid chants.

I'm furious at our fans again for selling their tickets to Syracuse fans. If I can't go to a game, and my son can't go in my place, I will NOT sell them online or to anyone who I don't know. I've offered them in the past to fans on this forum, but I will not give them or sell them to a freakin' Orange fan!

I'm furious at the Orange fans. I get that you can root for your team no matter where they play. But to disrespect the St. John's fans by doing their stupid standing (how original!) until Syracuse scores is not only disrespectful, but it's downright inappropriate at an opposing team's arena.

I'm furious at MSG for showcasing Syracuse stuff at their stores. Are we not the "home team?"

I'm furious at the classless Orange players for their acrobatic slam dunks when the game was clearly over.

I'm furious at our guys for letting them get away with that garbage. It seems like Boeheim eventually called off the dogs, but if I'm on that court and one of those players pulls another stunt like that, I'm going at him hard. Real hard, intentional foul or not!

Everywhere I went today after the game I ran into those obnoxious Orange fans. After the game, my wife, my son and his fiance all went to Hill Country Barbecue on West 26th street. The place was full of freakin' Orange fans!

On the train home back to CT, six Orange fans, and one of them exceptionally drunk (what a surprise!) got in my car. Just looking at them made me sick. And angry.

Look, I've been to games where we've been blown out. I've been to games where we've lost tough ones. But this game today really struck a nerve with me. I've never felt this way after a loss. I've never written a post like this where I am this upset. My wife says I'm too passionate about this team. DUH! It's my team because it's my school.

Even she started to tick me off tonight!

I want revenge so bad on this team and their fans.

I think I'm gonna go have myself a glass of wine. Or two. I gotta calm down. :(

Today was the 1st day I was really p!ssed off. Granted we do the stormsaver package but last year our entire section was diehard SJU fans this year it's 6 of us and literally 0 people in our section with about 10 open rows in front of us every game.

Today all the sudden it's a sea of degenerative bumf&ck orange people who married their cousins in front of us. How does that happen ? Freaking BS.

Anyway whatever. This game was bad but I knew it was. Our fans have nothing to be proud of because they were sitting on their fat asses or didn't show up.

The student section did a real good job though today. Keep it up and hopefully everyone else will get in line

Why did The School not sell seats for 5 bucks to all students & provide a FREE BUS to the Garden?

Because Moanasch wanted to make the$ off the Scuse fans that why!

Ed Manetta Stopped the Uconn & Scuse fans by controlling their tix availability back in 1999 & 2000
it can be done.
