The Transfer Portal (in general)

It's probably much worse than we think.  This is what I was saying in the thread where we were discussing the new rule.  And there's no way to prove all the tampering that's going on.  Just look at the SEC, they are killing it on the transfer market.  The SEC is full of coaches that are known cheaters, this portal is like Christmas everyday for them.  And I bet they are saving a ton of cash as well, because some of these mid-major kids that put up good stats they are grabbing are probably just happy to go to a big time school, and don't have a big price tag like 5-stars coming out of high school.

I still don't understand how any hardcore college b-ball fan can like this new rule.  1,000+ in the transfer portal and losing 4-5 players on your roster every year is going to become the new norm.

Now I see why we lost so many guys. Hard to turn down overtures from the likes of Manhattan, High Point, Robert Morris, San Diego, Louisiana and Southern Mississippi. /media/kunena/emoticons/silly.png

ESPN+ did a top 100 this week.  Soriano came in at 96.  Stef Smith was in the "Also receiving votes" list.  No sign of Isaiah Moore, just Charlie.

That's how wide his hands had to be to catch the sack of money they threw at him.

There were 9 Centers ranked above him on the ESPN list.
I haven't seen the list, but I can guess some names above him. Off the top of my head, I would have Tre Mitchell No. 1, but would need to see rest of names to see where I'd put Soriano.

He still has 2 years of eligibility?!

Also, good to see him still playing, he had a nasty injury before coming to SJU.

FWIW, ESPN lists Soriano's as a PF. He ranks as #12 PF  (Kessler is #1. G*town's Tre King # 9).
Joel S is # 20 in the combined  PF/C group.

I was going to text you my ESPN+ login but then remembered it's linked to my Disney+ account and I shudder to think what shows my daughter would think I was watching.  ;)

But seriously, here they are with their overall ranking.  Since the original discussion was about centers I'm going to stick with them.  Apparently there were only 8.  As Chicago mentioned guys like Kessler and Brooks from UNC were not included as they listed them as PFs:

4. Tre Mitchell, 12. Wahab, 26. Myles Johnson, 27. Liam Robbins, MINN, 61. Diong, UNLV, 64. Ballo, Zags, 73, Nysier Brooks, Miami, 85.  Theo, just Theo, 96.  Soriano,

And fwiw, ESPN lists Jalen Pickett # 19 overall, and the 5th best PG in the Portal.

I've never been impressed by Theo, and Brooks always seemed like he should be better than he is, especially since he's pretty old for a college player. I think I'm putting Soriano ahead of both of them, but I guess we'll see what happens. I don't think matching their best seasons will be too much of a struggle.
