The Page Six of RedFans

Gary Cohen, great announcer but a pompous ass lol. Saying that as a Mets fan.
I'm not a Mets fan, but a big baseball fan and listen to most teams broadcasts. I agree with your assessment, he is a good announcer but comes off pompous. I personally prefer Howie Rose.

I like Gary but I am not he walks on water guy. Just me. I grew up with Bob Murphy too.

I also don’t remember the circumstances but Cohen and I think Ed Coleman did some St John’s back in the day. Not sure anymore. Don’t remember what happened.
It' s been many years over 30. Coleman might be one of the last famous people to get a taste of White Chocolate back in the day when we played wfan in a charity game at Alumni Hall

White Chocolate still has open wounds about his first shot an open missed 3 ( airball ) and while recovering in a devestating fashion that missed shot haunted him for the rest of his still living life with the chants of airball.

And he turned to alcohol because of one miss

Well he drank beer before but they lossed that game by a point and White Chocolate never forgave himself for that miss even though he dominated and was second leading scorer. They should have won and Blanco Chocolate should have hit that shot and had hero written also this white ass

I am a Gary and Keith walk on water guy. He always seemed to be favorable to St. John’s to me. Disappointed that he would say that.

this was a great thread to read! Great win

- Reed is a beast. Watching him and Zuby is like watching 2 gladiators

- regarding Sim. He’s been passive offensively over the last month. It coincides w Smith and Kadary taking over. He spends a lot of time floating behind the arc. When it clicks we see him driving and that great pull-up jump shot. I think it’s a natural progression for a soph on a team of seniors and grads. Next year he will shine

- who had Spike Lee court side in their future bets? Unreal

Was it ever explained what was going on when Hurley picked up Scott's sneaker, held it from him for a bit, showed it to the ref, then shook Scott's hand before giving it back? Such a bizarre sequence.
Either:
1. It was some weird basketball style Cinderella story playing out on the court
2. Hurley was paying homage to “It must be the shoes” Nike ad campaign, since Spike Lee was in the audience.

Other than that, I have nothing.

Spike is a clown, was celebrity row around when Rick had the Bomb Squad? Do the Right Thing, I think was out in the summer of 89.

Spike is no stranger to big St. John’s games at the Garden. It’s just so few and far between. He’s no fan, but will show up in the limelight when the mainstream deems it.

Spike rocking the EB jersey at the 1999 Duke game.
I actually vividly remember seeing him at our Big East tournament game in 2003 against Notre Dame

Don't get how anyone can be upset about Spike coming to a game. I love it. Our program has stunk for a very long time. We should be happy about bandwagon people coming back on and creating a buzz around the city.

Guys grow up seeing Spike court side at Knicks games, and they know its an important game if he's at MSG. You know how cool they must be for them to see him there?

I welcome all the Johnny come latelys. We need them.

Some fans want to have it both ways. They want us to have an overwhelming majority of fans in MSG against teams like UConn, but also not have any Johnny come latelys in the crowd. That’s never gonna be able to happen lol.

We'd barely fill Carnesseca by those standards.

Those people don't stay "come latelys" if we continue to be good and they continue to enjoy games + build memories of going to games. It has to start somewhere. Especially for students and young alumni.

If Stephon Marbury decides to choose watching us over a NYK/BOS game that same afternoon, that's amazing. Shows we are a big ticket in town. Was Carl Banks a "Johnny come lately" in the early 80s? Absolutely. But he enjoyed it and is now a converted diehard who can split his fandom with Michigan State.

The guy is really amazing. For his age to be as good as he is and then to maintain the travel schedule he does is just remarkable. He's the best.

72 hours he went from Ann Arbor to Lawrence and then LA. And tomorrow night he will be in Milwaukee for Prov/Marquette.

Guy is such a legend. And he has not missed a beat. His analysis is always spot on.
