The NCAA Tournament Thread

Arizona lost 9 games, NC and Iowa State 8 each; rankings are largely name recognition popularity polls. UConn could lose, no question, but there is them and everyone else. Every team can only play who is in front of them.
Parity accounts for everyone losing more games compared to the “old days”. This has been going on for quite a few years now. Even in the 80’s Nova and Wolfpack won championships with double digit loses.

Thoughts on the games last night:

Watching teams like U Conn, Illinois, Arizona, Alabama and UNC the talent level as compared to St. John's jumps off the screen at you. And that's just the cheerleaders! (You're welcome, Maher). Think it will take at least another year before SJU looks anything like those teams. But Clemson looks more like SJU and they are still going strong so that is reason for optimism.

Watching the lack of execution of Michigan State vs UNC and then Alabama with about a billion idiot plays and missed layups made me wonder whether my frustration with the lack of execution by SJU over the years is unreasonable.

Need Creighton and Marquette to carry the banner tonight. And hoping to add Duke's scalp to the shelf next to UNC. I thought Hubert coached a pretty good game, his star just had a bad game at the wrong time. Felt bad for the kid, he is a very likeable player.

Illinois doesn't guard well though. Iowa State was 11 for 25 in layups/dunks. They beat themselves. Hope I'm wrong, but I think Uconn stomps them.
I think UCONN wins anyway, but how competitive it will be, will probably depend on how well Shannon is shooting the ball early.

He had 29 points last night, but it wasn't a good shooting game for him, especially from the line. But, if he's hot early, then the Illini can stick around for awhile, although I think it will probably be a double-digit margin in the end.

The Big East is 7 and 0. The Acc is 9 and 2. These are the 2 most successful tournament conferences. So your point being the Acc is over rated in relation to the BE but under rated in relation to all other conferences? Ok, I got it.
The NCAA tournament has never been the best indicator of which are the best conferences every year. There are plenty of better metrics which capture the entire season and can prove conference strength.

Agree. Unless you have a powerhouse team like UConn it’s basically a crap shoot in a one and done tournament.

No doubt, and I was attempting to say exactly that, that parity explodes the idea that Arizona, NC and Iowa State being beaten by other teams diminishes or even makes UConn’s or anyone else’s accomplishments easier or whoever wins the NC less impressive.

Congrats to our Bama! Great game. That kid Nelson killed UNC

Bama’s Estrada will skip Final 8 game & now transfer to Pluto State to break world record for schools attended
And , then tryout for Relief Pitcher role with Mets .

There was a Chuck Estrada pitcher back in the day .

I think BE splits tonight w Marquette winning. Tenn. seems much more physical than Creighton and will rattle their PG imo.

You mean like net, Kenpom and pomeroy? Funny sounding names that I have no idea what they are and the selection committee doesn't use. Ncaa's and other head to head are the only way to judge.

What will carrying the banner do for us? Aside from making us feel justified in our outrage and making the committee look silly, it does nothing to prevent the powers that be from giving the bids and money to their favorites again next year.

So you admit you have no clue, and are unwilling to educate yourself on the subject. Cool
