Thaddeus Hall, SG - SOUTH CAROLINA

I spoke to a knowledgeable basketball observer who told me that Mr. Hall has "NBA potential" but he doubts that Hall will meet NCAA academic requirements.

Since the odds are not good that he will qualify for 2012, Laven has to go after another shooter also.

Any idea why an athletic 6'5" PSAL SG who looks like he can actually shoot hasn't gotten more recruiting attention?

I know NYC bball isn't what it was and the PSAL (outside of Lincoln) hasn't exactly churned out a lot of high-D1 players, but still.... why has TH gone so unnoticed? Were there even any mid-majors recruiting him?

Mr. Hall is well known to those that follow NYC high school basketball.

Unfortunately there have been a number of issues, primarily eligibility that have caused college coaches to back off.

I spoke to someone than knows Mr. Hall's situation and he said that he would be shocked if Hall is NCAA eligible next year. The comment was "will Hall go prep school or junior college?".

Strange we are going after a kid with eligibility issues if true, after this years debacle. I hope this isn't a sign we are getting desperate. However with Branch the only guy inked in for next season it seems likely. Would be uber cool if Lavin returned to the sidelines for the BET! I know there's a slim to zero chance it happens, but the kids need him right now and our recruits need to see him on the floor to end the season knowing without a doubt Lavin will be coaching them next season it they sign.

Lots of programs recently offered Thaddeus. Maybe they just want to be on board if somehow he does qualify or they want to be involved for 2013. Maybe even some glimmer of him qualifying this season? Could be several reasons. No reason not to offer him and try to be to the front of the line. Like I said, SJU doesn't have to take him if he isn't going to qualify. I'm sure SJU staff is fully aware. For SJU, this year wasnt as much of a debacle as some make it out to be. SJU had 2 kids not qualify. Amir finally made it on board. All of it was magnified because we had an unwieldy 12 scholarships to fill.

I'm sure Lavin and staff know what they are doing. I am not saying this year was a debacle in terms of output from our current group of players. I mean let's face it we played a 6 man rotation for the last 8-10 games and still finished with 13 wins, 6 in coference. Thats a feat in itself and I am very proud of these kids and agree the future is bright. However in terms of 2 players leaving the team, 3 kids not qualifying (1 of course in Garrett qualifying 2nd semester) Lavin not coaching the team, only 1 recruit signed for next season, it is viewed by recruits in a negative fashion. No matter how you cut it, Lavin needs to be back on the bench instead of saying he will come back for the recruits to fully trust what he is saying. I am not saying he should come back if he can't (due to sidef effects from the surgery or going against doctors advice) but what I am saying is until he comes back it will be hard to lure recruits to Queens to our program.

None of that has to do with SJU offering Thaddeus Hall. Lavin will be back next season as he has said himself.

I belive Lavin as do most STJ fans. However it's much harder for a 17-18 year old kids to believe this when they have other coaches from competing schools offering and tleling them otherwise. All I'm saying is until he is back on the sidleines it will be hard to compete with landing top notch kids.

I'm assuming you're referring to the '12 class when mentioning landing top notch kids. We're still in good position to land kids like Sampson and Obekpa. Quite frankly, by him returning for the conference tournament isn't gonna change much in the minds of the kids we're on in the '12 class. That is just my opinion. I still believe we're gonna land a couple of solid players (along, with some decent players) to sufficiently round out the roster.

He'll be back next season, and I know we're in good position for kids in the '13 and '14 classes. I feel we will be landing top notch kids in both of those classes.

I agree with MJ. What some must realize that if we land Jakarr and Obekpa in addition to Branch, that already becomes arguably a top 8-15 class. Branch was top 50. Espn has Obekpa as #50. Jakarr is easily top 30-40. While the class might not be ranked that way because Branch is a transfer and Jakarr a prep, it is equivalent or better in every way. Still a lot of time for us to have an excellent 2012 class and we only need a few good kids.

And fwiw, I'd take a class with 3 or 4 top 60 kids any. Day than those classes ranked in the top 5 because they had one top recruit. I don't buy into those top rankings for one good player. Harkless and Harrison should be proof that landing consistently high level talent is more important. Neither Harrison nor Harkless were top 25 players, yet both were head and shoulders the best two freshmen in the Big East.
