Syracuse GAME Thread

I will be in the minority I suppose but 16 minutes of great basketball and 24 minutes of well, ugh...doesn't get me charged up. We make a great comeback from a deficit we should probably never have been in and then play clueless on offense for the last 4 minutes to come away with yet another almost. Sorry, it leaves me nothing but disappointed and frustrated. I give credit where it is due and the team made a great comeback but they are far enough along where they should at least maintain the good play until the end, win or lose. The Cuse goes to Fair down the stretch, no question, SJU reverts back to passing around the perimeter and poking and hoping. Sanchez seemed afraid to assert himself down the stretch and Harrison got back to trying to do it by himself. For those who say I am being too negative I apologize but I didn't need another moral victory; I already knew we had talent but I have expectations that talent will translate into something real.

Moral victories? I doubt the NCAA Selection Committee has a measurement for Moral Victories.. The game was there for a Veteran team to take but.... didn't..

If NCAA selection committee is deciding our fate in March because we are on the bubble it's not because this loss. Im an optimist and pissed that we lost, but we should do damage in the Big East

I don't believe anyone in here are for moral victories, Logen.

I believe quite a few posters sense we're gonna be alright the remainder of the season. We seem to be playing better ball from an overall standpoint. We're looking for improvement, and frankly, I'm seeing it.

I'm not worried about resume's yet, too early for that. We will have our chances come conference play. If we played with that aggressive fearless attitude from the start we probably win this game. Obviously we shot ourselves in the foot during the final 2 minutes and that cost us the game. Lets take care of business the next couple of weeks and get rolling into the Xavier game.

BTW, awesome job by the fans today, that place was rocking

Superb recovery in the second half; great effort. Disappointed with Sampson's weak hands. Grab the damn ball and hold on like Harrison and Pointer do. Happy Lavin stuck with just six players during the second half. Had the same problem in first half lacking aggressiveness but came back with great energy.
Have to be impressed with the poise of Jordan and Ennis. Nice defensive effort by Harrison on Cooney.
We're going to enjoy this season.

JK missing both free throws changed the momentum of the game! If you don't hit your FTs at crunch time you lose plain and simple!

The NCAA looks at the schedule. 2 out of 3 losses are to top 4 teams and Psu is still from the big 10.A close loss to the number 2 team in the nation is nothing to be ashamed of, and will look ok to the selection committee. 2 weeks ago I didn't have much faith in this team, but they are beginning to show their potential.Lets take care of business against USF ,who is not a patsy.

Well, I don't sense anything about the rest of the year. Are we playing better? Yes; did we look like an NCAA team in the first 20 and last 3 minutes? Not even remotely. Why did we not press? What about the Cuse would make us abandon the press for virtually the whole game? Ennis? A press is one of the ways you take the ball out of the point guards hand. A press is one way to speed up the game, something the Cuse does not want to do but we do. Frankly, I was shocked we did not press and scramble; outside of Ennis the Cuse does not have another player who can play fast. Anyway, I guess we just disagree, I expected this team to be much, much better, not being a third of the way through the season looking for improvement.

Was at game today and had a lot of fun. Frustrated because I thought we had it up 2 with ball. Sucks we lost but if they play like this we should be tourney bound. 1st half they looked lost but they were very patient and played well in 2nd half. I am shocked at tempo cuse plays at. Slowest I have ever seen from them. Keep it up and St. John's will be fine. Jordan played really well.

And was it loud for St. John's? I was disappointed. Maybe I was in cuse section but sounded 2 to 1 cuse.

Your right about being disappointed. We lose to Penn. St. and the Cuse. We don't have not a one quality win. Right now we are not a NCAA team, and that was the goal. How can you not be disappointed?

5 or 6 missed free throws plus too many forced shots down the stretch did us in this is a team still looking for its identity

Sampson too light in the ass.

Not strong enough yet for the NBA, will be around next year.

Agreed. Not meaning to knock Jakarr or any of our kids, but I don't see anyone from this group bolting for the draft after this season. No question, we have guys who have pro potential – NBA or Europe – but they could all use a little more work at the college level before going pro.

The game may well have turned on the charge which was called a block on Sampson. Beyond that we took a big step forward . Second half defense was the best in 10 years. Players were allowed to play without wondering how soon they would be yanked. Watching Ennis ,Jordan realized he too can play on high level.I now feel we should do fine hereafter
