Syracuse GAME Thread

Love the way these guys fought down the stretch. Gotta tighten the screws a bit, but I'm much happier with the team than I was 2 weeks ago. Hopefully, they remember today and how much it hurts to lose a hard fought game.

BTW. Jordan is who we thought he was. He's gonna have a great year. Sanchez too. Looks a little more confident. Maybe was pressing to live up to the hype, earlier?

Jordan was what I took away from this game the most. If he plays like he did today for the rest of the year we are in good shape

Assuming we beat San Francisco, Youngstown St. and Dartmouth, that makes us 9 - 3 out of conference. I can see this team going 12-6 in conference if we continue to improve. That makes us 21-9 going into the Big East Tournament. So, you figure 23 - 10. That should be enough to get us in the NCAA Tournament.

it's sad that our best offensive play is D'lo leaning into a defender and throwing up a shot

It's sad that you really can say that after how we played in the second half

ok so tell me what the best offensive play is that we have? it's obvious that at the end of the games we want d'lo to have the ball in his hands which makes sense.

Disappointed in the result, but overall sets a pretty good benchmark of where we are. Hung with the No. 2 team in the country to the end.

We saw signs of this group becoming a good, scrappy team that will be fun to watch and will win their share of games. Our vets – notably Harrison and Point – are doing their jobs and we're starting to get a taste of what Jordan will bring.

Should be an interesting year...

Nothing wrong with Lavin's coaching. He's coaching kids who are not ready to put away a big game. We pissed away the Penn. St. game and it looked like that got them ready to finish the same way in this one. I do believe they will get better, and win games like this. I was hoping we wouldn't have to wait until next year.

I'm disappointed. This game was there for the taking. We had all the incentive, all the emotion. Syracuse looked flat for most of the second half. There is no more time and no more patience for moral victories. We played with great passion and effort. You won't see that every game. And threw it all away with a woeful final 5 minutes. Four straight missed free throws. Team ball abandoned in the last 3 minutes. Syracuse was missing free throws begging us to hit a 3 and give them some real pressure to deal with, even with our last possession with 26 seconds left. Then 2 hopeless heaves. The good news is that there is no way, if Sampson and Jordan use their heads, that either will leave after this year.

How did Jordan shoot 9/9 from the line? Him driving the basketball was the best thing we did today. Our ball movement was quality all game. Normally I'd agree with you about our offense but not today. We had the #2 ranked team beat and rattled and just couldn't hit shots or free throws down the stretch. I have no complaints except again we have to be better early in games. This second half comeback thing, while exciting, needs to stop. We should be playing like were down double digits for forty minutes a game

Things I liked today:

1. Jordan showed he needs to be on the Court for heavy minutes.
2. I liked greene on the bench for whole 2nd half. 1 for 9 shooting for phil. ugh.

Things needing work:

1. harrison was 6-20 fg, 1-7 3pt shooting. That's not a game winner.
2. Team shooting was 21-59 for 35%
3. 3pt shooting was 1-17 that's below CYO LEVEL FOR 4TH GRADERS.

TERRIBLE;

1. Free throw shooting in the clutch sucked.cost us the game .
2/Defense unable to make stops at crunch time

We made a potential blow out a game but, you have to finish. moral victory? Nah.

Tough loss but I will focus on the positives:

1) Jordan has arrived. We will be in good hands for the rest of the season
2) Great 2nd half. The GT game and this game showed me that we can make adjustments and stage comebacks
3) The passing is so much better
4) The crowd was loud and (from what I could tell) felt more SJU than Cuse. I was expecting it to be heavily Cuse since they won't be at MSG and instead will be playing road games in those hotbed towns of Clemson SC and Blacksburg, Virginia.

I'm fine with moral victories right now. I'm upset we lost but there are some great takeaways from today that showed me that this team is a NCAA tournament team. I couldn't say that with confidence 3 hours gap, now i can.

Moral victories? I doubt the NCAA Selection Committee has a measurement for Moral Victories.. The game was there for a Veteran team to take but.... didn't..

Syracuse make many teams shoot poorly. We, occasionally, too some poor shots, but overall we did a good job getting decent looks.

BS! Another one of your ways to not give the team much credit. You wonder why I gave you a particular moniker a week ago.

Am I for moral victories? Not at all. I think it stinks that we lost today. But we made this more than "a game." We had Syracuse on their heels, and had several opportunities to win it.

I believe we're gonna be alright going forward.

I'm still a little confused as to why hooper didn't see more playing time. He is the closest thing we have to a 'pure' shooter[/quot

I'm not. Did you not see his porous defense in the short time he was in the game?

Please stop referring to us as a veteran team.

If we play like we've played the past 2 1/2 games, then we're gonna end up being amongst the top 3 teams in the Big East.
