Syracuse Game Thread

A few thoughts:

1. We really don't have a pure PG. Branch is as close to one as we have, but he looks for his shot more than he looks to pass
2. If Sampson is truly a mid-1st round pick this spring, I can't imagine him staying another year. Would you?
3. Harrison's poor attitude/demeanor on the court does not reflect well on our team/school. It bothers me a lot.
4. Greene is not a starting BE player IMO. He should be playing about 10 minutes/game
5. Why does Balamou play at all?
6. We miss GG more than most people would admit
7. I wish Christian Jones would get more PT. I think he has the potential to be helpful in the future.

Jones played one minute and that was enough time for him to not move his feet at all, leaving a Syracuse shooter with nobody within literally 10-15 feet of him. He doesn't play hard and he has slow feet. I don't think this kid will every be anything at a high major. His best bet is to go to a low major and be the SG/SF he wants to be. I don't want to hear the "you can't write off a kid as a freshman," becuase our whole team is comprised of freshmen and sophs. Use the ship to get a kid that wants to compete. I don't care if he's 6'4 as long as he has a nose for the ball and the heart to go and get it.

This was a very frustrating game. We should not be getting blown out like this in year two of the rebuild. I hate Syracuase...JB runs a filthy program, and that is why I had no doubt Southerland would have been rule eligible right before the game. It seems like Syracuse gets a kid eligible right before every game we play. Syracuse is losing Southerland, Triche (FINALLY), and MCW after this season. We SHOULD destroy them next year, but who really knows. These kids do not play hard enough.

How many open looks because kids fail to rotate in time? The only way a zone like this can work is if you have a perfectionist like Dunlap leading the way. Why not move to a 2-3 and let Obekpa patrol the lane like the 2-3 OSNA has run for two years? How many more half-assed closeouts do we have to witness. Zones are all about movement and our kids don't move. Syracuse's zone looked incredible.

Why can't we just change it up and play MAN on certain possessions!

Wondering. Do you think Branch isn't a PG then?

Definitely a PG to me, just not an elite PG. I would love to see him provide quality minutes behind a stud PG.

Question is, do we get one?

If not, I think Branch can do a really good job next year if he stays healthy. I think he is the main reason for our resurgence since the Hoya MSG debacle last month.

Could someone explain to me, why when we are 12, 14, 16 points down with precious time running out on the clock, we decide to roll the ball down court instead of pushing it up? We make too many passes with the time running out like we have a whole half to catch up. Very frustrating to watch.

The clock doesn't start until you touch the ball, henceforth Pointer allowed the ball to roll over halfcourt.

Can anyone figure how we didnt switch to man? How many times were we going to leave CJ and Sutherland wide open....the zone wasn't working....

The key to a good coach is how he adjusts in game situations, especially in basketball. You can lose a game quickly if you don't react.

Well Rico must have been blind folded yesterday then.

If your criteria to bench Jones applied to everyone we would be playing with all walkons. NO ONE on this team busts it all the time on D. Pointer kinda does but constantly getting in foul trouble with stupid reaches and lunges takes even him out of the equation.

You really think effort is a problem with the team?

I'm not sure what Balamou's minutes give us right now. He's active, sure, but i don't see him as a threat. On the bright side yesterday, Obekpa hit his free throw. Also, noticed Obekpa's timing was a bit off with his block attempts yesterday. He'll get to them...

To quote Scripture, shake the dust of your sandals and move on to the next town.

This was pencilled in as a loss. Just win the winnable games. This one was not.

All the games are winnable it is just a question of strategy, some talent and luck

yes I do; I watched marquette last night and the difference in the way they dig in on D and are committed is night and day to the way we play.

37 straight wins for Cuse in the Dome. Longest streak in college. I have a feeling that Georgetown will end it. Just like they ended
the Manley field house streak before the Dome. Nice going away present for the ACC,. Let them start with a new slate.

UConn can shoot with Cuse and they are hanging with them. If they can pull it out vs. Cuse it makes our win against them look so much better...UConn might even end up being ranked.

How does Yukons 9 point loss to frosh led Nova make us look? It's all, and only about how a team does against it's own competition. Right now the NCAA sees a 19 point loss to Cuse and a14 point loss to.Louisville, along of course with our few good wins.
