Syracuse Game Thread

I cannot believe that with the wealth of talent out there at 'Cuse, Duke, UNC, Zags, Ohio, Michigan... whomever; that we, liitle old SJU, could have two NBA-ready guys in back to back years... There was a time when neither Sampson nor Harkless would be drafted. And it is not that long ago.

Question is, without balancing roster, when will we be a top 25 program annually? If we have top guys leave each year, what are we gaining?

syracuse wins with an assist from the ncaa. they fast-tracked southerland because teams like syracuse are their bread and butter. meanwhile, sanchez...who reads and writes in at least two languages...sits and waits.

i'd like to think it'll get better...and if everyone stays, it will. if sampson leaves, next year will be a clone of this one.

If Sampson leaves, you can pretty much write off next season!

Come on Harkless was leaps ahead of him, he isnt leaving.

Outcome expected. Uncompetitive game. Didn't take rocket science to figure this one.

9-9, 10-8 BE record expected.. No Tourney and Sampson likely gone after the season. Will go down as a "decent" season, but with less hope for improvement next year without replacement of Sampson won't help for continued improvement.

Louisville will blow us out too due to match up problems. We'll have no signature wins. Oh we'll.

We are who we are..

Clearly thought he was more important than the game by talking way tooo much. Another guy who fails to let the game breathe.
Clearly he was in love with the Cuse and Boeheim like most of the announcers who call their games.
Definitely does not know what a charge looks like inasmuch as the refs absolutely made the right call when Sir Dom stood his ground on Fair to nullify the dunk. Dakich went on and on about it how there did not seem to be any conatct both during the game, after the game when he was kissing Boeheim's and Fair's asses and thereafter when the other announcer brought it up again.
Will not liste to this guy again.

You already know the answer to your question. We gain the reputation that St. John's will put players in the NBA. That's a valuable recruiting tool. If we hadn't whiffed on the Sanchez/Gift debacle - our results on the court might this season very well be much better. You know that Lavin wants a more well balanced team featuring freshman through seniors, with seniors leading the team. You see that in Syracuse's team today. They have only one for sure NBA player on their team. We have probably have one as well - but they beat us up pretty good today. Their kids know how execute whatever their coaches are teaching them. Having seniors and juniors helps. That's what we are shooting for: Having some NBA talent on the team, and the rest of the guys contributing smartly and efficiently - experience and leadership will help with it. Unfortunately we struck out with Sanchez and Gift this year. So we are weak down-low. Eventually - and if we strike out again this recruiting class - it might be two seasons from now - maybe, finally we'll have a full balanced team. We'll see.

If we have to lose a guy to the NBA every year - so be it. I would sign up for that in a heartbeat. I'm happy with that. That means we are headed the right direction. We just need to give it some time and fill in the pieces around those marquee players.

Dear simplyred

College is all about 3pt shooting. Hit or miss he's got to get shots, especially against the big teams and def when you're down double digits. Team has talent but we need to have an outside threat. Borgault is all we got.

Crush the cards, make a run and lets dance. Go Redmen!

Could someone explain to me, why when we are 12, 14, 16 points down with precious time running out on the clock, we decide to roll the ball down court instead of pushing it up? We make too many passes with the time running out like we have a whole half to catch up. Very frustrating to watch.

We all recognized that Syracuse would be a tough place to win...for the 1st half we played intimidated...but in the 2nd half we demonstrated potential...But, and there always is one, it is difficult to compete with teams like this until we have someone on the floor that senses the importance of the next possession...Case in point, we cut lead to 7 late in game and Greene comes down and fires up, yet another, brick...he just cannot be allowed to operate with a green light outside of 5 feet once we are beyond the 1st 6 minutes of the game...the staff needs to employ an egg timer with him...

Ironic that he had some much to say about D-lo (a lot of it correct) as I believe his reputation, as a coach, was much the same

The game was disappointing but what got me sick was listening to the two commentators on tv. They couldnt stop talking about Cuse and their players. It was almost as if they were being paid by Cuse which they probably were

Bad habits are hard to break. We, as a team, move the ball at a snails pace. The ball touches the hardwood way too much instead of slicing air. When we do pass----reluctantly, it appears the passes are never crisp. Jamal added a new dimension in that area and as our lack of luck would have it, he gets injured at a critical point in the season. It is the year of the snake and we are snake-bitten.

Dave Pasch is a Cuse grad.

Man, snow or no snow, that ugly old place looks near full.

Got to give those upstate NY'ers credit 25K plus and we can't get 10K for UCONN.

Yes...very tough to draw fans en mass when you won the championship in 2005, are currently in the top 10 and compete for a championship and win the Big East nearly every year. I hate when people compare our fanbase to those of title contenders and royalty of college basketball. You might as well ask why the Pirates weren't as hot a ticket as the Phillies in 2007-2009.

Our Communications Dept. needs to turn out some college basketball announcers !

This is very true. The airwaves are full of Cuse grads waxing poetically about their loving Alma mater.

he was also their radio play by play man a few years back. As bad as I found him the color commentator was worse. He played for Indiana but he was bleeding orange. I usualy dont care about announcers but these 2 really got under my skin.

I hated the color guy. Wanted to stick an ice pick in my ears
