STONY BROOK, Tue., Nov. 7, 7p, FS-1

I was at the game on Tuesday and the new kids are all easy to like. But for me it will take a little time. Part of the juice of SJU fandom--for me-- is watching kids develop. I would love to have seen how Posh and Wusu would have blossomed as Pitino-coached seniors. And yes.....I'll miss them getting flowers with their mothers at half-court in March

I was seeing a lot of Ja Morant in his game last night which was a real pleasant surprise for me. As long as he doesn't get into off the court stuff like Ja has lol

wouldn't surprise me if Daniss models some parts of his game after a guy who also went under recruited as a skinny but athletic point guard.
Around same size and had similar haircuts but let’s not get crazy

Good post and point . I’m speculating , of course but , it wouldn’t surprise me if RP put something together for Posh and Wusu’s visits .

Player A - 15.6 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 4.4 APG, 41% FG, 36% 3PT in 33 minutes per game

Player B - 12.7 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 6.3 APG, 46% FG, 30% 3PT in 34 minutes per game

Player A is Daniss Jenkins first year at Iona. Player B is Ja Morant freshman year at Murray st. Both mid major. Ja took a major step forward his sophomore year. Excited to see how Jenkins does in the big East. Though Daniss is not nearly the high flyer that Ja is athletically, they do have similar tendencies running the point

I think Jenkins is older than Morant
Comparing our kids to Allstar NBA players just sets them up to fail.
I know you are a big fan and mean well though

I vote that from here on out we should only compare Jenkins to players who aren't stupid.
So I guess my Kevin Williams comparison is inappropriate as well. Lol
But if Jenkins plays like Morant for a year gets drafted 2nd, wins rookie of the year, makes allstar game, then decides to become a gangsta rapper, sign me up for that.

As I understand it , Jenkins was more the PG at Iona , even though Clayton could play PG too .

I don’t think anyone doubts that RP wanted Clayton here and was disappointed Walter left for Florida. His home state .

But , Rick wanted to have Jenkins too . Pair the 2 of them as his back Court like at Iona .

I think getting Dinkle to be his SG went a long way to forgetting about Clayton but , thete is no doubt Clayton was a blue chipper in the Portal .
They shared the PG duties. Clayton was the vastly superior shooter so naturally he was asked to play off the ball a little more. He has a better handle than Jenkins IMO and the higher ceiling given that he is entering his third year of college vs. Jenkins in his 5th.

Clayton will be the PG for Florida this year.

Jenkins first year at Iona was his 4th year in college though 😂 The WCC was also far superior to the MAAC when he was there with both Gonzaga and BYU as well as St. Mary’s and a few tough teams.

I do see the same Ja similarities you do though. The athleticism, the build, the pick and roll ability, etc. it’s just watered down substantially.

I saw Iona play over 8 games last season and they are very different players imo.
Daniss has NBA point guard size. Clayton is deadly at the free throw line.
Walt is not a vastly superior shooter however.......unless you are referring to the 3 point shot where he excels. Overall FG % is almost identical however. Roughly. 42 to .45 last season.
Compare their first game this season and Daniss had the better game. Hopefully he continues to play well once his backcourt mates regularly includes Dingle and Taylor/Luis.
