STONY BROOK, Tue., Nov. 7, 7p, FS-1

Anyone know if there's a chance we see RJ on Monday? Or is he out until at least Charleston?

Conway will be more useful than you make him out to be. He can hit outside shots. As the team becomes more familiar with the offense, the spacing will continue to improve.

It will give players like Conway some very good looks from the outside.
Just would rather his minutes go to others
Realistically can’t play more than 10

Committee is the only approach. Luis should help a lot there. Davis-Dingle-Taylor-Luis 1-4 at Charleston...run some of that weave they had going tonight. Wilcher come December.
RJ Luis has the potential (emphasis potential) to be our best all around player by early February. Injury may have set him back some.

His midrange game is very impressive and he can handle the ball...like the valued point forward does in the NBA.

I hate comparing but defense was such a mess last season. How nice was it seeing guys defending the dribble and 3 point line?

Hallmark was always defend for 25 seconds and give up an open 3. I’m confident Pitino won’t allow that.

Dingle was special. Missing a few weeks of Pitino practices must set u back big time. Dingle was so smooth.

Interesting comments about Wilcher and the pick and roll from Pitino post game. He’s going to be a special player.

Finally a shout out to Drissa who stuck around, got better, battled and will contribute this season.
I am nitpicking but Dingle had a lot of trouble staying in front of his man last night. It may have been his time off. Thankfully, we do have alot of other good defenders as well.

Haven't read the entire thread, so I assume almost everthing has been covered. I arrived, along with Eric and David Russell(the writer, not the basketball player), about a half hour early. Parked where I always park, on Union Turnpike about a block from the CA entrance. The line to get in to the lot was long and slow moving. I had no problem getting right in to the arena. Anyone who arrived at or near gametime was going to miss tip off. Sat in the upper tier with the 114 crew sans Mike Maher. It was hot as hell until they decided to turn on the fans in the 2nd half. Why they waited so long is beyond me.

As for the team, obviously we're still a work in progress, but seeing a well coached SJU team was such a sight for sore eyes. There was that stretch in the 2nd half where we had 3(I think) bad possessions in a row. Rick called a TO and that quickly put an end to sloppy play. That's what good/great coaches do. Kids completely bought in to what he was telling them.

This is a very talented, hard working, well coached and extremely smart team. After watching last night's game, I'm even more excited about this season then I was before.

Not going to read too much into the first game but a few very early observations that stood out to me watching the players for the first time.
Very impressed with the defense Jenkins and Taylor played with their feet, not their hands, 46 minutes between them and only one foul each. Liked both of their games very much, throwing out Jenkins 1st half TOs as aberrations, he very much settled down.
Ledlum with a quick first step, nose for the ball and 4 assists with no TOs; liked what I saw here also.
Dingle certainly looks like a scorer but essentially no stats outside of points in 20 minutes, is it the rust of not practicing or his MO? I don’t mean that as a bad thing but more as potentially the way Pitino may use him, a microwave off the bench or a more expanded role? WAY TOO EARLY to tell.
Wilcher, who I have seen play, will be fine, just needs minutes when they are available to learn. Looked a little hyper but not out of place. Dunlap looked like he was just trying to fit in, which is absolutely understandable.
Anyway, good start, Michigan is a very tough 2nd game but an excellent gauge as to where the team is to start the season. May seem like blasphemy to some but the outcome will mean little to me, the BE is more than strong enough for quality win opportunities down the road and I believe results there will be the deciding factor in making the tournament. Everyone who knows anything realizes this team is a work in progress, especially with the injuries to Dingle and Luis.
Dingle doesn’t have a high motor. He’s been relied on as a scorer his whole career, so he never had to be that guy. Pitino has 3 months to change that.

You watch Wilcher, Taylor, Alleyne and Jenkins go after everything and compare that to Dingle and it’s a big difference.

That said, his offensive skill is obvious. That pull-up three he hit in secondary transition was the most skilled play of the night and it was effortless for him. Zero wasted movement.

This. Get out of my brain...lol

Was paying attention to him specifically when he was on the floor.

Offense- completely effortless- no wasted movement- whether jumpshot or drive. and can finish with contact- which will be huge. Bucket getter.

Defense- looks a bit lazy- but think that was just in comparison to Jenkins and others...

I would ease up on evaluating how much any one player will contribute this season.

It’s November, and everyone will be much better come January — including Zuby, who seems to be the player most are down on at the moment.

With the lack of depth in the size department, I cannot believe that Pitino offered Zuby a scholarship without seeing the potential of becoming an asset this season.

Also... Noll- would love that type of player coming off the bench for us... and - we couldn't secure enough NIL for Fitzsimmons? or #4? perfect guys to spell Joel for 10mins. cmon Matt lol

Here is what I will say about Noll -- if he hits the same high-level of difficulty shots he did last night on a consistent basis, he is going to have a helluva year in that league. Honestly, there were about 4 or 5, if not more, which I didn't think were good shots or bad defense by our player. Forget about that insane hook shot he threw up and made, but he had all those crazy step-backs off one foot going the other way from pretty far out. I'm not sure those are tools he has in the toolbelt consistently, but if he does he should do well in the conference.

fair point... he hit "tough" shots over what seemed like good D. Stroke looked good though. stats weren't crazy at Cornell.

He was drilling threes during warmups. I wont say he has the best three point shot, but he was nailing them at the practice.

#13 was balling last night. boeheim always had dudes like that playing for him.

SBs Center was also very good, and I would take him in a heart beat.

Respect to Stony Brook. Their kids fought the entire way. They have a chance in their conference.

We were joking around last night about how a prior coach's teams always supposedly peaked in February. I say "supposedly" because his record in Feb didn't support that arguement. But that didn't stop many of our then posters, mostly those who disappeared when said coach was let go, from continuing to argue that point.
