Steve Lavin, Suits, Ties, and Dressing the Part

I guess Bob Knight would have won 2000 games if only he wore a nice suit rather than an old sweater, polo shirt or sweat shirt.

If Steve Lavin won 2000 games no one would care what he wore. But he sucked, so it's a topic of conversation.

Brown tweed suit + tan wool v-neck sweater + navy silk tie + white oxford cloth button down = SJU sartorial splendor.

It took me a while to figure out the lingering hatred towards Lavin as compared to what went on under Norm who was a total Nincompoop.

With Lavin I think it is if you got a chance to nail Candice Swanepoel and she was just "ahight " in the sack. Even though you have had much, much, much worse, you probably wouldn't be able to hide your disappointment.

With Norm it was like when you get a new puppy who shits all over your house. You basically shrug and say well that is what puppies do. The problem of course with this is that after 6 years the dog should stop shitting all over your house. ;)

More like it turned out she had a cock.

See that would be more of how Jarvis tenure ended.
I agree Lavin was a blowhard and a chowder head. Results wise though he was ok compared to what we have experienced most recently.

The difference between Norm and Lavin was that Norm worked hard to the end, while Lavin phoned it in the last 2 years. The day Lavin was fired, one of the ESPN commentators talked about how Lavin was not thought of as a hard worker. And that coming from one of his former co-workers. Norm also had to clean up Jarvis' mess, while Lavin inherited some good will and a seasoned roster. Lavin earned 3 times what Norm ever made. It was money poorly spent. It's like trading in your Honda for a Porsche, and never getting out of second gear.

Results wise he won one more postseason game that your disgusting puppy.

Just get me there, I am a ST John's fan. You start winning one NCAA game a year and you are moving into Louie territory.

Question.

Which would you choose? Head coach Norm Roberts with Lavin's staff and players or head coach Steve Lavin with Norm's staff and players?

Choice number 3

Honestly, based purely on Norm's lack of recognition of how good Hardy and Brownlee were I would take Lavin coaching Norm's last year's team.

Lavin with Chris Casey and Fred Quartlebaum over Norm with Mike Dunlap Gene Keady? Not me.

So back to the topic. Does Desco think Mullin dresses measurably better than Lavin ? Because I really don't care how either dresses and Mullin can wear a thong for all I care if he wins games but honestly the 2 aren't far off in the dress dept

Some people can dress certain ways and it fits depending on their personality. You always felt Lavin was a suit guy because he was hollywood. His choice to continue to dress further down as the years went on felt like more of a sign of how he felt about the job, rather than his personality.

Bob Huggins can wear a sweat suit because you can tell that's fully his personality and it's always been his personality.

Mullin I'll reserve judgement on for the time being except to say that the man's personality seems like he has an itch to be in the gym always and still has a players personality. In some of the videos and photos from Taffner you see him in flip flops and basketball socks, which is a popular look for basketball players around the locker room after practice or in between AAU games, so I think that is more of his personality.

Lavin is a pretty laid back guy. I think you are getting this whole hollywood thing from lavinwood because most people I know on the west coast are pretty laid back. I'm not even sure if Traczok owns a pair of sneakers because he is always in flip flops out there and he's a lawyer

So you can't hold Lavin to a hollywood standard and mullin not when they both come from the west coast. Lavin even more so.

This whole dress thing is so blown out of proportion it's crazy. Except for the big east media dat which I agree with desco on

He grew up in San Francisco in the '60s and '70s, so I'm guessing he's super laid back. He might not wear any clothes at all when he's home.

I can't even remember how he dressed before cancer, but I'd probably just say f*ck it and dress like a bum afterward. Not that I'm accusing him of that, but if that's what happened, I'd do the same in his shoes.

Personally, I think it was on purpose to piss off some people in the administration.

He kind of looked like a dick on media day, but I wasn't personally offended by it.

For someone who's so California chill he certainly spent a lot of time moussing his hair and putting on his make up.

Yes. He was pretty clearly giving the school, the fans, and the alumni the finger.

The difference between Mullin and Lavin is that Mullin thinks it an honor to coach at Saint John's whereas Lavin thought Saint John's lucky to have Lavin as its coach. That's why it doesn't matter how Mullin dresses: because its not a reflection of his attitude or his work ethic. Which Lavin's clown suits certainly were.

Did you want Lavin replaced no matter who was going to replace him?
See I was not at that point.
