100%...fine with me.

Agreed - and not inconsistent with my point, which was not to look at this as some permanent "right sizing" of the staff.

I think Chris signs off in Gempesaw’s hires.:)

Actually Joe Oliva, the AD’s boss would do so
As mentioned here, Chris does not report to the AD, he reports to Joe Oliva, so he would be the one to sign off, AD or no AD.

Gotta laugh. We’re Johnnies fanatics. What, indeed, could go wrong?!?

Which is one of the reasons why only eunuchs or someone who is willing to become one need apply for our AD opening. :eek:hmy:

Or as our president might rephrase it, What couldn't possibly go wrong? :)

My personal take is it is probably best for Rice to stay in his job through the AAU season, not only to show loyalty to his own team, which might be rewarded, but also to be on the court with a number of other great players and in close peer to peer contact with their coaches and advisors. Always assumed that this was the best way this could play out. No matter when Rice arrives, if he does he's an exponential upgrade to Mitch and that's all that matters to me.

Maybe Rice made a promise to the kids to remain coach throughout the summer summer. And this only helps to foster a stronger bond between him and his players.
That cannot be a bad thing.

After end of July recruiting period, apparently Mullin heads home to Cali to return to NY in September. Not sure how that impacts Rice situation, but hope an agreement is evolving. We’ll see.

That's about par for the course and underscores the need to have a coach who is going to be around for these players.

Please be the case.

I don’t know what would prevent SJU from hiring Rice now and making an announcement that he would be joining the team after the aau season ends. But, as Mark said,we are St. John’s.
Do you want to bet? Mullin will be here longer than you.
Not sure if Tom is a 50-something millionaire, but it's far more likely that a 50-something millionaire would continue as a fan far longer than a 50-something millionaire would continue as a coach, especially as coach of a program that he in all honesty didn't have much to do with in the intervening 30 years.

Pretty sure that would be against NCAA rules. I

Jesus Mary Joseph as I muttered through Catholic school (for all reasons!), no bashing involved here.
All we want is for the Staff to be 'right-sized' to maximize player development, recruiting focus, improved team defense, and a dollop of extra energy...for OT!
But then again: We are St. John's!

Makes perfect sense that Chris should go home to spend August with his family after spending July on the road before coming to NYC in September to coach our team to the NCAAs this year. Mitch appears to be on the way out; let's see how things play out in the next month. I am more optimistic than I've been since year Lavin was hired and we had that super recruiting class. Hoping better days ahead!

No doubt that after getting seriously burned for something like $1-million-plus by Slice's firing, I'm sure the university is going take all the time they can to painstakingly go over every sentence, word, and punctuation mark in any contract it offers to Rice to avoid a repeat.

As George W. Bush wisely put it once: "Fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again."
