Matt has his pros and cons for. Pitino will be able to lean on his pros and hide his flaws kind of like what coaches try to do with players.
it bothered me. I was going to report him to you . lol
I think Matt A. is a great choice. Just imagine, with about half of the resources he will have now, Matt recruited some really quality players (see below). We just didn't have a coach to assemble the talent. I think with St. John's new found leverage, Matt A will score us some big time players.

Because NIL is uncharted territory. Whether someone worked at octagon foe 10 or 20 years doesn't matter this is the new wild west. But Matt as a GM type role not only is he at forefront of NIL and his contacts runs way past just octagon but his rolodex with player contacts is insane. he'd actually thrive as a coach right now in this environment. His one weak spot I'd say is player evaluation but Pitino knows exactly what he wants, Matt will run through walls to help Rick get guys Rick wants and matt's contacts are solid he is well liked so in office type riole that just gives him more time to deliver
Pitino would have had this group of players at least in the Sweet 16 if not the Final 4. Factz
I wasn't planning to respond to this thread because I have known Matt for over 20 years and consider him a friend. I am not going to defend him because he does not need me to.
However, I would like to point out the following:
1. St Johns hires Pitino, response here:

3. Pitino begins to put together a roster which goes slowly at first, response here:

I think the overall response has been very much “In Pitino We Trust”; while I very much admire the loyalty to your friend, the associated criticisms and misgivings were earned by him.
Do I have a problem with his return? Not one bit, IMO that is Pitino’s call, he clearly came here to put in the work required to win big and it is completely up to him as to who he wants and needs to accomplish that.
No concerns on Matt A., just not clear to me on what his actual role would be.
If he's potentially not good at player evaluation, and he can't go on road, would he basically recruiting over phone to inquire on interest and talk w/ NIL collectives like Storm Marketing to see if/when they need to write a check?

Also dont discount the relationship Pitino and Matt have built while Matt was representing Wilcher and DIngle.

still can’t believe with all of this talent we finished 8th in the big East that year. Maybe the biggest indictment ever that Mullin was a terrible hireIf it is Matt a count me in. He was the only guy who actually worked on Mullins staff outside of st.jean Matt built those teams st. Jean coached them. Dont blame Matt for Mullins downfalls . Can someone remind me of what he leaked to Zach? Plus if he leaks anything now Rick eould fire him on the spot . Plus Matt was probably frustrated at that time
I think it's safe to say a lot of staffs gives reporters some inside access. It can be smart business at times
Very true, it is also safe to say that sometimes those actions can be very much behind the back, self serving actions. Both are strategic, but one has a team aspect, the other individual.
Any truth to the rumor that Matt now uses burner phones and has blocked Zach’s number as an added layer of protection?
