I was very down when we gave up the 5 points in about 10 seconds to go from down 7, to down 12. Felt that any momentum we had gained from a recent run had been lost. Good job by the guys coming back.
Free throws were better (until the end), and Gift's new foul shooting stroke is highly unorthodox, but effective.
Rebounding is an obvious weakness, but so is point guard, and halfcourt offense. It seems like if we don't get steals and runouts, our offense stalls.
I'm not advocating for the termination of the guy doing the 35-second clock, but man did he screw up royally last night in the middle of the second half, by resetting at 1 second after a shot did not hit the rim (it actually missed the rim at about 3 seconds). Fortunatly, the refs (who were lousy early, but later adjusted) were on top of things, and got it right. First time that overhead screen came in handy for the fans..
One (pointless) observation: I don't think Len Elmore wants to do a game at CA again. With about a minute to go, during a stop in the action, he actually took off from press row, and did his anaylsis from the second row of the stands, after some people had left. I guess his 6'-8' or so frame could not handle the tight quaters of press row. Can't really blame him.
One thing about crowds: The 7pm weeknight start at CA has to go. I know these 2 games were national TV, and we were at their mercey, but it's just too hard for people to get there on time for that, especially if they work in Manhattan (I have to take a half-hour's leave everytime just to make sure I do it). Make it 7:30 or 8:00, and while the crowd's might not be bigger in total, more people will get there on time.
