St. John's-Lehigh Game Thread

Great comeback by the kids.

Nice to see a W w Lavin back on the bench.

Sir Dom gets his hands on so many passes.

Gift didn't miss!

Huge 3 ball by Mo!

First, so good to see Coach Lavin back on the sidelines. Second, gotta love the tenacity and never-give-up spirit of this young team. And third, thank God (no pun intended) that we have GG: great hands, quick feet, no over-dribbling (and whenever possible, no dribbling at all), no 18-foot jump-shot attempts, no goal tends, makes his free throws, and has a sense of where his teammates are. Where would this team be without him?

it was great to see Steve Lavin where he belongs - on the sidelines. However St. John's needs to understand that they can't come back from huge deficits all the time. that is not going to happen against arizona or when bigeast play starts. they need to rebound better too. nevertheless it was a great comeback.

It's obvious we need to rebound better, but lets be honest, rebounding is what it is. We aren't going to win many battles on the boards. It will be a liability all year most likely.

Lehigh misses one-and-one. SJU shooting FTs

MY opinion was heard. He went to man to man ,used the talent and pulled it out. It is going to be a long hard season.
It we get help in Dec it will make big difference. They should shoot100 foul shoots each every day But nice comeback and termination. They have heart lets give them credit Zona next

UMBC on Sunday.

im happy they won but this is going to be a long season. as we all know they are going to get killed on the boards free throw shooting is horrible.rotation on the three defense bad but as the season progress should get better. now the good mo harkless looks real good god gift good been a little disapointed with harrison thought he would be a great shooter have not seen it yet. okay im out go redstorm

Harrison is tough, defends well, rebounds well for a G ,but has not shown the outside shot he was known for. Hopefully as the seoson progresses he will improve. Im glad we recruited Woods, we need another outside threat.

The defense looks bad in so many spot giving up the open threes because these kids are still learning how to play the match up zone. The same thing happened with last years team early in the season which is why they lost to Fordham. They will get better as the season goes on.

The lack of height and the short bench are the major concerns. We really need Pelle and Garrett in December.

Lindsey must still prove that he can knock down a three or they will lay off hime in a zone D and take the drive away from him. Top teams will make him shoot it.

Harrison will start to knock down threes as he gets more comfortable in the offense the same way Hardy did last year. Hardy was cold early also until he got comfortable in the offense. You can see the shot is there.

Love Pointers defense and GG and Harkless will be phenomenal. They must hit their FT's at the end of these games especially when it's close. I think that will come with experience also.

All in all a good two games. Rock on Redstorm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just got back. another great comeback. in years past we would of lost this game by 10. weakside rebounding is atrocious. freethrow shooting is going to bite us in the future, but freshmen never hit them it seems. great to see coach roaming the sidelines. we need more people to show up, and less obnoxious lehigh fans. who do they think they are , vanderbilt?  all in all, solid win.

Congrats to coach Lavin and team. Would like to see Sir Dominic Pointer start, especially since we need rebounding and his excellent defense. Take Stith out of the starting lineup.
With 32.9 seconds remaining in the game Lindsey should have given up the ball to Harrison, a much better foul shooter. Lindsey held the ball waiting for the foul, while Harrison seemed upset.
Is this kid God's Gift for real? Another great performance by the junior. Have to wonder why all the Division 1 teams didn't go after this guy.

Back from the game and just 2 things I want to mention. Actually 3

#1 AWESOME to see Coach back on the sidelines. Absolutely awesome

#2 God's Gift has some real good moves and what hands. Catches everything

#3 So far every game there is some point where Pointer wows me on defense. Today he did it right at the end of the game when we really needed it

And why can't we come back against better competition. Afterall, Lehigh has an excellent team, should do good in the Patriot League.

Nuri got called for a foul with a guy to the hoop when it looked like he had his back to him and I don't even think he touched the guy

Good win. The dfense looked atrocious for much of the game, but you can easily tell it's for lack of understanding by these young guys in how to play the zone. They have a lot to learn. They will in time. Rebounding and FT shooting will also get better. We we edged in boards but not killed, and Lehigh was very active on the glass.

Overall I thought this was a very good test. We have a ton of work to put in, but the raw materials are there. These kids really charge back and have the offensive ability to win games. Sure we'll have struggles at times, but I like where this team is going.

We really need Garrett for depth. He can't arrive soon enough.

Great to see Lavin out there. He looked uncomfortable, nervous and then finally...at home to be doing what he should be doing. He belongs at the helm. Great to have him back.

Right now, the only stat that really matters is 2-0. The rest of the stats will improve as the players do.

All the mistakes we made these last 2 games, which have been many, are all correctable and that is the part I love. We all have seen flashes of what this group could some day do but its even better to see all the weaknesses that can be corrected and eventually made into strengths. Best part about tonight is we had our general back and pulled out a win for him. Cant help but love the guy.

i cant believe the people who said the game was over mid 2nd half.... no faith in the team or staff... but yet praise them when they win.. how bout you support throughout the game.

Honestly, the way the game was going at that point, I did not see a way we could win that game. We were not playing good D and our offense was stagnant. Every time we would score, we would score we'd give up a 3 at the other end.

I will happily eat crow after predicting that the game was over. I did not think our team was capable of persevering down 14 halfway through the second half, but they did and I am proud of them.

i thought nothing was going our way...that it was pretty much a bad loss to a patriot league team. i love that we came back in the clutch the free throws at the end were brutal. we could have left lehigh back in the game. we were outrebounded again.

this game was tough to watch. a win is a win.

It really was so good to see Lavin on the bench. When he came out he got a warm round of applause and a standing ovation.

I was one of those who thought the game was over at the beginning of the second half. They just weren't missing and getting every freakin' rebound. So I was thrilled to eat crow at the end of the game.

What this team is showing me is that they have the fortitude and the ability to come back. And that is a nice feeling to have about your team.

God'sgift is getting better and better by the minute. That also is so nice to see!
