St. John's/Gtown game thread

I'm hearing 10-11K for tomorrow.

Sounds dead-on. I'd bet my money on at least 10k maybe 1 or 2k more. Pretty big game, nationally televised on ESPN2, old rivals, G'Town ranked, MSG, etc. it's not like last year...we legitimately have a chance to beat them this time and that will bring more SJ fans out. Really, really hoping we at least split G'Town/ND. For some reason we always tend to play well vs. ND and overwhelm them, plus G'Town is not nearly as powerful as past years. This team needs to string wins together so badly, or we will hover around .500 all year with an already weak OOC schedule that banged us up. It's do or die time.

I know it won't happen with our terrible offense, but how nice would it be to watch an easy game for once? Instead of coming down to the last few possessions almost every game, it would help lower our collective blood pressure with a nice 15-20 pt win consistently dominating most of the game. We need one of those "no doubt about it" wins. I realize this sounds nuts, and it is. Just dreaming of a non-cardiac game for once.

Could be a snoozer. Highlight may be John Minko, doing radio, nodding off like his boss Francesa.

Many Georgetown alum will still come to the Garden (as do some of us StJ alums) in sport coat/tie/ stripped shirt/ and grey trousers in the tradition of Old Yankee Stadium or the 51st Garden. It goes something like this, when you are in the greatest city in the world and in most famous arena or hall with the best playing the best, you dress for it like it was the Met or Carnegie Hall. It wont be hard this time as the game lets out in time for late lunch or early cocktails at one of the better hotels or restaurants.
It's a soft year for both teams but it's still the Garden and it's still NYC and it's still St. Johns vs Georgetown. There was never anything better in sports.
During the early"80's hey-days of the Big East one fun StJ booster sold buttons before one of these games with the very edgey legend "Your mother's a Hoya". I still laugh at that one; Georgetown returned the favor dozens of times with super creative, sportsman like, needles toward us. Their focus usually was their alleged academic superiority.
Enjoy the day and the real fun of college athletics in it's best venue.

Off Topic Question:

A buddy of mine offered me his Madison Club tickets instead of my usual nosebleeds for the Gtwon game. What's the deal with the Madison Club? Is it any good?

Thanks.

We cant get fans to sit in nosebleeds.
I doubt our fans know about the Madison Club :)

Sounds like a place where we can find some strippers. Nice !!

From ESPN Insider Weekend game predictions

Georgetown Hoyas at St. John's Red Storm
Projected point spread: Near pick 'em
The Red Storm let a trio of winnable games get away from them in the past few weeks, losing in overtime at Villanova, by a single bucket at home to Rutgers and by seven at home to UNC Asheville (blowing a 12-point lead with less than 12 minutes to play). It was a similar story last season, when the frosh-laden Red Storm lost five times by seven points or fewer.

This season's team is still a very young squad, as the top 10 scorers in coach Steve Lavin's rotation are either freshmen or sophomores. Right now this team is executing much better on the defensive end of the court than it is on offense.

Georgetown blasted St. John's in both meetings last season, winning by 20 and 10. But John Thompson III's Princeton offense has been completely shut down in the past two games, as the Hoyas failed to reach 50 points in losses to Marquette and Pitt. The Hoyas were held to 37 points earlier this season in a defensive struggle against Tennessee -- and won the game. Look for another low-scoring struggle here in a game that should stay well under the total.
The pick: Take the under

So far This year's 3 conference results are eerily similar to equivalent games we played last year:

Last year we beat Cincinnati on the road by 2 and lost to Villanova in overtime in a game we could have easily won. Also we were narrowly beaten by Rutger's by 3

This year we beat Cincinnati on the road by 1 and lost to Villanova in overtime in a game we could have easily won.
Also we were narrowly beaten by Rutger's by 2.

Hopefully we break this pattern of duplicating games from last season on Saturday. Last year's 20 point blow out loss at home to Georgetown was tough to take (we also got beat by ten to them down in DC). We need to step up and bring maximum energy for forty minutes in order come out with a victory. An up and down effort will not suffice.

Heading to the game with the wife and kidos today from Philly. It feels a little odd setting an alarm to go to a college hoops game.

After that we hang around the city, drop the kids off with the in laws and head to Glengary Glen Ross. Should be fun day (and an expensive one!)

Final Score today...we win 66-61

Enjoy the game everyone!

we can win this game today. as usual Gtown is way overrated. Jt3 is the most overrated coach in college hoops. even Lavin should be able to outcoach him. i think if we can get to 60 points the game is ours. we need a good scoring 1st half and maybe get up on them by 10 and Gtown will fall apart. Sampsons got to get some points early and stay out of foul trouble
