St. John's/Gtown game thread

Do I think Harrison and Sampson will go pro? After the last couple of games for their sake and since we have zero recruits in 2013, our sake too, they better stay.

Let's end this silly talk once and for all. At this point, neiher Harrison nor Sampson are NBA players. If they were, we wouldn't have the results we have so far, and both would be go to players, the type that is money in the bank with the ball in their hands. Guards had better be exceptional physically in size or speed. Harrison is not. If they aren't exceptionally fast, or tall, they had better have an exceptional skillset. Even then they will be competing against a zillion very good guys - they literally are a dime a dozen.

Sampson is not HArkness. He is our best recruit, and has shown flashes, but in no way is dominant in the paint the way Harkness was. I do like his upside, as I do Harrisons.
I agree that is why I said they better stay

Maybe it’s just me, but everything I’ve seen from the coaching staff this year has scared the shit out of me.

If I were a coach and looked up to see a half full Garden, 40% of them Gtown, the lack of local fans who come to games and instead post here would scare the shit out of me.

I couldn't tell who was there. Gtown fans were in their usual coma. Them and ND fans are by the quietest out there. And it had nothing to do with the game. They are always comatose. Very respectable actually. Beats the trash from CT and upstate NY.

Give fans and alumni a reason to pack the Garden.

Don't talk the talk and feed us nonsense but throw such an unprepared squad out there and have expectations of people showing up.

SJU fans have been burned way too many times before.

I guess it's a pet peeve, but you tend to spell Moe's name incorrectly. It's Harkless.

This is a great point to remember that Harkless was not only our MVP last season, but the BE Rookie of the year. Harrison might have averaged more pts- but Harkless was our go-to guy, our most versatile player. 15th pick of the NBA. It was going to to be a tough task to expect Sampson to replace him.

If everyone returns, with adding a couple new bodies, we should be in decent shape and a possible tourney team. If we still experience defeats like this and performances like this next year- then we have a problem.

Players declare for the NBA, transfer to different schools, etc every single year.

The product we had on the floor had absolutely nothing to do with Moe Harkless. Last year is over and done with.

You have players, new or returning, you coach them up and get them ready to play and best maximize their abilities.

Enough excuses and looking back at last year and 2010.

Come on guys, today wasn't that bad. There were some very positive things that came out of the game today;

1 - The Dance Team

2 - "Stare Man" from the Pep Band

3 - Johnny Franco in the house

Just got back from the game. The wife and I decided to stay and catch the women's game and then we went out to eat once we got back in town here.

I will say that today's game was, without a doubt, the most frustrating, agonizing, disappointing loss I have ever seen live. I'm sure there have been worse losses, but not that I've seen live. And no need to rehash what's already been said about today.

For me, the highlight of the day was watching the women play. It was very satisfying watching a St. John's basketball team that can run plays, make their shots, hit three-pointers and make their free throws. Oh, and also play defense and rebound.

I can only hope that our men's team gets it's act together. Who knows? We may be gelling just in time for the BE Tournament!

One can hope. Can't one?

SJU hasn't been a legitimate college basketball threat since 2000. And after today's performance, do you really think fans are going to want to waste time and money on this program?

People go to games to enjoy themselves. Not to see their team down 33-10 at the 9 minute mark of the 1st half.

At the risk of derision, I'll put on the smiley face and point out that there are a few actual positive things to note with this team:

4. Obekpa's ability to influence shots around the basket. Yup, I see the holes in his game right now, but he's a raw freshman that is clearly getting in the heads of more seasoned Big East players. And doing it without much help on the defensive end. We get to watch this for three more years, possibly when he has more help back there.

5. Pointer showing a lot of grit at both ends in a tough game. We have that to look forward to for another couple of years.

6. Branch showing some hints of being a real PG. Again, he's effectively on the tail end of his freshman season, so there is room for growth and improvement.

7. Harrison and Sampson didn't show much today, but you can't question their talent. And I don't think we have to worry about any early departures.

Don't get me wrong. I was as disappointed watching that display today too. With a few hours distance, I'm choosing to remain optimistic about how our talent can develop over the next couple of years.

That will be the true test of Lavin and his staff.

Driving into city costs money.
Taking the train in costs money.
Watching people sit in front of you and know they paid less.

Yeah I don't think I'm going to be running into the city especially on weeknights for games.

Yea, you will. You're too big a fan, and too diehard. You'll get up tomorrow, and it willbe a new day.

You know, I share your frustration. I had one of my kids with me today. We tend to rotate games, where I take one of three, just me and one of them. for a game of special interest we buy additional. One every few years, my wife even comes along. Sometimes we go to the pregame. I get to spend some really great family time with them usually one on one. The team will get better, and over the years there have been some epic games that were worth an entire season ticket. Just two years ago there were a slew of them.

Enjoy the team fro what it is. Bring a friend or family member, and even if the game sucks (like today) you catch up and enjoy yourself anyways.

Already gave up tickets for Tuesday. I'll see you at the next weekend game. Not worth the aggravation it will cause during the week after a long day of work.

Oops. mental error. The 62 Mets (before my time) had a player Tim Harkness, and Harkness is a more common name than Harkless. I won't make that mistake again. Thanks for correcting me. I'm usually anal retentive on spelling.

I have to disagree with the dance team.

Their first routine not only were their outfits not showing enough skin but it made them look pregnant in georgetown colors no less and their 2nd routine didn't show enough skin either
