St. John's 10 best all time NBA players

We frequently talk about our best all time players, but on that list there are always guys who didn't do very well in the pros. For example, I believe Sonny Dove is a Legend player for SJU, but played only briefly in the NBA. Some players who had moderate college success at SJU made solid pros. It might be fun to come up with an All-SJU NBA team. Some that come to mind that are obvious:

Chris Mullin
Mark Jackson
Dick McGuire
Jayson WIlliams
Billy Paultz
Kevin Loughery

Still working on first cup of coffee... help me out.

Leroy Ellis is another. How would a list of players with OK or successful MBL careers compare? Viola, Franco, Bearnarth. All pitchers. I am sure there are others.

Forgot George Johnson, who had an 8 year career, mostly as a sub. I am thinking there may be better all-around NBA careers from St. John's, which is why I'd exclude Wennington from this list.

UGGH. Just checking. We've only had 10 guys who played at least 500 NBA games. Wonder how that compares to storied programs.

Wennington had I believe a 13 year NBA career and 3 rings - good enough for me.

720 games, 88 starts, 14 minutes per game wasn't what I was thinking of as an all time st. john's NBA player. Really thinking along the lines of an impact player, and looking at the list, I really don't think we have had even 10.

not good

How about:

Starting team

Artest F
Mullin F
Paultz C
Loughery G
M. Jackson G

Bench:

Leroy Ellis
Max Zaslofsky
Dick McGuire
Jayson WIlliams
Malik Sealy
George Johnson
Bill Wennington

Of the guys I've seen play, and not taking in to account NBA success/failure:

First Team:
Mullin
Sealy
Berry(Center)
Jackson
Hatten

Second Team:
George Johnson
Artest
Jayson Williams
Boo
Reggie Carter

Third Team:
David Russell
Mel Davis
Wennington
Postell
Barkley

Would have liked to put Hardy on third team(over Postell) but he only did it for one year. Tough choice for third team center. Werdann, Zendon and Paultz all merited consideration. Probably forgetting a few guys

Just re-read title of thread. Completely disregard last post. That's what I get for trying to work and post at same time :)

I guess everyone forgot about the greatest player in St. John's history.

You know, the one who averaged 14 and 5 over three years in the NBA, including 16ppg and 17ppg in each of his first two seasons.

Tony Jackson

Your post reminded me that John Warren also played about that long in the NBA. Also, I know he didn't play in the NBA, and I never saw him play, but from what some of the older alums have recalled, Tony Jackson would have made his mark, had the gambling cloud not hung over him.

Can't handle the Truth?

Walter Berry. Know it was not for long but for one playoff series vs the Lakers in averaged about 27 pts.
