St. John’s (2020-21)

Zach & would be fun;

Iona has nothing scheduled between Dec. 5 and 11. St. John's just lost its home game on the 8th. Hmmm. #sjubb #icmbb

I’d rather see us schedule a higher ranked opponent for our SOS. I also have no desire to give a cheater like Pitino any help.

Because playing us would be a boon to their program?

So St. John's has now lost home games on Dec. 6 against Sacred Heart and Dec. 8 against Fordham. Had already been working to find a replacement for Sacred Heart. Now Johnnies could look for one on the 8th as well.

Could be blessing in disguise if we get some major teams in those spots. I'd rather see us have a shot at beating Notre Dame and the like than playing cupcakes like Sacred Heart that don't tell you much.

Matt Norlander:

St John's officially moved this morning to cancel its game at Texas Tech on Thursday, and in doing this, the plan now is to have St. John's play BYU here at Mohegan Sun on Thursday instead.

So that day in the Legends would be:

UConn vs. USC
St. John's vs. BYU

St. John’s is currently residing here in Bubbleville. (Did I actually just type that.) It plays tonight at 6 p.m. vs. Boston College. Clearly would rather just pull a Nova and stick around and get another game in vs. flying to play at Texas Tech.

Very smart Mike Cragg

Basically every game this season is now a glorified scrimmage. Teams will have little prep time for opponents they pickup to fill the gaps.

Interesting...don't really understand it since we will need to board planes anyway for conference play soon. One less P5 opponent now only hurts OOC more. BYU is good, but not P5. I'll yield to doctors if they think this is safer, just curious why that would be the case.

If you could limit exposure by not traveling to a breakout area like Texas, you do it

Is Texas much worse than say Indiana, Rhode Island, Ohio, etc.? Not asking in a sarcastic way...just curious.

Texas is currently second behind Illinois in new cases over the last week. Lubbock county is the third highest county increase behind Harris county

Texas Tech game is canceled, possible game vs BYU on Wednesday @mohegan sun. SJU felt too risky to travel to Lubbock due to increasing covid cases.

Press release

QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 30, 2020) – The St. John’s men’s basketball game against Texas Tech, which was scheduled to be played Thursday as part of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle, has been canceled due to COVID-19 risks. Out of concern for its student-athletes, coaches and staff members’ health and safety, St. John’s University has decided to postpone travel to Lubbock, Texas.

“St. John’s top priority is to best ensure ways to minimize risks associated with this global pandemic for both our University community and public health. The University’s COVID-19 management team in consultation with local health experts came to this decision. In the end and with profound disappointment, the gravity of the concerns outweighed the excitement and opportunity to play this game,” – St. John’s University statement.

“We absolutely agree with our University’s decision,” said Director of Athletics Mike Cragg. “The decisions made by St. John’s since the outset of the pandemic have resulted in creating one of the safest and healthiest college environments in the country this past Fall. Our student-athletes and staff remain excited and we will continue forward.”

I don’t know what class schedules look like but we should try to get ASU to stay in the bubble and Uconn, Seton Hall, BYU and BC should get some games scheduled. Call up anyone else in the tri-state that can join in.
