St. John’s (2020-21)
I don’t know if anyone posted this already. Zach Braziller wrote a nice piece on Isaiah Moore a few days ago. However, he seemed to indicate Vince Cole has a knee injury. Before I start any fake rumors does anyone have any info? Maybe I am misreading because he loves Moore but doesn’t seem as high on Cole?

https://nypost.com/2020/11/11/isaih-moore-stealing-the-show-as-st-johns-preps-for-season/
I think it was announced that cole was out a few weeks with an injury. he just started practicing again recently. He is probably way behind alot of the guys and will take some time to get back in the groove.
Cole had a bruised knee that kept him out for two weeks or so. He's been back practicing for almost two weeks.
Thanks. I heard so many good things about Cole. Maybe he’s just getting back up to speed when Zach saw him.

I am getting really psyched for this SJU basketball season. However, I feel bad for the players who will not be able to display their skills before large home crowds and enjoy the crowd reaction to their play. Home crowds can really spur on energetic play and comeback wins. I’ll also miss being a spectator at those wins.

We're definitely going to have a lot of possible lineups to run out there. I bet we see 5 or 6 different lineups before they settle on something. I'm really excited about the potential depth on this team.

Zach's encouraging words on Moore are really exciting to read but I'm going to need to see it first. He was convinced Keita was a stud a couple of years ago. I remember reading about how Keita was a beast in practice and a starter from Day 1. It's gotten to the point with SJU big men (although it seems like Moore may play a few positions?) where we could get the #1 big man in the country and I wouldn't fully celebrate until he produced in games. I don't mean that as a knock on Zach whose coverage I appreciate and respect it's just been such a sore spot for us. Not judging though. I thought Steere was going to be a home run and he contributed less than Keita so...

Luckily with the addition of a solid grad transfer like Toro and the continued development of Earlington and Roberts, I'm a little less worried about us getting bullied like in the past. This team seems to be a little stronger all over the court than we've recently seen.

Really looking forward to seeing Vince "King" Cole play. Hope he's 100% by opening day.

Any talk on who our mystery opponent will be on opening day?

Yep, sounds like we evet hear is hype. Hooper is the next kerr/Paxton lol. Oh yeah Lovett is going to be great, he hardly played. So yes, after so many disappointments you don't go by word of mouth, you see it for yourself. Exactly like I'm doing.

LoVett was good when he actually played.

That really sucked I thought we could’ve made the tournament if he would have came back at some point that year.

No doubt, but he wasn't the impact player that some was hoping for.

My favorite St. John’s “misplaced hype” player was Orlando Sanchez, who apparently convinced coaches sitting in our practices that he could start on NBA teams. That is uhh... not what we got

Hilarious I wonder what the heck he did that gave them that impression.

Because you guys insist on lending credence to comments about players posters have never seen play. Because many whose opinions get that credence here watch a mixtape and think they can accurately rate and judge a player. I know some feel it makes for a less boring board but I prefer to label it ignorance is bliss.
I mean let’s face it, Anderson inherited a program in a shambles, too late in 2019 to do anything but scramble for players, and has put one team on the court but is already being discussed as a recruiting failure. And being compared unfavorably on that front to two coaching failures who by and large put highly rated, underachieving, dysfunctional teams on the court.
Meanwhile people like JPM and Happy, who obviously know more than a thing or two about the game, are largely dismissed when discussing Pinzon and Traore in very positive terms. Happy in fact posted he thinks Pinzon is in the same class of player as Curbelo, which is high praise indeed. JPM described both as winners and isn’t that what we all want, or is it really just about rating stars?

We are placing credence in the scouts that rate the recruits, assuming a 5=star recruit is better then a 3 star recruit. But at the risk of being redundant, character matters also. That doesn’t mean we should get a high character 2 star recruit. Also when recruiting you have to put together a team and the parts have to fit together.
