St. Joe's game

...and Kentucky loses to Robert Morris in the first round!!

And the Robert Morris fans rush the court...wtf?
No problem with them rushing the court, although it is a vastly different team they beat the national champion who has a great basketball history and gets the best players in the country, When is Robert Morris ever going to get a bigger win than that?

Was at the game. Grea fun and a great win. Worth the drive. Congrats to Steve and the team!!

Kudos to a great fan! Were you behind the basket at the end of the game?

Many thanks for the kind words. I was siting 4 rows behind the St. John's bench.

Did you find your way onto the court to celebrate with the team? LOL

Enjoy the win, and be safe.

Looks like we get VA. They beat Duke a few games back and only lost by 4 on the road to Miami in Feb. Tough assignment for St John's. Road game too.

The ending was fantastic! Hope you gave words of encouragement to Felix. We will need him against Virginia.

Just went back and read some of the posts from when we were getting beat early on, and all I can say is, some of you so called fans showed your true colors tonight. You have to support the team until it is over and that is why me and plenty others are smiling ear to ear after this win and others that are kicking themselves for switching to the food channel. On to Virginia.

I want everyone to up my Kharma right now. We jsut went ahead.
+1 from me

you're the best. I was going to PM you to drive down to the game.

I wish I went. Couldn't get out of a meeting after work

We could have been on line at Genos or Pats right now.
or eat at both :)

I usually eat at both Provolone with at Pat 's and Wiz without at Gino"s.
Great win, team and Lavin really enjoyed it. Did you see the celebration? Lavin jumped for the moon after the shot went in.

I loved watching every second of it. They just knocked off the reigning NCAA champions, and became the first team in 2 seasons to end Kentucky's season. It's a huge win for their program and their students. Even in the NIT, Kentucky still has a talent laden roster, and still is KENTUCKY. This is what distinguishes college basketball from the pros, where students are so heavily invessted in their teams emtionally, that elation follows after a signature win. Congrats to Robert Morris, and for the students, well done!

Nice quotes from Lavin at the end of the game, especially remembering his dad, obviously heavy on his mind. "Out of the mud comes a lotus", his dad always told him.

There is not truth to the rumor that one of our fans at courtside were yelling, "Suck it up, Steve!", as Lavin remembered his dad, while another dissescted the interview and yelled, "It's not REST IN PEACE, Steve. It's MAY HE rest in peace." Just sayin.

Jack, couldn't agree more. Here is my post, #63125, with about 10 minutes to go, as a bunch of our "fans" took down our guys, post after post.

"I dont know what's worse, just watching the game, or watching the game and reading these posts. I think I'm done with this thread and will root for a good run instead. It may be a long shot but not as hopeless as the miserable negative posts here. "

I'm kidding about this, but I feel like I gave the team good kharma, and got a few kharma points back of my own. One of the great signature wins in our season. This is why you play the NIT, something to build on for next year. Not time to put the balls away, and I know for you and for me, we aren't ready to end the season just yet.

Think of it. Five games since a suspension that could have been reason for the team to fold, and we've played pretty well in 3 of them.

Give Lavin credit, he benced a few guys for being late to the pregame meal, even being short handed. Yes, you can build character as you build a program.

Stupid hurtful remarks

What a night!!! A great win, a cheesesteak from Pat's, and playing craps down in AC. Good times. :cheer:

anyone else feel weird looking at SJU plastered all over the court. THE HAWK IS DEAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder what St. Joe's thinks when they see St. John's referred to as "SJU" and St. Joe's as "JOES" in the ESPN box score?

Really nice win, looked like a ballclub down the stretch. One of their better defensive efforts.

Yeah. The biggest thing I took out of the ending is neither he or the kids have given up.

That game meant something to them and maybe it's not the ncaa's but that game meant something to me as a fan also

Nice win ( thank you Dom). Almost knocked over a table at the bar I was at when Dom's shot went in , whew. Just a thought. While things did end up well for us, I just thought that coach should have called a time out between Ron Roberts first and second free throw to 1. Ice Roberts at the line, 2. Go over either who would take the last shot if the game were tied OR, who should get the ball, if Roberts missed the second free throw, to shoot the final foul shots. While the outcome was great for us, the strategy????

Ron Roberts is a dynamic basketball player, matched only by his laser like concentration. A timeout would not have iced him. ;)

As far as strategy goes, they knew what they wanted to do, inbound to Pointer and let him drive the length of the court. You can argue either way. On TV, Valvano questioned Martelli calling a timeout on one of the final Temple possessions. He wondered why not let his experienced guards take it instead. This is always on of the toughest calls. Even though calling a timeout allows a coach to set a play, it also allows a defense to set up as well.
