St. Francis, Sun. Dec. 6, 11am, FS1 & 970AM

Agreed not bad for a team without a ball handler but Indiana will not be a ranked team come seasons end.

I believe as time goes on we will see an improved Johnson. He came in with a ton to prove and is very aggressive by nature and forced too much and tried to do too much. He is a smart kid and hopefully will let the game come to him. I am sure the staff will set him straight and we will be pleased over the course of the next 20 games.
Be happy with the win and get ready for Niagra. We are on a winning streak and let's make it two in a row.

Johnson making everyone eat their words

Sorry, no he is not; getting hot for three shots proves nothing.

Ahem

That was a huge make

It was and I posted as such but we need consistent play not spurts. Hopefully getting his number called in that situation and coming through gets him going. Good call by Mullin, better play by Johnson.

Boy, do we need someone who can handle the ball
If I were an opposing coach, I would press and trap St John's all game long
We would make more turnovers than you would find in a bakery

Mouvika was a disaster today. Ellison showed some ability to bring the ball up before he got hurt but we are desperate for Lovett

Saw the end of the game, ugly. Did Yakwe play, didn't see him ,when I watched. If so, how did he do?

Don't worry, we will be pressed every game, especially after our poor handling of the ball against Fordham and St. Francis. How many balls were taken out of our hands. Pressure is not our friend.

He was in and out, feeling his way.

I understand yawke is raw, but is he really so limited presently that he does not merit playing time on this team such that Christian jones plays over him? If so, he has a lot of improving to do over the next four years.

Mouvika is in a funk. Yet we need him as a ball handler. Can't remember if he took any shots today. Balamou will get his playing time, although he was no bargain today.

Is there a more infuriating player than Jones. Starts of with some good moves and baskets, then puts up garbage or soft stuff and doesn't finish. Then does something that shows athleticism and strength, and then stupid mental mistakes leading to turnovers then back to the soft garbage and then a good play. Freaking roller coaster.

Johnson's excellent game is what we all expected from the beginning. Should give him the confidence he needed. Interestingly, Mullin pulled the star of the game at the beginning of the second half after Durand grabbed a rebound and drove fullcourt finishing with a quick three pointer. Chris spoke to him and got a pat on the back from Johnson. That's good coaching and teaching.

considering he couldn't crack the rotation last year (that was beggin' for bench help)--i'll take the production he is providing. he literally looks like he is learning things about the game he didn't know existed, and he's playing with confidence and direction. but again, his C grade type game right now is certainly better than the straight insignificance he had provided his first two years. i wonder if his development is an indication of the kind of coaching many hoped for with young players?

Jones will be exposed when we play Big East games
Looks like a lion; plays like a lamb

To answer a previous poster's question, as infuriating as he is, at this time, Jones is a better option than Yawke because offense. Yawke as Tux 1 stated had some nice blocks and his athleticism is off the charts. I think he received about 15 minutes.

Antithesis of guys like Ty Grant, Singleton, etc who were smart, well schooled & instinctive players. Sadly Jones just lacks those qualities. It is what it is.

Yakwe played 17 minutes and I thought he did well considering it was his only 2nd college basketball game ever. Really active. He had a couple of impressive blocks. The one where we turned it over and he ran down the St. Francis player on the fast break to swat it away was fantastic. He also drew 2 or 3 offensive fouls. I'd definitely prefer it if Yakwe got Christian's minutes because this feels like a bit of a lost year when it comes to wins/losses, but I can understand Coach wanting to go with experience over a total newbie in a game that felt like a must win for team moral. If it isn't clear yet, I'm drinking the Kool-Aid on Yakwe. I think we got a steal in him. There's a reason we had to fight off Kansas and Iowa State for him.

No such thing as an easy game for us this year. Dumb preventable turnovers and defensive lapses kept it close today. Our guys really don't move to the ball when Mussini gets in trouble. There were two plays a couple of minutes apart where Jones' defender trapped Mussini at half court and Jones ran away wide open with his back to the ball. It looked like Mussini said something to him afterwards. Nice to see Sima and Durand get going.

Durand took over and was exactly what we needed today. The fadeaway jumper on the baseline with around a minute left was a very big shot. We had a big run to close out the first half that saved us, could've been a long day of not for that. Any win is a good win so I'll take it.
