The kid flirted with the NBA last year. Sounds like wherever he goes, he'll play for a semester. Trade one malcontent for another.

If they aggressively pursue McMurray, a PG as noted with baggage, that speaks volumes re roster expectations IMO.

Just like some guys are favor players I think sometimes a kid gets "interest" from a program as a favor. Help build their rep and interest or maybe just to get inside with another target

If true that bodes very poorly. So much for no drama in the post- mullin era.

Don't see the point in trading one high drama kid for another. How is this any different than what lavin was criticized for?

I'll preface my response by admitting that I have absolutely no inside info and it's pure conjecture. But if we're recruiting a point guard for next year who has a clear expectation of starting I think it's reasonable to infer that there is a chance that Lovett may not return. This theory is bolstered by rumors that he wanted to transfer last year coupled with his history of bouncing around in high school. Posters far more connected than me have suggested the same.

For my part, I very much like the kid's game and would love to see him and ponds play together for years to come.

Who is a high drama kid on the team now? If Mussini wants to go back to Italy that is not high drama. Lovett has not shown any apparent drama and if he leaves this year it would be a mistake on his part. Ellison is not high drama. I think Ponds is happy. If he leaves, there is a problem outside of the players.

Maybe "high drama" is a poor choice of words. If the staff is concerned that he's leaving and the kid has played only 12 games that's some drama. didnt he also come off the bench twice this year for disciplinary reasons?

For all I know, the kid may be totally low maintenance. Just reading the tea leaves. As Paultz alluded, they wouldn't seriously go after the South Florida kid unless they had a pretty good idea either ponds, Lovett or both were unlikely to return. Whether we are seriously going after the south Florida kid remains to be seen.

Agree, but don't think so in this case.

Paultz, I suspect you can't share the substance of what you know, but can you confirm whether you have specific information that one of our guards may not return?

My response to Paul just reflects that SJU is serious about McMurray. My guess is he he would like to be starting PG, based on his history, size and time left in college. I just wonder what would shake out if he came here to accommodate him. I certainly have no specific info on anyone leaving, but gut tells me staff is preparing for that possibility.

There is only one possibility:

that would suck as I don't see any other reason to bring him in but better to be safe, I guess.

Hopefully our guys gel in Big East play.

Total conjecture but maybe he would be a mid season replacement if Mussini plans to leave which would be better for us than Ponds or LoVett leaving. Those 3 could share the two guard positions and a 3 guard lineup would have either Ellison or Simon.

I don't think Ponds is leaving, on his instagram two weeks ago he said coming to SJU was the greatest decision ever. Marcus on the other hand ( shrugs)

Need a good passer to go with Ponds.
