yeah but he looks about as happy as me when I look at my score card

Take this for what it is worth. Last week, I was on a charter fishing boat with friends. I was wearing a St.J hoodie. At one point, the mate walked over to me and said," mark my words, St. John's will be in the Final 4 in 3 years.". He also claims to have picked the last 2 national champions, pre-season! Included in this was winning 24k in a pool.
I hope that he is right!
Didn't realize state psychiatric facilities chartered fishing boats. ;) :)

You missed One Flew Over The Cuckcoo's Nest?

I think what I'm most excited about in regard to the program is the state of the recruiting. Since I've been a fan starting in 2001 or so, I can't remember this level of high level recruiting going on. It seems we've got just about the best talent we've had in a very long time, and also are mentioned with many top recruits who are seriously considering us in the next few years.

I became a ST John's fan because of Chris Mullin. Wanted the Knicks to not win the Ewing Lottery so they could draft Mullin. Steve Lavin was a clunkhead and self promoter. Steve Lavin' first year was head and shoulders over anything Mullin has done here.
Just thought I would temper the hyperbole before people start getting carried away like the above poster.

Loved Lavins first year recruits except Lindsey. But, have to put it in perspective. A lot of Lavins recruits didn't qualify. Should have gotten transfers to balance classes out . Plus should have not encouraged players to leave and could barely field a team on the court his second year.

When I was Training Director at Creedmoor it was the PINA IV out of Gerritsen Beach, about 5 or 6 of us. We caught about 45 blues and five or six weakfish.

Hmmm
Wasn't there a tad difference in the teams players and programs they inherited?
Had Lavin inherited " nothing" as CM did, I wonder what his first two years would've been like?

Per Rothstein:

Justin Simon now up to 215 lbs
Was 188 when he arrived on campus
A real positive for us as we head into next season

Quinnipiac transfer Mikey Dixon needs to add weight, but is an effortless scorer. Reminds me of former Miami guard Malcolm Grant. #SJUBB

St. John's has the talent to be a Top-5 team in the Big East, but does it have the consistency? Was a feast or famine team last year. #SJUBB

The potential unsung presence for St. John's? Sidney Wilson. Has Mikal Bridges' caliber length. Could emerge as a weapon in reserve. #SJUBB

One of the big keys for St. John's next season? Getting Kassoum Yakwe back to the form he showed as a freshman. Critical piece. #SJUBB

Final thought on St. John's in 17-18: A team that could finish anywhere between 5 and 8 in the Big East. Talent level is undeniable. #SJUBB

Paultz Hopefully Dixon's judgement is a little better than Mal's. You may recall that he began at Nova and took a lot of bad shots for Frank Haith at Miami. Things changed for both he and former Rice star Durand Scott the minute Jim Larranaga became the coach.

If were talking about assembling talent . Id say comparing their 3rd years is pretty fair.

Mullin's 3rd year
Ponds soph
Lovett RS soph
Ahmed sr
Clark RS Jr
Owens RS Jr
Simon RS Soph
Yakwe Jr
Wilson Fresh

Sit outs
Dixon
Keita

Lavin's 3rd year
Harrison soph
Greene soph
Amir soph
Dom soph
Jakarr Fresh
Obekpa Fresh
Branch (sat first semester)
CJ fresh
Felix fresh

sit outs
Sanchez
Gods'gift

Would saying this roster is more talented be too outlandish?

Omar looks absolutely ripped. Too bad he can't petition the NCAA for the lost 3 years that he should have stayed for. Just kidding, but does anybody know if he is playing anywhere? He is the one guy, I regret did not stay a couple of more years. He really could have turned out to be a number 1 round pick and it might have turned out differently for him and us. Water under the bridge.

He should have added DEFENSIVE improvement. That will be the key. We must rebound and play better defense (especially on the 3) . If not, results will be erratic. I think this is where Simon and Clark will really help us.

All I said was his first recruiting class of Pointer, Harkless, Sampson, Garret and Harrison blows away anything we have seen since Fran was recruiting. I like Mullin and thought Lavin was a knucklehead but you have to give credit where credit is due.
In fact though not a recruiting expert by any means, Ponds is Mullin's only recruit on par with Pointer, Harrison, Garrett, Harkless, Sampson and Jordan who were all top 100 ESPN guys. I know Lovett's ranking was skewed and Simon was a top 100 guy but we are getting him after he flamed out at another school. I have no issue with the whole transfer thing but to me it is more impressive if you get them out of HS.

Why are Lovett, Yakwe, and Sid not on par with Garrett? All top 100 guys. My point was to back up room 112 who just said the recruiting under Mullin has been great. Looking at our roster it would say he is right.

He said it is the best he has seen since he has been a fan in 2001 which I disagree with. I thought Lavin brought in more talent. If you want to say he has been a way better recruiter than the last few years of Jarvis and what Norm did then I would absolutely agree.
