Having a top 25 ranking with your name every time it is mentioned on a broadcast or written on a tv screen has more impact on the casual fan than does RPI. Hopefully, it helps put butts in the seats. Ultimately, RPI will be important to the selection committee but, right now, I want that ranking.

Last week we only appreared on one AP balllot (http://collegebasketball.ap.org/poll-voter/rick-bozich) so it will be tough too crack in, but I think we will be right where you project in the 20's.
True however there is some self-feeding mathematics in being ranked in the top 25 when you get into conference play when you face a team 2 or more times and the other teams that you both play are facing you and affecting their RPI. And officially or not, the selection is done by humans and there is a perception factor.
I would normally agree with Avon about this topic, but I am with simply red here. Also, it will help on the recruiting front. Having a number in front of your name gives the idea of a tournament team.
Let's face it, this program needs every ounce of good publicity it can get.
There is a very good chance that both the ladies and the men will crack the top 25 this week. The ladies just won a scrappy game against a very strong USF team in Tampa to go 6-0. It would be good news all around at SJU. I don't remember a time when both were recognized in the same poll in the same week. They won by three .in a game that was close all day

I don't think the basketball polls are nearly as rigid as football ones, so we don't necessarily have to endure a process where we creep from 30 to 28 to 26 and on and on. If enough voter-viewers thought we looked like the 20th best team in the country, we'll appear somewhere around there. And I think we do in terms of results and highlight reel.

If we do crack the Top 25, it should serve as vindication / inspiration for the players. "We are a ranked team, let's play one" type of thing.
Nothing like getting rewarded for effort and wins.
If we do not make the Top 25 now, we may have to wait a good while longer, given the upcoming schedule. We certainly should be above Michigan
