@SJUCoachLavin

Good news. Hopefully they all qualify, unlike last year.

I believe that all are already qualified. Only one is the lone ship we still haven't accounted for since we never heard anything about Wood's status.

Young, but deep and talented. I think we'll look good by second half of season.

Could not agree more. I'm hoping we are able to hold serve in Nov/Dec (avoid bad losses/digging a hole) so that we are able to optimize the quality wins I think this team could be picking up in Jan/Feb come selection time.

I think the Dunlap replacement hire is critical here. Not shortchanging the rest of this tremendous coaching staff, but Dunlap really seemed to specialize in getting the group to play together in the system (particularly defensively) in a compressed timeframe. The difference between watching both the 10/11 and 11/12 team play from December to January was startling. Like someone flipped a switch, and I think that may have been Dunlap.

We'll probably hear this or a variation thereof as a refrain from broadcasters next season.

Lavin is an impresario when it comes to drawing attention to the team.

Has there been any chatter about Coach Dunlap's replacement?

Youngest in terms of upperclassman? Probably. But, we will have 5 sophs who will all be well ahead on the experience factor, compared to others of a similar age. Don't discount that. If we do press fullcourt, look for Pointer to really break out next year.

Even with a new assistant coming in, we're still going to press and create a fast-paced game, that's Lavin's style. And we're also probably continue to play a variety of zones because that's what Lavin likes. The big difference is we'll be able to come at teams in waves. And we'll have more of a defensive presence underneath.

Dom's going to be an animal at the top of the trap.

I don't follow twitter so I don't know what other coaches write but it seems Lavin has perfected the use of the internet already.

He can't comment on recruits but he can deliver cryptic messages so you kind of know what he is talking about without him directly talking about it.

He is also the master of guiding expectations.

If he ever didn't want to coach or go to back to the studio I swear he'd be the perfect politician ( I'm not saying that in a bad way )

@TomSportshq We expect to have a nice mix of Johnnies who jump to the NBA balanced by a core of 4 year players. Need tortoise and hare.

So, other than Sampson and Obekpa and possibly Sanchez (all of whom, I understand, are subject to debate), who else on the team would you consider "hares"? I love D'Lo, but I don't see him making the early jump notwithstanding his great offensive numbers, because I don't think he's athletic enough to garner early attention. Amir could make the jump to baseball, but that's a different race altogether.

The short answer, I think, is that you never know. I don't think anyone on this board though Mo would be one-and-done. From what Dave has said before, even Mo himself and his camp thought the plan was, at best, two years before making the leap. Every year guys make a jump and play themselves into the first round, in which case they are almost certain to take life changing guaranteed money. Based on what I've read about Obekpa, he seems to raw at this point, and he isn't 6"11. Sampson I guess is a possibility if his outside game develops. I've never seen Sanchez play, so who knows. But I agree wholeheartedly with Lavin's strategy. Unless you are Kentucky or Carolina, you need a mix of recruits who project potentially leaving early (meaning they are top talents) with guys who will take more time to develop, and end up four year players. It helps balance out the roster. If a guy like Felix, for example, ends up being like Paris Horne, that is a great guy to have 3 or 4 years on your squad.

Agree with your assessment of D'angelo completely. Love the guy, but I don't see the NBA knocking down the doors for him. And who knows what Amir's longterm plan is, I guess we'll hear more probably after next summer if he's pitching in games.

But when did Sanchez's name start getting mentioned in the pro discussion? That's not a criticism, I'm just curious because I've seen a few people mention orlando as a potential one and done. Are we assuming he wants to play overseas ASAP simply because of his age?
Because I watched several of Monroe's playoff games... he looks good, especially his floor vision for a forward, but I didn't see anything that shouted nba. He does look like a solid contributor, but how many junior college guys leave after a year for the nba? I can't think of any. Steve Francis maybe, that's all I got.

I also do not believe the NBA will be knocking down the door for Harrison. Do not get me wrong, as I'm a huge Harrison fan. I love his game and what he brings to the table (intangibles). He may eventually get his chance to play in the NBA, but I don't see it after next season. I'm also one who feels we'll see Garrett play four years with the Johnnies.

I'm also guessing some people are talking about Sanchez and one-and-done due to his age. IMO, that is the only reason why a handful of posters have mentioned or inquired about it. We also know how GMs views a player who is over 22 years old. I don't think his game necessarily screams NBA, but I think he has the skillset that could possibly parlay into the NBA. Sanchez has a very, solid floor game.

Could have been referring to Harkless and future recruits not necessarily anyone on this team. Chris O? Not to be critical cause I'm ecstatic we got him but he couldn't put the ball in the ocean on the HS level and in one yr some of you have him jumping to the NBA? Guess we do have the greatest coaching staff in the world. :)
