SJU vs Pitt Game Thread

I think if we get in to the NCAA tourny then we deserve it, and if we don't get in then we don't. And that's my final thought on this matter!

I am proposing a vote to moderators that game threads be immediately deleted after a game.

honestly I dont think that would do much because when people get home from games we are still going to want to talk about it somewhere so you will just get post game threads

Some people just need to chill out with the crazy abrasive writing styles and take a deep breath before they post

Really, it's just a few people ruining it for everyone else. I was at the game today as well, wasn't too happy with performance, but I'm not going to come home and fight with my own team's fans, it's pointless.

Really? I feel like I don't get treated unfairly on this board. And i don't know if ive ever mentioned this but I'm 15 years old so enough with that crap

Jack,
Thanks for your posts. There's a reason you don't get trated unfairly because of your age. Except for one poster here, no one cares about your age, just your ability to contribute and enjoy this board as a fan. I think that anyone who watches basketball, and SJU in particular can contri bute something positive here. I really don't care whether someone is older or younger. In fact, the guys older than me here can comment on how good Tony Jackson was, if Alan seiden was as talented as is written about him, what was Kevin Loughery like as a Redmen, etc, etc. I appreciate there insights - would be phenomenal to hear form a poster who knew Looie as a student or even an assistant here. I'd appreciate a current student who know D'Lo or played hs ball with Jakarr and can tell us what they are like off the court. All that matters is loving SJU basketball and coming here to contribute positively. There are enough negative blogs and websites, and actually if you keep it positive you'll make friends here. I have not always been positive, but I've made more friends here than in all my years as a season ticket holder. So, like many, I thank Paul for this site.

So why were you just blasting my entire generation if it doesn't matter? If it didn't matter you wouldn't have made that comment. Unless you have dissociative personality disorder (formerly multiple personality disorder)? Maybe it was an alter ego...I'll let it slide.

read again...he said "most, not all"... anyway, do you ever wonder why almost everyone on here (except possibly the new douche miguel) can't stand you? perhaps it's you, not the other posters. look at yourself... you're a whiney medium shirt wearing idiot. I'm only like 6 or 7 years older then you, so don't label me as one of the grumpy old men....i just know a real d!ck when i see one... i wish Paul would add a block poster feature so i didn't have to see what you write... you are a cancer to this board and i wish you would've stuck to your word when you said you would never post here again.

I do know the reason. It involves sheep and you are one of the ones being herded. Sheep tend to follow each other. Not all men have the balls to be different even if they know people will disagree. Look at politics. No different here. And I hope you don't kiss your mother with that potty mouth!

I know this is a place to vent but dont some of you get tired constantly complaining after every game?

SJUalum98 made a sound, clear post after our loss today, and you could sense he was upset about today's loss. I have no problems with Joe3, other than him being annoying and posting asinine material. He's attempting to say something when posting, but many times it's over-the-top. I have agreed with him a time or two. But for the most part I haven't agreed with him.

The new pest--miguel--has yet to attempt to say anything. His posts are all about goading, and showing how much he can be a bigger johnson.

I can understand someone going off every now and again, but when it's your MO, then it becomes monotonous and tired. I've said it before and I'll say it again.... I'd rather be around someone who's optimistic versus someone who's pessimistic.... All day long!

What? You really think nobody agrees with you because we are just dull people who fail to be different? Oh please you don't know me and almost anyone else on this board so don't act like you do. I would agree with you or say I liked your posts if I did. If everyone else hated your posts and I liked them I promise you I would say so. But I hate your posts. I am sorry but I do. You obviously have a fierce passion for St Johns University Basketball but your posts sometimes give me a vibe like you can't stand our program and the direction it is going. You think you are the only fan that missed the "glory days". My first season as a fan of SJU was Mason Jr's last year. You seriously act like everyone that saw the years they made the final four are spoiled and don't know how tough you have it. If you want this team to be good so bad, do what I do, just cheer for them through thick and thin and when they lose look on the positive side of things instead of acting like the sky is falling. You really just need to cakm down and you will be fine.

Does it really matter if he starts? He could start, pick up 2 quick fouls and be on the bench. I like the lineup with 2 legit 3 pt threats on the floor, if CO starts it probably means Marco sits. Either way CO will get his minutes.

oh and I'm guessing this game is a pk

Yes it clearly matters if he starts, he did not start against a big Pitt lineup and that was a mistake. Oblockpa was not in the game and look at the fast start Pitt got off to. Obekpa may not be the most talented player on the team(especially offensively obviously) but in my opinion he may be the most important player on the team. They are an entirely different team defensively with him on the court as teams are scared to come inside against him. He must play a lot more minutes, 22 is a joke. Lavin could have recognized the error and started him in the second half, however he did not and Pitt got more easy baskets early in the half. I don't understand the love for Marco on this board, he is a nice complimentary player off the bench but his best quality is shooting 3's and he went 0-3 today. He is not half the player Obekpa is. I love Lavin but I have no clue what he is trying to do. This is a team of talented athletes who love to play in transition, you just can't play zone with this group. They have the perfect player in Obekpa to play man to man since if anyone gets beat off the dribble he is there to reject/intimidate. When they have played badly many times it is because they leave open 3 point shooters, that should not happen in man defense as often. It is much tougher to get the break going and defensive rebound out of zone instead of a pressure man to man. Sampson, D'Lo and Pointer to name a few need to get out and run. We all know how badly their offense runs in a half court set.
Finally, I hope everyone that thought that Pitt should have been anywhere from a pick to a 2 point favorite has stopped drinking the kool aid after watching the game today. I don't know why everyone thought this was a must win or even a likely win, each game we have down the stretch is tough but this was the best team we had left and the team we matched up worst with. Now a lot of you people have all jumped off the bandwagon and think we will never win another game. The fact is we can possibly win all three games(although the odds are against) and we can possibly lose all three or any variable in between.

Yeah man it gets old fast. Grown men crying like little girls after every loss. Were all STJ fans (I think) and all want this team to succeed but some people need to chill before going on constant rants. It really makes it tough to read these threads

I unfortunately don't think we crack 45 points against them.

And you came pretty damn close with this prediction
I hope you listened to him and did not unload too much on the Redmen +7 with your local wager consultant.

Nah my consultant said +6 so I didnt do anything with it. Got lazy. Lucky me. lol

I unfortunately don't think we crack 45 points against them.

And you came pretty damn close with this prediction

I think I remember reading that they don't give up too many points a game, and combined with the fact that we go through long spurts of brainlessness on offense seemed like a scary combination to me. Not as scary as some of the posts in this thread, though -- I can't believe I willingly share a board with some of the clowns on here.

Even if we won, we may have found ourselves on the outside looking in. There's probably only 35 available spots for the six major conferences, so it was going to be an uphill climb. Plus we've had some putrid losses and the committee wants teams that will put on a good show.

The season's not over until we lose in the BET. So until then, some people need to ingest some prozac and let the season play out. No one wants the NIT, but the Sealy and Hatten runs were fun, so just relax and try to be a fan. And adopt St. Louis and Butler as your tournament favs.

We played with Pitt and actually outplayed them for 30 minutes. Sucks that the wheels fell off. Lets win these last three and make a run in BET and go dancing!!

Jack I really need to ask you something.
We see how we play against the better B.E. teams, we not not very good vs. them. If the last 3 were against DePaul, USF and SHU then i`d agree and say yeah lets win the last 3 games, we will play @ PC (they are better especially the game being in their house, @ ND (that`s a loss, and Vs Marquette (that`s probably a loss as well).
To me they`ll lucky to get one of the last 3.

Listen I`m a die hard Redmen fan (yeah please call these guys Johnnies, because they`ll never the Redmen.), I`m still waiting for MSG to rock for SJU like in the 80s. Not just once every 5,6 years we are good but year in and year out.

So Jack here`s the question. Please I`d like to know this especially after todays game.
WTF really makes you think that we are going to win the last 3 games? I would seriously like to know this.
Yeahj hoping is all good but you can hope all you want but it`s not going to happen.

I think we can win these three because

a) I like how we matchup against Providence, plus a week to prepare for them, we can win that

b) I don't know why you said @ ND is a guaranteed loss, DePaul lost in OT against ND twice this year, one at ND, So why Am I crazy for thinking they can beat ND?

c) Weeks ago people on here were breaking down our schedule saying Marquette is one of hardest games of the year, so I've watched their last 3 or 4 games. How do I describe those games? UNIMPRESSED. Overrated, lazy D, and struggle on the road
Good points, very smart for a 15 year old. I like the optimism. I would add on Notre Dame if we beat them once already there is absolutely no reason why we can't beat them again. I do think you are being a little harsh on Marquette although I believe we have a decent chance to beat them.
