SJU Power Forward Portal Targets

Haven't checked how he did, but it sounds like pretty good competition.

Thing that sticks out to me is his FT% dropped from 70% to 55%, poor to no 3pt shooting, and 2 fouls per game w/ only 12 minutes per game.

But that's playing in the pinnacle of Spanish League basketball. I would guess it's probably more competitive than the Big East. Look at their roster, they've got two guys older than me. lol. (Wish I didn't have a flu so I wouldn't be looking this up on a sunny day. lol)

Here’s the issue with this whole Ruben Prey stuff. The only one to confirm our actual contact with him is Y2 and his reliability is highly questionable. The guy in this post used the term “rumored” which for all we know he could have seen it from this site. Braziller, barely mentioned it so he doesn’t sound like he’s updated on it and the only solid info we know is that Pitino visited him last year. I think you are all setting yourselves up for another disappointment. I would wait till some solid info came forward that’s published. And I don’t mean the info from fellow posters who admittedly are having a hard time with their accuracy lately.
Braziller has noted SJU interest, but also a potential eligibility hurdle. He told me this directly.

Prey was mentioned last year by others. The Y2 witch hunt is closing in on Bukayo Saka/English media at this point.

Prey would be a very strong addition, especially this late. I hope this somehow ends well.
As Paultz and others have said, the interest seems mutual with the major hurdle seeming to be being cleared by the NCAA.

His team would beat any college team by 20+ so it’s hard to take away too much from how an 18 year old played with grown men.

The three Americans were P6 all-conference players…one led the PAC-12 in scoring. Another played in the NBA for a bit. And only one starts.

Rudy Fernandez and Ricky Rubio played for them as teens as well as other first round picks I don’t recognize.

I don’t see how he’d be an amateur, but I have absolutely no question as to his ability to play extremely well in a high major conference.

It's extremely impressive he was able to carve out 12mpg there, literally in any context.

The NCAA would agree he'd be whatever KS/KY/Duke/UNC/AL/ARK wanted him to be labeled if they were involved.

St. John’s was interested last year when Pitino visited Greece to meet with his agent. I’m sure the interest has always been there but has it gone further than that? Just being interested doesn’t say much plus citing NCAA issues doesn’t give much clarity or hope at all. Plus the fact that Brazeller didn’t mention him till after it was posted on here, and we all know he likes to break such news, seems suspect at beset. In short I’ll believe it when it happens which like most fans, hope it does. 😎👍

I could see Men's College Hoops becoming a conduit system for European and International players once the Power Conference elites look across the Pond to strengthen their rosters and High Major hoops further shredding its long-ago amateur roots, which would likely have a major impact on H.S. recruiting as well.

Very similar profile as Prey, playing in that top European league + Adidas. Seems like there's no eligibility concerns.
Seems like 'good' news unless the NCAA plans to invoke an eligibility regimen different for the Power Football-centric Conferences vs. the foster-child Hoops Only leagues..

Nice catch, dk. Gawd, this guy is far more a 'pro' than the guy we Prey for, lol.
I thought I read that headline the other day but forgot 'where'. Thanks.

The scout guy on the discord also notably said he graduated in 2023. I could be wrong but thought academics was an issue last go around so I’m not sure if that was like also resolve it. We’ll see!

That article also states that: "A flurry of elite international prospects are expected to announce their commitments to some of the top programs in college basketball, as the proliferation of NIL agreements has made the NCAA a far more attractive route in recent years."

Maybe the hoops gods are smiling on us for once?

I think we’ll see a ton of Euro guys commit over the summer.

Then all Prey has to do is say he is go to an SEC/Big 10/Big 12 program and he will be good to go.

If this proves out, the glass has got to be half-full for us.

One would think that even UCONN would side with its poorer conference cousins.

Still feeling sick and Mets making me feel worse, so I decided to go into some box scores.

-- he's #9 on green

The level of competition he played against is truly crazy.

Prey played 25 minutes in the game.

The other team:
Semi Ojelaye, 29 years old, former NBA player
Damien Inglis, 29 years old, former 2nd round pick
Jared Harper, 26 years old, former standout at Auburn who led them to Final Four
Kassius Robertson, 30 years old, led Mizzou in scoring
Victor Claver, 35 years old, first round pick who never went to the NBA

The NCAA would agree he'd be whatever KS/KY/Duke/UNC/AL/ARK wanted him to be labeled if they were involved.
Kentucky has been in this situation recently and the end result was the player had to sit out X number of games before he would be eligible to play.
