SJU Portal Targets

Don't think it's officially official yet, but chatter made it all the way out to my neck of the woods so I'm confident he's the third man. Then again, that might not mean much
Only chatter in my woods is the woodpecker in tree doing his thing. Rely on this board for chatter. Although, thinkin of getting a ham radio to find out whos on the road recruiting who!

So Jackson and Mitchell would be the headliners of the group visiting this weekend and under consideration currently. Are Sellers and Lee thought of as rotation pieces? Or could they be ready to step in and start?

Lee would be our starting PG. Sellers is a starter but it gets crowded with Sanon and hypothetically Jackson and Sellers so idk.

Lee would be out starting PG

Puzzling, yet welcomed problem to have if this comes to fruition. I’ll default to the often used “Trust Rick” approach, but like you am very interested to get a sense of his plan.
One thing about the process thus far is that it adds players that vastly improve the offense but almost certainly reduce the defensive uniqueness (well, Houston but whatever) we had last year. Clearly Pitino thinks he can just coach shooters into playing that kind of defense but I am far from convinced of that. Dillon Mitchell changes that equation all by himself and restores a lot of defensive presence that I think would otherwise be missing.

Not as excited as some here since this 5* made very slow progress in college.
No outside shot and a horrible free throw shooter. Career. 22% from three and .48% freebies. Yes, he can rebound but I would foul him in any close game.
We shall see if the price is right.
Whether you like Mitchell or not, we can all chill knowing that HCRP will make the “right” call as he sees it and how the benefits and deficits shake out.
Just another positive facet of our good fortune of having Rick Pitino as our guiding light 🏀
What's not to like and trust what our Head Coach has already brought to the court!

Jackson, Mitchell and Lee are exciting.

Regarding Sellers.....I think it has to be Sim or Sellers. I would prefer to carry two true PGs, especially after seeing Deivon Smith go down.
I keep hoping that we are not seeing Sim hit the portal as we pick up more great guards. I expect big things from Sim as a 3 year player under CRP. Hoping he makes an RJ-like jump in overall play, but he has a lot of work to do in the offseason to get there.

Not feeling Lee but we’ll see. In any event staff will land someone competent. If DJ Wagner is in mix if Lee heads to Florida, I’ll leave it to guys like dk & Mug, others to give opinions on if he could work or not. One thing for sure is that any PG candidate will find the cast around him outstanding and attractive.

Re Mitchell, Sellers and Jackson via guys close to program I talk to and Discord apostles here I sense;

👍👍👍

Cincy fans all raved about Mitchell, saying he was the most level-headed on the team + cares most about winning. They also said he's best suited for being a 4 on offense and a 3 on defense -- perfect combination with Hopkins.

Sim/Sellers/Mitchell/Prey/Zuby is truly a death lineup of epic proportions, in terms of defense

Agree on Mitchell a ton.

Honestly, if somehow we landed Lee, Sellers, Jackson and Mitchell then I can see Pitino using a 3 guard lineup more. Sanon and Sellers are both 6’5 and Lee and Jackson 6’4 which isn’t so bad. A little shorter than this past season but doable IMO.

Not feeling him coming here or unimpressed by what he brings on the court?

I think that is a fair assumption, though, right? We knew Scott coming in was a defensive add, but Kadary and RJ were never defense first guys. Zuby was a bench piece. Rick was able to coach those three into being some of the top defenders in the country (think Kadary and Zuby were like top 25 or something). I like the idea of bringing in big, athletic kids that can shoot. I would assume size, strength and quickness are assets when it comes to learning defense. But if you can't shoot, well, you may never learn to shoot.

I like Wagner a lot and would be thrilled with him as the starting PG. I think he would thrive here. I am certain he is motivated to become a third generation NBA player and Pitino will get him there. And this is no knock on Lee whatsoever. It just my unprofessional opinion.

Plus, his grandfather, Milt (yikes I am old) and those Louisville teams under Denny Crumb were fun to watch.

To me, having Mitchell, Sellers, and Jackson, (oh my) is more important at the moment.

There are more very good PGs available, or soon will be than we originally expected.
