SJU Portal Targets

Mitchell is quite literally the perfect player for the defense Pitino wants to play. He can switch on to anybody and guard 1-5. Him and Zuby next to each other is an absurdly good defensive combo at the 4 and 5.

That said, he is a bit of an odd fit offensively, as others have said. Him, Hopkins and Zuby are going to have to play together for some stretches to get the minutes they need. That's going to be a weird trio on offense as neither Mitchell nor Hopkins are 3s. Maybe Rick plans to have Mitchell play some 5 and while he's athletic enough for it I don't know if he has the beef to battle with guys like Reed, Freeman and Sorber consistently.

My head is spinning trying to figure out how these minutes would be distributed if Mitchell, Sellers, and Jackson all do come aboard. Again, not complaining at all as you don't turn down talent like this and having depth is critical to withstand injuries (we were moderately lucky in the injury department this season) but I would be very interested to see what Rick's plan would be to mix and match these lineups.

Assuming we see Jackson and Sellers both commit + a PG that’s 5 guys for 2-3 spots. Unless Rick plans on using a 3 true guard lineup much more it’ll be hard to get these guys minutes. But that will be a hell of an electric lineup.

Why just three, why not four visiting this weekend (yes I am being greedy), Sellers, Lee, Mitchell and Jackson?

Sounds like it is from Moose’s comment. I heard yesterday they were working on Lee’s visit, so I guess it was nailed down. This is really a warp speed process starting w Hopkins and Sanon out of the gate. Rick is not f’n around.

Sounds like the perfect complimentary player to Zuby/Bryce and all the shooters we will have. Need someone with this skill set to help Zuby on D and get us easy baskets on cuts and fast breaks. We are losing a ton on the defensive end without Scott and a lot in transition and athleticism with RJ and Smith gone. If we get this kid I’d expect him to play a ton and be a glue guy.

Puzzling, yet welcomed problem to have if this comes to fruition. I’ll default to the often used “Trust Rick” approach, but like you am very interested to get a sense of his plan.

Jackson, Mitchell and Lee are exciting.

Regarding Sellers.....I think it has to be Sim or Sellers. I would prefer to carry two true PGs, especially after seeing Deivon Smith go down.
