Zuby last year < Zuby next year
Kadary < Mitchell (look up the stats, lol)
Scott > Hopkins (can easily be even next year)
RJ < Sanon
Agree but would say it’s at least a reasonable debate lol. I think Hopkins is more of a perimeter threat and someone who needs to be respected with the ball than Scott. But I’d also give the edge to Kadary over Mitchell for the same reason.

Mitchell made three more 3s than Kadary last year!

DM better athlete than MD but Mitchell’s shooting makes Kadary look like Steph Curry.
I wish they would go after Dioubate. Mitchell looks like a very athletic big who plays well in transition and in the paint but the FT and 3PT% is really, really, low! 3PT % in 2022-23 and 2023-24 is non-existent - your comparison to Kadary is spot on! Rick would pull his hair out every time he went to the free throw line!

Lol yeah and that’s crazy but there’s more to it than that tho. One guy made 10 the other made 7, but the one who made 7 was constantly a threat with the ball.

Whoa now. Gotta go out and do it. Last year was unexpectedly magic.

Agree but just speaking hypothetically, what lane is more clogged?
Zuby, Scott, RJ, Kadary or
Zuby, Mitchell, Hopkins, Sanon
Neither of those lanes are clogged. Zuby playing top of the key for PnR and dribble handoffs, keep Mitchell cutting and moving for some hi-low/lobs, and iso Hopkins on mismatches. Shot goes up and all 3 attack.

Mitchell is high level as a DHO guy up top

I honestly wanted to put Hopkins there because Scott is so streaky and one dimensional. His three point shooting felt more hypothetical than reality for most of the year
Scott had horrific shot selection for us and he was a complete non-threat off the bounce. He shot 29.3% from 3 at this level.

Hopkins flirts with 40% from 3 and he is a real threat off the dribble. He will also command double teams which is huge for spacing.

To be fair, Hopkins was 18% the year before last in a larger sample size than last year. But I do think it’s entirely realistic to think he’ll be 34-36%. Sanon is also the perfect catch and shoot guys that defenders will have to keep honest. Lee has deep range as well, which is really helpful for spacing.

I’m really not worried about the spacing with Mitchell. It would mean things went wrong with other places on the roster if it’s a discussion next year.

Good point as a scouting report details;

Dillon Mitchell is known for his versatile and impactful defense, excelling as a switchable defender capable of guarding both forwards and guards, with athleticism allowing him to cover the court effectively and hustle for rebounds and loose balls.

Here's a more detailed look at Mitchell's defensive strengths:
  • Athleticism and Versatility:
Mitchell possesses elite athleticism, allowing him to jump high, rebound, and move quickly on the court.

  • Switchable Defender:
He can comfortably guard both forwards and guards, making him a valuable asset in various defensive schemes.

  • Hustle and Work Ethic:
Mitchell is known for his willingness to hustle and do the "dirty work" on the defensive end, often diving for loose balls and closing out shooters.

  • Rebounding:
He is a high-level rebounder who can initiate the break.

  • Defensive Playmaking:
Mitchell has shown an ability to make defensive plays and has improved as a defensive playmaker.

  • Examples of Defensive Skills:
    • He can cover the court in trapping schemes, be switchable in the half-court, versatile in ball-screen coverages, and provide shot-blocking from the weakside of the floor.

    • He turns his hips well when defending and has good footwork, getting himself in good position to rebound the ball.

    • He can guard the opposing team's best player.
  • Similarities to Derrick Jones Jr.:
Mitchell displays similarities to Derrick Jones Jr. as a left-handed, highly versatile defender who can jump out of the gym.

That all sounds great to me. Especially if we add 2 more shooters. We need help on D and in transition as we are losing RJ, Smith and Kadary and their abilities on the break. We’ll be much better in the half court but we need guys who can rebound and start the break so we get easy buckets too.
