Portal watch is better than saga of following HS kids where you romance them/stoke their egos for 2-3 years only to be left at the altar. Portal is all business.
Agreed!!! Portal has been a blessing in that regard. Unless you are an absolute STUD (five star), you are just a talented high school recruit... With the portal, talent and projection are not enough to solidify your spot for four/five years. You have to have some value. There must be an ROI, or you get the boot and replaced. Putting the ball in the hole is all that all that matters...
"Kids" wanted to get paid. They are. They are now professionals. The ante has been upped. Gone are the days of amateurism, GPAs, and tickle me feel good stories. Rivalries, by and large, are dead. It's all about TV money, Q1 wins, and spending millions of dollars on the roster.
How viable this is in the long term is anyone's guess. Truth is I can't think of another professional sport where fans are expected to fund salaries like they are in college. Usually we get nailed at the gate, via concessions, etc.
Just going to try and enjoy this scene for as long as I can. I trust things will get way worse, because the NCAA is an inept organization that ruins everything. Football was first; men's hoops is next...
Enjoy the ride, boys.
