SJU Portal Targets

If Richmond is our primary ball-handler then we are going to be back on the bubble unless Pitino also made the same deal with devil Danny Hurley apparently did.

More I'm looking at the roster - esp after Glenn's departure... we can be very well served with a "Stretch 4"... not sure Scott falls into a "Forward' role, but have to like 37% from 3 on 120 attempts last season.

Have to be some scorers we are looking at that haven't leaked yet...
I really like Bensley Joseph’s former teammate, Norchad Omier who has declared for the draft (again). Likely won’t be back and I don’t see him getting drafted this year.

I don’t disagree one bit but the reality makes me sad as hell, just seems like the current “leaders” of the sport are hell bent on destroying it. But then again, aren’t sports just a microcosm of…………….ah, never mind.
The problem is we still want it to be "kids going to college and playing basketball" instead of "Minor league for NBA with full free agency that happens to use the collegiate structure."

I am not happy about it

I agree with everything you've posted on this thread. I have tremendous respect for Richmond as a player - he's enormously productive in multiple facets. But I don't see him playing at the pace Pitino wants to play; I wonder about the culture fit; and if you're going to play him on the floor with Luis and a big, there's no room left in the lane.

Yes you can play him at point forward as Paultz suggests and put Wilcher and a sharpshooter in the backcourt and that might work - but it doesn't really provide as much long-range shooting as you'd think Pitino would want unless Richmond and/or Luis improve their perimeter game substantially. Which is possible, but not certain. Even if you say "well Richmond is the point forward so we don't need Wilcher on the floor at the same time, we could put 2 shooters on the floor and rotate him in" that doesn't make much of a difference - especially since Wilcher may well be one of your shooters.

If you were swapping in Richmond for Luis, that is an entirely different discussion. You lose athleticism but gain a LOT of productivity. However that does not seem to be the move.

Just weird all around.

Also want no part of Krissa, 100% in agreement on that one.

Suspect there is some work in progress that we have yet to see.

Sim shot over 50% from 3 after Feb 1. ;)

I believe 79 posted recently that the staff was not enamored with Joseph after he worked out for us.
Right, fans often say that a guy "wasn't wanted" after he commits to another program. But in this particular case several folks did say right after the workout that pitino had cooled on him and then he added the providence visit so it seems accurate.

Obviously you have to recruit portal on assumption Ledlum & Dingle don’t get waiver. In that case you lose a ton of scoring that also includes Joel and of course Jenkins. Yes, you expect some holdovers to improve their numbers, but the void would be a challenge. Obviously Cliff would be upgrade to Joel re rebounding, blocks and a wash scoring wise. The remaining spots to fill are not easy, but there a ton of quality players out there. I think Rick will do fine getting the right guys who fit what he wants to do, but certainly this is not easy.

If they take a stab at kids from lower level schools remember game changers in BE like Spencer, Kolek and Scheierman all took that leap.

Because of the portal every coach has to deal with replacing marquee and even solid players every year. Either they go pro or transfer. Some very good players stay with their teams for multiple years but it is getting to be fewer and fewer. It is going to be musical chairs for the best players and this is the new normal every year until the portal changes. It is so much more of a grind for coaches but this is the current world we all live in.

I am glad we have RP at the helm but this is even new to him. This can be both good and bad. You can go from a crap team to very good team and vice versa from year to year. Good time to have RP as our coach.

Dillon Mitchell a talented Soph forward from Texas will be a prime SJ target, but has not entered portal yet I believe. Plenty of competition for him I would think.

This kid is a real difference maker. Woukd be a BIG time get.
