The current system is the system and just like high school rankings can be wildly off. It is very tough for fans to know who fits, who doesn't and how to allocate an NIL budget. Hey, it's very tough for coaches, which is why a bunch of older ones said "check please" the last few years. Pitino has proven over a long career to not only be a great college coach but an adaptable one. At his age hopefully he can work within this system as well, and at SJU he won't be the richest man at the table but he isn't going to be a pauper either.
Overall, I'm going to follow along and mostly "trust the process." I think this staff really works and has their eyes wide open about what is happening around the sport. As someone who has a half an eye on Syracuse at times, they still debate whether it is a good idea to hire a GM type for their program. I don't even see that as a question, and as someone who wasn't always complimentary of Matt as a fit in his prior role at SJU I think he was a perfect hire for his current role.
I am as close to certain that most folks here will be thrilled with the roster in a month or so. They always are! And the handful that are never happy will remain miserable too. And then next year there will be games and reality will win out. As it always does.
Change is change, and for all the hand wringing about the current state of the game this board is hopping way more than it would have been, say five years ago. And Trilly Donavan is making a new living.
Isn't that the most important thing?
