SJU Portal Targets

When you have not won a dance game in almost a quarter century, hire a HOF HC, have a decent NIL base, desperate fans like me tend to want immediate needle moving results. This Wild West environment precludes assuming anything. I think they have a good portal yield this off season and position us to compete well and possibly dance, but logic, as LMF has said, may make this is a three year process.

This season we competed well winning 11 conference games and almost made the dance. Year 2 must be a jump forward IMO

We lost a lot of pieces in scoring column, can’t bank on the two waivers and must really do well in portal to improve last year’s roster. If they do that I agree. Am also factoring in natural progression of returnees

I'm banking more on the latter for our success next year. Most of our returnees have barely a year or two of DI ball under their belt.

Not everyone is a finished product on day one. Ok, Willie Glass was a finished product on day one. But most get better. Some get a lot better. And they play better together.

Continuity rules.

Don't disagree with any of your points. Just that in general Year 2 must be a tournament season IMO.

I agree, the losses of Jenkins, Ledlum, Dingle, Alleyne and Soriano will be felt in the scoring column. And while Joel’s production did drop off, he was still good for at least 10 ppg.

Even if you bring in a defensive stopper like Clif O, coach will still have to bring in some players who can score as replacing 80% of the offense will be a tall task.

Trilly in discord says Kansas and Uconn are the early schools to watch on Brea.

Trying to be patient and not get frustrated, especially because we only have 5 available scholarships so it's not like we're putting together a whole roster from scratch this time. But I'd be lying if I said my patience isn't starting to wear out, fast.
Why do we only have 5 available scholarships? Pitino said he thought he'd need to find 6 or 7 new players, but maybe he was just talking off the top of his head.

Because right now we already have 8 roster players and that’s assuming Ledlum can’t return. Pitino gave several different numbers on replacements needed, he had no way of knowing at the time.

I would have said out of some other part of his anatomy as he's wont to do, but YMMV.

Anyway I think some dominos will fall here, the board will predictably either be overjoyed or miserably disappointed, and then around December we will have an idea where in between those two extremes the truth lies. Early indications are certainly not that it will be "we knocked it out of the park" but that's why they play the games and as Logen has noted, chemistry and fit matter - on a good team the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
