There are posters on here talking about all of the number 1 recruiting classes, and the possibility of winning national championship(s)....all from a coach who has never coached a single game before. And I am the one who need a reality check???

All he has is a link of a post from Sherman Sheridan and Grant. But he takes one poster and generalizes the whole board.

Jumbo is an internet troll I've seen so many times before. He doesn't necessarily break forum rules but he's still a troll at the same time. He disguises himself as a guy who just has an opposing opinion. But it's not that. He purposely projects an opinion that is the opposite of the majority of the board just to piss everyone off.

Just go back and look at game threads from this year. The entire board loved Dangelo Harrison, so jumbo made it his mission to diss DLo every time he could.

When the board was in agreement Lavin was a bad game coach, jumbo would post everytime a player made a mistake and sarcastically ask if it was Lavins fault. "Was it Lavins fault obekpa elbowed the butler player?" "Was it Lavins fault Obekpa smoked weed?" You get what I mean.

And now every body loves the mullin hire and the moves he's making. So naturally jumbo takes the opposing view. Not because he believes in it, but because it makes people angry. So that's his presence on this board, summed up in 3-4 paragraphs.

Oh yea, and for those wondering, schools pretty much done for me this year, still not planning on posting much, but jeez I check this board once and see this guys posts running rampant, time to put a stop to it

Yeah, all the guys you mentioned are actually big supporters of Coach Mullin. I don't see that changing for a very long time, if ever. Coach Mullin commands respect and is a big part of the St. John's family.

I know we all want and think it is going to work out, but there is just as much probability that it won't. Are you willing to turn your back on the greatest player that ever played here? Because at the end of the day, it's all about wins and losses. What are you going to do IF in 4-5years, we are still not winning enough?

I am not a troll, I am just someone who was raised and taught to look at all sides of a situation, to try to understand other points of view. The fact that someone could have a view different of their own is the real problem that most posters here have.

If your reference to Lavin being a bad game coach. And I apologize because I don't really want to get into this again. The problem was that people wanted Lavin gone so bad (right or wrong), that they were making every negative thing about this team be Lavin's fault, whether it was his or not. He made ALOT of mistakes, but not everything was his fault, and people didn't want to admit that. My main arguments were that, at some point, we needed to start holding the players accountable, and posters on here just did not want to hear that.

And as far as the Mullin hire, I never once said that I did not like the hire. I think its a great hire. As far as the moves he's made....yes, I question them, but that is mostly due to the players he has signed, and here's why (and I have said this time and time again): If we had any other coach in the world, and we had this recruiting class (regardless of when they were hired), the majority of the members of the board would be bashing it all the way through the season.

So like I said, I am not a troll. I just view things differently than the people here.....but I will not apologize for that.

It's always fun to start the season with hope, instead of always chanting, "Wait 'til next year."

Well you've touched on something here. While it's great to be optimistic, I think we should me more so cautiously optimistic, and may in fact have to "wait till next year" as what usually occurs with most coaching changes in the NCAA. Staff is doing a terrific job bringing together what is still left out there at the tail end of the recruiting process, however, the extremely high expectations coupled with society's or the current generations "instant gratification" issue, can lead to many on here jumping ship or a complete 360.

I think they should have a grace period, as CM has never even been a HC on the floor of a NCAA game in his life. Not sure if there is an assistant who will be in charge of X's and O's but I think that the wait one year thing, unfortunately, should apply here too.

Basically a month in, having to put together a whole roster anyone should have been given the benefit of the doubt. Let alone the program's all time best player. Criticism when warranted is understandable. You invented criticism and that is where you lost your credibility.

For the record I am against any kind of banning, really for any reason but certainly not for being negative(no matter the motive or how annoying it is). Just my opinion.

Agree with WASJU, JP, and I think many look at me as a Debbie Downer since the coaching change. If t his was the staffs third recruiting class than outrage and disappointment would be generally acceptable. But it's their first. Even if they're not recruiting some of the nation's top talent they appear to have been able to connect with a range of kids who can contribute and most importantly they appear to be building a roster that addresses all of a team's needs from bigs to smalls. They appear to know they need another PG and are working hard towards that as well. I think they are showing that they have the potential to continue to grow and improve their recruiting and the roster.

Now they have to show they can coach up the kids they bring in. It's said that those who can't teach. Now sure that's not meant to imply that those who can can't teach, but it's certainly not a given that those who can will be able to pass on their immense talents, nor is it necessarily true that those who are tremendously motivated are necessarily great motivators. That's the next step for Chris and staff and we won't know for some time which way this will go.

I understand what you are saying some of the posters/posts, there are a few delusional pollyannas. But it is a catholic institution that is accepting back a returning Messiah so we are seeing a lot of blind faith and hope. As an atheist I don't have a lot of time for that kind of thinking myself but I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority on that as well.

I actually stayed away from this thread for now because I figured there would be some hyperbole and then the obligatory Peanuts blast. Based on the last few pages (I haven't gone to the beginning) I was at least right in one case.

Austour, the point about this being different if this was the third glass of this regime instead of the first is valid and one I made to JP previously. I also pointed out that many would be all over Lavin because he caused this mess. However, I have to believe Jack is right, because he latches on to what one or two posters say and uses a Broad brush to hit all. And when you call him out on if for proof, its off to another thread for him.

Yes, there has been hyperbole and some over the top comments by some. I believe we will be moving on up and the staff is apparently working harder than the previous one for whatever reason. But then again, the previous staff also worked hard when they got here otherwise they wouldn't have been gotten the results they did with the Harkless and Harrison class which was their first spring and summer recruiting cycle here.

I like the buzz and excitement the staff is generating. The proof as with all things will eventually come out in the ultimate results.

Yeah Jumbo, god forbid that this fan base ever dreams of ever doing big things huh. Nah, it could never happen here even though we got 2 top recruiters to bring them here, and a great basketball mind in Mullin. Shame on us for thinking we could ever win NC's like almighty Duke and uk.

I know I don't post as much as I did in the early years of redmen.com but I still read as much as I can - I say "as much as I can" because usually this time of year is hard for me to find time and sometimes I can only stomach so much negative bullcrap before I decide to go do something more uplifting like grading grammar quizzes or scouring the bathroom.

Thanks to the relevant, positive posts that have been being posted. I don't think everything in life is always sunshiny but I appreciate it when the sun pops out and choose to put my umbrella away and break out my flip flops and fire up the grill when it does. Actually, I can use this very, same quote on a few others when Lavin was coaching. In some ways, I agree Jumbo may be trolling. Although, he and I butted heads once, his trolling or "views" doesn't bother me.... At least, not at this particular time. Will it in the future? That's certainly possible. But his trolling isn't any different than several others from the past two years or so. I can say, without calling out some posters, there were folks who was blatantly trolling or sharing their "views."
