SJU Baseball 2017

We got right back on the horse today and pummeled Western Carolina 9-1. Josh Shaw (So, 2B) had 4 RBI, including a 2 run HR.

Pitching star was Ryan McAuliffe: one run on two hits over 7 innings, struck out 7 Catamounts.

We are 10-1 and I expect (despite yesterdays loss) we will edge up a few places in the rankings.

Next up, the Gaels of Iona on Tuesday in New Rochelle.

Nice bounce-back for St. John's baseball to East Carolina loss. Hammers solid Western Carolina. Probably looking at top 15 ranking. #stjbase

5-4 win over Liberty

Good old fashioned double-header tomorrow also against Liberty. Today's win came in 10 innings. John Valente went 3-4 and is batting a gaudy .536 in 57 plate appearances.

We are up 3-0, mid 7th.

4-2 us Final. Very solid outing from Ryan McAulliffe, 5 hits over 6 2/3 and Joe Kelly flawless in relief getting the last 7 outs.

Cold as heck in Lynchburg VA, 36F. That's not baseball weather!

In the second game of the double-header vs Liberty we were down 6-2 in the third but we chipped away and tied it at 6-6 top of the 8th. In the bottom of the 9th, with 6'7" Gavin Hollowell on in relief, Liberty started with a double, a single and hit batter to load 'em up with no outs. Winning run came in on a fly ball and we lost 7-6.

Only our second loss this season, our record is now 12-2.

Next up: NYIT in Old Brookville on Tues Mar 14.

Hope they are using a different color baseball so it doesn't blend in with the pending Blizzard

Won 4-3 over Iona today. Close game, we were up 4-1 but in the bottom of the 9th Iona loaded the bases with 0 outs... We are now 13-2.

Another day, another game, another win. This one 6-3 over UMass Lowell. Anyone know why Ryan McAuliffe left after 1 inning on the mound?
