Sima Transferring

Just saw the email from STJ , i'm shocked . This came out of nowhere

I'm not. He's seemed upset about playing time. Bottom line is, thus far, Tariq has outplayed him and has deserved the playing time.

oh ok I didn't know you could gauge his feelings from watching a game on Tv, but I agree Owens is the better player.

Matt speed dialing Juco contacts, looking at fifth year transfer bigs crystal ball & developing Plans A-C in case Big Zach does not qualify.

Just heard

I believe he is reading the tea leaves very well regarding playing time.

I am not distraught because he was frustrating to watch, but they should throw out those tea leaves if it is saying Alibegowhatever is better than him

You are very witty mocking players you don't like but AA brings passion on and off the court and that adds something to the team, like him or not.

He is not better than Sima

What benefit does he have of transferring mid-year? Will he be eligible halfway through next season? If so I can sort of understand him jumping ship.

Obviously don't know details but not a good sign of character that the moment things start looking down you bounce. Would prefer a kid who gets motivated by pitfalls rather than looking to leave. Nonetheless he is young and wish him luck.

Yes, exactly right. Would be eligible second semester next season.

I'm paranoid when it comes to the program, so my first instinct is to hope that it doesn't turn into a full-blown mutiny.

Aside from that, I wish him well in his next destination. He's got a lot of potential, but regressed this season. Hopefully his next coach can bring it out.

Any uncommitted juco bigs eligible second semester? We need bodies.

Yes, exactly right. Would be eligible second semester next season.[/quote. But the net result would be loosing a year of PT as opposed to transferring at the end of the year. W someone as raw as Sima that would have made more sense.

Unfortunately Al;ibecovig will be the first big man off the bench. Still prefer Freudenberg who at least has basketball sense.

I don't love to bash players while they are here, but in light of this news.. What do Sima and Roberto Duran have in common??

Hands of Stone!

Sima had regressed since last year. I blame him for a lot during the losing streak. He was terrible at offense. We will miss his size on defensive end and for depth, but good lord, the kid starts up till last night, and then all of a sudden transfers? What a baby. That is vintage participation-trophy generation.

Too skinny this year as a backup at PF. Better suited at the 3 . Also has a love affair w the 3 pt shot.

Rest assured a program or two was in his ear before today. That's just the way of the world. Short term his leaving just makes us thinner up front. One injury to any of remaining bigs will present a real problem obviously. As many have said, it is all about next year, so no use getting crazy about this. It was surprising and regrettable though.

An initial thought I had as well, but by and large this seems like one of the most engaged group of kids collectively we've had in a while, notably when it comes to rooting for each other. Ponds is out there getting whatever he wants last night, and seemed like his biggest reaction was when Mussini went coast to coast to end the half. There was similar moment in Tulane game between Lovett and Yawke, Owens a big energy guy, the bench in general (where Clark/Simon seem particularly active), etc. Hope this is the case.

Wish Sima the best, mid year timing not ideal especially given our lack of depth, but he needs to do what is best for him and hope that is all this is. He just seemed to lack energy this year. 60 blocks last year, right there with Yawke, only 5 this year to Yawke's 31. Small reference point but something just didn't seem to be adding up.

Not a huge blow, but still a loss to the program. I thought by his senior year he would have been a serviceable big man. Perhaps a 10pt/6reb type of guy. At the very least we lost depth up front. I'm sorry to see him go, but best of luck.

Let the true small ball begin.

Not great news considering we are already thin up front.. Things like this if at all in season usually happen around the Christmas break so Sima leaving early is indicative of severe unhappiness. Type of kid who would have been a good 4 year program player no matter how his minutes and his play were down this year. Now once again we reset with another scholarship. Rutgers will make a play for Sima I am sure. Good win yesterday.. bad news today :(

Don't know about STJ but Xmas break starts tomorrow at my daughter's college . . . Just checked St Johns classes end Monday and Finals for a week after that. No doubt Sima was unhappy and the timing makes sense to me if he doesn't agree with his role on the team and wants to play next year. He can concentrate on finals and then get right into looking for a new school with eligibility at next year's Xmas break. Rutgers commitment would make the weather comments wrong.

I imagine Jack's watching him from the student section.

Exactly, he now loses the second semester of this year and the first semester of next year, his junior year. So he winds up losing a little less than half a year both seasons unless he decided to sit out all of next year along we this half year. He would get two full seasons that way instead of a year and a half.
