St. John's sophomore Yankuba Sima has been granted his release to transfer.

Just saw the email from STJ , i'm shocked . This came out of nowhere

I'm not. He's seemed upset about playing time. Bottom line is, thus far, Tariq has outplayed him and has deserved the playing time.

Lackluster play a reflection of being unhappy whether it was homesickness or weather as both rumors have been circulating. Just seems dumb (immature) to do it a few games into the season unless there is some family emergency.

Posted here or on JJ that he was not a fan of NY weather
I blame Al Roker and this polar vortex thing this weekend

Sima must think he is Akeem Olajuwon

I don't know what happens behind the scene. But Sima looked very good before his injury last year. He looks like he has regressed. Knowledgeable posters don't even think Zack will be eligible next year. The biggest advantage of Sima is he provides depth. Our bigs accumulate fouls quickly.

I believe he is reading the tea leaves very well regarding playing time.

I am not distraught because he was frustrating to watch, but they should throw out those tea leaves if it is saying Alibegowhatever is better than him

You are very witty mocking players you don't like but AA brings passion on and off the court and that adds something to the team, like him or not.

Maybe Darien Williams was doing that sideline boat move or whatever it was when Sima told him on the bench he was leaving. DW come on down to the scorers table

I would imagine the timing coincides with finals week and the end of the first semester.

Unfortunate. I know he's played poorly, but seems like a great kid and I think he has the upside to be a solid big in the conference. I'm confident we will get another big body for next year, in addition to Brown, because that's what Matt does. But I had high hopes for Sima to develop into a good player here.

Low energy low effort too much dribble no rebounds no offense. Good luck wherever you go. I'd much rather see alibabavitch and Owens who both bring energy to the floor. Only way this hurts is if anyone else leaves or gets hurt

Not great news considering we are already thin up front.. Things like this if at all in season usually happen around the Christmas break so Sima leaving early is indicative of severe unhappiness. Type of kid who would have been a good 4 year program player no matter how his minutes and his play were down this year. Now once again we reset with another scholarship. Rutgers will make a play for Sima I am sure. Good win yesterday.. bad news today :(
