Seton Hall, Wed., Feb. 1, 8:30p, CBSSN

Creighton scored 52 in each half against us last week. Defense supposed to be CMA staple

Anderson BSed his way into this job after being fired at Arkansas and the dopes who hired him believed it as did many fans and posters on this site.

My first glimpse of his BS is when he stated he came here to win a National Championship. The second was the 40 minutes of hell mantra when his team was ranked above 300 amongst D1 schools in defense.

How do you know Anderson BSed his way into getting hired?

Lastly, the "40 Minutes of Hell" is a slogan fans held onto moreso than Anderson. He played some pressure ball, but no way any college team can consistently play that sort of style nowadays.

i do think this will be the nail in the CMA coffin. You can’t play a team who’s starting 5 has four fouls for the last 10 minutes of the game and lose. You can’t leave Joel, arguably our best player, on the bench as long as he did when we need somebody to go inside out against the zone. You can’t have Colby King running our offense. You can’t allow Curbelo to make the same mistake time and time and time again and not bench him. It’s like this coaching staff is somehow afraid of him. Like wtf. Coach doesn’t even look his way when he makes the same stupid passes and jumps in the air without a plan. Sit his ass down and tell him he’s never playing another minute unless he cleans it up, then run his ass into the ground at practice.

Some thoughts after getting back from the game.

Soriano looks sped up now as teams are just making sure he's not the one that beats them. SHU threw 2 or 3 guys at him every single touch, lots of times they were on him before he even got the ball. That said, CMA kept him on the bench far too long in the second half.

Storr was hot early but then nothing was run to put him in a position to make a play. At this point in his career he's not the type of guy that is going to just get the ball and blindly create his own shot like Jones and Curbelo. Run something to get him open or driving to the basket. SHU ran plays non-stop for Dawes and it worked.

Curbelo is obviously a mental midget of the highest order. He fully deserved to be thrown out there. Him and Ndefo were jawing with each other just prior to the double tech where the ref had to get them together and tell them to cut it out. They then bumped each other immediately after and the ref is always calling a double T there to nip it in the bud. Don't know why Curbelo reacted like he did, a double tech isn't a big deal unless you're in foul trouble, which he wasn't.

King can't play at this level yet. He was on the floor for extended minutes during SHU's second half run and they were targeting him. He had no chance against Dawes.

This team just doesn't have enough shooting to compete in 2023. SHU isn't a great shooting team either but their run was propelled by 3s from Dawes and Harris.

No idea why Stanley didn't play after the first few minutes of the game. Nyiwe played somewhat decently but still think Stanley could have had more of a role in a game like this. Also, don't understand the offense/defense subbing with Soriano/Nyiwe at the end of the game but it was pretty much over by that point anyway.

Mike Anderson absolutely cannot be the coach of this program next year. The other coaches in the Big East are too good and the game has passed him by.

Just back from game…another disappointing performance…,SH is an OK team that we should beat…my take is that SH out-toughed us. . .they play with a mean streak and we played tissue soft. Once again, instead of tacking onto a lead in the 1st half, we played lazy defense on 3 straight possessions putting no pressure on their guards resulting in three consecutive 3s, compounded, on the offensive side, by our usual poor shot selection.

Despite that, we had a chance to win. But, when they went to zone, game fell apart for us.

Anderson on Curbelo ejection: "I felt it really changed the trajectory of the game."

No one answered my question but at this point, I guess it doesn’t need answering. This answer is such bullshit. We IMMEDIATELY took a 7-point lead after this happened. They went zone and all of a sudden we couldn’t do anything.

You know, I was 23 the last time we won an NCAA game. 23!! That is friggin insane and I should have my head examined for even caring this much. We all should. CCNY, here we come.

WE ARE….insane.

Went to check Twitter and the first thing I saw was someone unironically complain about the lack of enthusiasm from the crowd. Yikes, that's enough Twitter for tonight.

Glad I wasn't able to make the game, but even the TV experience was a waste of time (and yes- watching via TV it was clear the crowd gave this program way more support than it deserves).

Well, tonight I saw a fat lady from Seton Hall and she was singing in the stands. On top of that, there was a dead canary found in the stairwell exit as people were quietly leaving and shaking their heads.
All signs point down the road to another season without any hope for a post season invitation to any tournament.

Tonight the lapses on defense were long and ugly.
Dawes shot two 3s over Posh without Posh barely reacting. After the Curbelo ejection he was slow and ineffective against the Hall. Kadary Richmond played over him and anyone from St. John's with his obvious height and talent advantage on the way to collecting 13 rebounds.

Joel Soriano once again played small, flat footed and in slow motion. Anderson tried the more athletic Nyiwe but alas, he can't provide enough points to help in the middle.
St. John's was in the double bonus with 12 minutes left and failed to capitalize with drives to the basket. King and Posh set up no one and the combinations Anderson put on the floor were not playing as a unit.

The coaching left a lot to be desired after the Curbelo ejection. The team came unraveled in the emotional turmoil that ensued. I saw Curbelo push and mouth off to Shoes in the scuffle. On any other team he would be benched.

CMA is now in a very precarious position. Can he keep the team together? Do the players care enough heading downward towards the end of the season? Certainly after watching the performances of players like Soriano, Curbelo and Posh I have renewed doubts. Those three players were supposed to be the cornerstone of the team with David Jones who now comes off the bench.
As I have said previously, this is a poorly constructed team and what should have been a strong and straight building block for the future is nothing more than a leaning tower more inclined to fall..

It appears this "must-win" game has rendered the season anticlimactic. I feel bad for the players, the coaches and the fans. We will once again be on the outside looking in during March madness. As for being the self proclaimed "New York's Team", we have been overshadowed by Rutgers, Fordham and the Pitino Iona comparisons.

I was at the arena tonight and watching us lose which was not that pleasant. Also it was not a great night for the coach IMHO. First and foremost he needed to have sat Curbelo down before he was thrown out. From my very close to the court seat it was totally clear that he was emotionally out of control and should have been taken out immediately. The whole thing was a distraction that took quite a bit of the wind out of the team's sail. Curbelo is a different type of personality but it is still the coach's job to harness his skills and get him to operate in the best interests of the team as a whole. His emotional escapades have been to the detriment of the team and the coach needed to be better on top of it.

To me the other defining moments of the game were twofold: First us not finding Dawes on defense and having him nailing multiple open threes in the second half was a bad look. We saw this act on December 31st and watching it happen again, without making the proper adjustments was frustrating to see. Second and most important was our poor response when Holloway went to the zone in the second half. We had zero clue of how to attack it and that is when the game really got away from us. Again it is hard not to look at coaching for much of this. Personally I have been mostly a Mike Anderson supporter, but for the growing chorus who want him gone tonight's game gives them plenty more evidence to support their point of view.

Lastly, I have a very different take on Posh's performance tonight than things I read throughout this thread. This game thread seemed to be mostly critical of him, but I thought he was actually heroic in defeat. Again, because I sat very close up I was able to see him wincing in pain throughout his entire 25 minutes on the floor. He played incredibly hard and gutted it out despite being well below 100 %. Personally, I found his heart and effort inspirational and also though his play, especially on the defensive side of the ball, was excellent. I would venture to guess that most guys would not have suited up in his condition, but Posh really is as tough and hard nosed a player as we have had in many years.

I saw Curbelo push the strength coach off him, are you sure you saw it with Shoes as well?

BTW we pushed the lead to 7 points after curbelo was ejected. It ended up hurting us for sure, but it didn’t kill us right then. The damn 2-3 zone killed us.

Agree re: Posh, but I think it got to the point where he probably should not have been out there. As fans, we're frustrated when guys don't play through injury, but there's usually a good reason for that.

I also wonder if Soriano got hurt a lot more then he let on against Villanova. There's a clear line to his decline in production from that moment. It just looks like he's not going up as strong, and you have to wonder if he's in pain, or is at least sore, and is being cautious. It also looks like "bad-boy Pistons" style defense is very effective against him Grab, bump, grab, hit, and when in doubt, grab him some more. They can't call every foul. That takes it's toll.

Both Posh and Soriano come across as guys who, if you ask them about their physical condition, will always say they are fine no matter what. Sometimes, they made need to be saved from themselves.
