@Seton Hall, Tue., Jan. 16, 8:30p, FS-1

Thing that pissed me off about last night is that seton hall roster talent wise is just decent, nothing mind blowing, but they showed up ready to compete and outworked us into a blowout. Whether Rick was on the sidelines or not, that’s a bummer. That hasn’t happened to us really since the Michigan game, and due to our improvement I didn’t think it would happen again.

But it just goes to show that if you don’t show up with your A game in the Big East, you will pay for it. That’s why I gotta stop counting the DePaul/GTown games as wins. Nothings an easy win until you go out and make it so

Onto the next I guess

Shaheen can coach, first that St. Peter's team and now with this team. They are not superstars but play the game the right way. Gritty, tough and get after you. Effort wins games.

CRP will have us doing that too. Either later this year or in the future. But you have to sit guys who are not giving you effort.

I disagree that this was our only regular season stinker. Michigan was and so was Boston College.
No one is saying this was their only poor game. It is more in line with understanding that everyone has them, even the top teams.

Also, it is dangerous to take the last game you played as a measuring stick moving forward.

I think that is the point many of us are trying to express.

I take a different view. I love the way we played Creighton right down to the wire. It was nerve-wracking, to be sure, but we played a good and previously ranked team in a hostile environment. Tonight's beat down was a real bummer and leaves me wondering...where do we go from here?
We go on to the next game. The pre-game commentator LaVall Jordan, perhaps prescient about last night's game, was speaking about just that. You have no time in this conference to dwell on any loss as you have to be prepared for the next tough game ahead of you.

We may need to consider sacrificing a live chicken in order to lift whatever curse hangs over this program. ;):D:oops:
Speaking of live chickens, Ozzy Osborne could have coached this team last night, or played and it couldn't been worse.

If Jenkins was on my JV team at Nazareth, Coach McMullen would bench him if he didn't get at least three other guys touching the ball before a shot goes up, geeze.

All this attribution of this loss being a result of a flawed roster of mid-major players and a mid-major coach at the helm last night is maddening. For example, how is anyone qualified to question CRP's assessment of the talent on his team, when he says that Jenkins (and his other target Clayton) could have started for him on his successful Louisville teams? And were other high majors like Tennessee and Rick Barnes also wrong when they successfully recruited Ledlum? There are countless examples of players coming from non P-5 conference teams and performing well. While this team is far from perfect, it is not made up of a cast of misfits as some are painting out to be after last night's loss.

Some Points:
1. Rick does make a difference. As does Dingle.
2. Glenn Taylor needs to be more patient and less cavalier with the ball.
3. Wilcher needs some work and development.
4. It was Dylan's "grudge match" because he wasn't good enough to play for a Pitino system and despite his lucky shooting night, he looks out of shape. Now that he got that out of his system, when Rick is back and the game is at UBS it will be a radically different result in a few weeks.
5. Zuby needs more minutes regularly - was a stud last night.
6. Soriano had an off-game but still should have stuck with him more and had more bigs in at once to play with Zuby.
7. Turnovers are killing us. We need to stop making silly passes. If we find ourselves getting in the mud also, we should switch to true Zone for some games not this matchup or man to man when we are so out of rhythm. We were missing so many people all over the place that just chucked up 3s.
8. Rebounding has to improve.

I don’t get the concept of thus being a transitional year. Many have pointed out that Pitinos second year at programs were better then his first and while perhaps true, that was based on him bringing in outstanding young talent and developing it. When you rely on the transfer portal to build a team, then you practically lose your entire team the following year you are starting all over again.

Coach must do better in the area if HS recruitment and develop such talent. Based on what will remain next year from what we have now, and what us recruited so far, unless we bring in some studs in the transfer portal can you really feel confident about next years results?
Agreed. But at least we have a baseline
Wilcher - Cruz - international recruit
Luis - Taylor - Dunlap
Zuby - Dressa
Unless some kids leave.

Is the Hall rematch really at UBS? Now we're in serious danger of getting swept by them when the game could have just been at CA where we'd have a way better chance. I didn't mind playing Hofstra there, but every Big East win matters and that game should have been on campus

I get the, it was one game, etc., rationalization but that loses a bit of its credibility when the problem is lack of effort and repetitive mistakes. Last nights game was a disappointment to me not at all because we lost but because those were not only the primary reasons SJU lost but also the reasons the Johnnie’s were not even competitive. Competing hard is a choice, not continually reaching, putting yourself out of position or fouling, is a choice. Playing team ball and not jacking the first shot that shows is a choice. And right now this team is trying to navigate through a tough league making the same bad choices.

+100

Like one of the other posters mentioned, the odds r more players had covid. Tiredness could linger.
If that is the case, I hope we get some valuable rest the next 3 days and come out ready to make a statement against MU.

I don't think that SH is more talented then us, but they are a better team then us, and not just because they wiped the floor with us last night. But because when they were up early in the game, they delivered the knock out punch and never allowed us back in the game.

We're gonna have games like last night, every team does, but when our opposition has a game like last night, we need to finish them off just like SH did to us.

Richmond didn’t abuse anyone. . .Got what he deserved when he was knocked to floor going for dunk in garbage time. . .He shot a low % and only takes shots in the paint. . .Even Wusu didn’t shoot a good % - but he did make a number of big 3s. . .Dawes killed us on the offensive end.
On SH first possession he blew by Alleyne for a layup. On their third possession he did a spin move, went right through Alleyne's chest and sent him flying, and laid in another one. And Alleyne picked up two fouls in the first 6 minutes. Then they switched Taylor onto him and he shut him down.

Abused.

Sorry if it's been asked as I've only read a couple pages, but could more players on the team have had COVID and weren't playing 100%? Team just looked very off from all aspects (shooting, effort, decision making, etc.). That'd explain a lot.

Hoping Pitino (and Dingle) make full recoveries ASAP. COVID can be brutal for older people especially, but Pitino is in great shape so I'm hopeful they'll be back by Saturday.

This is so true. There are so many top teams that have had clunkers this year. But its always the most recent that they seem to base the season on (fans). Hopefully whoever is sick gets better fast and we are in good shape heading into marquette game to change the narrative after this game.
