@Seton Hall, Sun. Jan. 22, 12 Noon, FS1/570AM

Rebound, rebound, rebound. Delgado is the best rebounder in the league and Sanago and Desi really get after it. If we don't rebound we have no chance whatsoever.

SHU will be gunning for what they believe will be an easy target and easy win....especially after their recent disheartening losses.

As much as their frontline is better than ours, their point guard play was terrible and can be exploited. I bet we run some pressure during the game as long as we can not get destroyed down the court by their bigs.

Good point on SH PG, Madison, quite ordinary. This is a must win for SH & they will come to play IMO. I think their inside/outside combo of Delgado/ Desi, Carrington will hurt us badly. I fear Delgado will get our interior guys in foul trouble forcing Mullin to lengthen rotation & give Amar PT, never a positive sadly. Hey you never know, but not letting DP win get in away of objectivity.

Think in some ways this game marks the beginning of a mini-season within the season. We’ve cleared DePaul, and it’s nice to have taken care of business in both of those games. Halfway home against Nova/Creighton/Butler/X, and stole one of them. Even with 2 of 3 wins coming against DePaul, 3-4 is a very respectable place to be against this schedule.

Think how respectable things look at the end likely gets decided in the 7 remaining against SHU, Marquette, Providence, and GTown – the mini-season. Our odds are obviously long in the 4 left with Nova/Creighton/Butler/X, especially with 3 of those on the road.

Can we win 3 or 4 against that former group? I had us at 7-11 in conference before the season, so despite the rollercoaster season to this point, nothing to hang our head about if we get there or close to it with 6. Think anything more than that would be a big surprise, and 2-9 or worse the rest of the way a disappointment. 3 or 4 more wins, including .500ish against that mid-tier of the conference and 2-0 against DePaul, would be marked progress and something to build on.

SHU the toughest of those matchups for us IMO. Experienced, physical, long, skilled guards/wings as well as the obvious challenge up front with Delgado. As others have noted not a great time to get them at their place with nearly a week to let these recent losses marinate. If we can find a way to get one of the next two (other being @PC) would really position us well to achieve this objective. Tall order but looking forward to seeing what we can do.

A DP is always painful... at least that's what I hear :)

I think just the opposite. After getting crushed by a team they aspire to be like, they will be royally pissed and looking to apply a knockout blow. They will not be underestimating us at all.

Going to be an interesting game; Willard called them out after their loss prior to the Nova game, citing lack of defensive effort, and then they got blown out from jump street last night. Don't know if they are in a Michael Ray Richardson place or we will be the remedy to their ills.

I can't imagine us winning, but this is a season like many down seasons for us that is full of surprises. Unless refs get Delgado in foul trouble he will be a handful for our guys.

And Delgado will surely pump fake our bigs to death. I have no doubt this is being preached but them following instruction is another matter.

Their PGs are Jones and our old friend Jevon Thomas. Neither is a scoring option. When they play with one of them and Sanago (which they do most times), they can bother you defensively but are effectively playing 3 on 5 on offense. We should be cognizant of that and give the PGs room to shoot if it means doubling Delgado on the blocks or helping on Desi and Carrington.

Their guards do have reputations as being solid defenders, so will be interesting to see how our young backcourt handle on ball pressure from either Jones or Thomas. And Sanago is constantly getting in passing lanes and deflecting passes, so we need to be wary of that when passing.

And Powell, who shot the ball very well in non-conference play, has been in an awful slump. I've watched a few of their games and he is missing wide open looks. Has lost all confidence. Let's hope that continues at least one more game.

Hey I just saw this on the Seton Hall boards:

Our fans need to show up. To make a comparison, I've been told (and read) that St. John's has sold out every Big East game at Carnesecca this year. Granted, the gym is small, but a team selling out a mid-week game in Queens at 8:30 pm or a MLK day game in the late afternoon shows that at least a certain portion of the fan base is buying in, despite having a horrific season last year and being mediocre this season. They aren't just showing up for Nova at the Garden.

Porous defense is exactly what SH needs to get out of their funk.

Delgado is an obvious problem for us but not insurmountable. Don't let their guards get into feeling comfortable and if the guys want this game they play defense for 40 minutes and it is achievable.

I think we need to use our speed more in this game. We need quick hands on defense even if it means committing a few fouls so be it, must set the tone early then they will implode.
