@nation_st @bballtalk923 based on replay looked like whitehead said something to Johnson in handshake line. Johnson then went off. #sjubb

They were chirping to each other during game

It looked like Whitehead said, "Bitch ass" to Johnson in the handshake line....

I wouldn't exactly say that one team "started" it. Whitehead and Johnson say something when passing during the handshakes. Emotions get out of hand after a close, intense game. Nothing really out of the ordinary for a sporting event.

As for our players saying a gay slur towards their player, nobody will really know what was said. If you go on the SHU board, there's some people saying they are 100% certain something was said. I don't quite understand how they can be so sure if they weren't in the scrum (MSG was filled with boos towards the refs at this point).

At least none of our players flipped the bird on their way off the court like an opposing player did.

Is Gordon or any other player on SH a homosexual?

Gordon, why?

For me, the silver linings were. . .

1) leaving a game, for the 1st time in a while, feeling really agitated (vs. disgusted) that we blew an opportunity.
2) fact that our young guys were instrumental in comeback despite free throws and turnovers
3) Inside defensive presence and toughness demonstrated by Yakwe and Sima...SH was absolutely afraid to come inside mid 2nd half

Didn't see the replays but thought that we got jobbed down the stretch.

No senior leadership and lack of point guard really hurt.

Terrible last play..there was absolutely nothing that Sima could do with back to basket and 2.6 seconds left...didn't belong in middle of play unless it was drawn up for him to immediately pass back to a shooter...would have preferred to inbound to Yakwe could at least have turned to the baseline

Anyway, very exciting and all signs are positive

[NOTE: Spoke to another fan who shared a conversation he had with a non-SJ coach who told him that we have Grad Senior big coming in who will be best player on team...Perhaps Paultz et al...have an idea...encouraging news that hopefully can accelerate our ascent

Did hear Matt was targeting fifth year interior guy, but no clue who. The "best player on the team" comment may just be fan hyperbole I suspect. We are good at that. :)
The assessment was coming from the coach...the guy I spoke to actually didn't know the target..in any case, point taken, we have heard enough hype before

This is pure speculation, but Jimmy Hall (formerly of Hofstra and now with Kent State) will be a graduate senior. He was mentioned in an article about possible 2016 transfers, but to my knowledge has never been linked to SJU. He is a nice player originally from Brooklyn.
While he didn't know who it was, he didn't think it was the Hofstra kid...who knows...guess we will find out...

Any recruits, prospects at the Garden today?
(If so they certainly witnessed the heart and energy the Red Storm will play with...a no- nonsense team burgeoning into the scene)...any player of note in attendance?
Thanks

Cuz i was wondering about the use of a homosexual slur if no one on their team was gay. However if Gordon is, and someone in fact said one, I would hope that it's handled.

Anyway, after watching the replay of the handshake line, it looks like Whitehead looks down at Durand 's hand, refuses to shake it and says "f@ck outta here", which Durand replies by calling him a "bitch"...

Yes, I believe Gordon is openly gay

Wasn't at the Garden but watched on TV at work. Disappointed in slow start but phenomenal job by our guys getting back into it and playing their tails off. Definitely stings to lose it though, especially because we controlled our own destiny free throw-wise.

While we likely got jobbed a few times in terms of the officiating the fact of the matter is that if we do better than 10-24 from the line we win the game. Make your free throws. No excuses in this one.

The last play of the game was a god-awful play call. You absolutely cannot give the ball to a guy with his back to the basket with time winding down. It's a pretty fundamental thing even for coaches of middle school and high school players. There was virtually no player movement during inbounds and Durand Johnson needs to be an active part of the play. End of the day I don't care if its Chris Mullin, Greg St. Jean or Jesus H. Christ who draws up the play as long as it's good and executed to a decent degree. This was a horrid play call with 2.6 seconds left.

The extracurriculars after the game was disappointing, especially because this group of kids have done SUCH a fantastic job keeping their heads cool on the court throughout this trying season, and we hadn't seen any of this nonsense unlike Lavin's teams when we saw stuff like this all the time. FWIW, a friend of mine who is also friends with Derrick Gordon spoke to him after the game and Derrick said nothing homophobic was said that caused him to go off during scuffle. Just sounded like some trash talk and our guys (as well as SHU's) reacted to it.

Loved Yakwe today (how could you not?) and it's going to be really exciting to see what identity of a player he gets carved into offensively. He is bambi and so raw right now. Will he be a slasher? Back to the basket guy? Mid range jump shooter?? Looking forward to seeing the development he makes.

I really like Ellison at the point although he made some really really poor decisions down the stretch. He is continuing to make progress overall though which is great to see. I know Sima hasn't been the same player since injury but I think he just needs a bit of time to work his way in like Ellison did.

On to the next one...

Just got back from a 4 hour round trip car ride with the family from philly burbs to the game. Overall, really had a blast (despite the obnoxious/ignorant SH fan in front of me).

With each FT missed - I pulled out more and more hair! 50-55pct should he a minimum expectation from the charity stripe!

Great crowd (once they have us reason to cheer) and I really enjoyed watching Yawke play and Balimous dunk was sportscenter worthy (but of course, he missed the FT).

Sub par officiciating didn't help either team. Better days are ahead!

Great effort against a good team.

This season will soon be over but as painful as its been to sit through dreadful blowouts and a close one like today with poor fundamentals like FT'S and passing, I become increasingly optimistic about where the team is headed.

I no longer care about Lavin and his shortcomings, lack of care etc. I no longer care that my favorite player is now the coach and has never coached before. I no longer care that we might miss out on 1-2 remaining top recruits (Alkins/Maker)

I do care though that we build back up a fan base that supports the staff and players in both good and not so good. I do care that we are out there recruitung players that have high potential even if not 5 star who want to be part of something great.

Things will get better...they already are.

I'll say this. As gut wrenching as the game was if you were a recruit at the game it was a good game to see and the crowd really got into it in the 2nd half

Jack should have pushed up his visit by one week.

I know Ellison had some mistakes down the stretch, but he deserves a lot of credit for his defense against Whitehead today. Forced him into his worst game of the season, as he was a non factor for most of the game.

Various thoughts, including some about Seton Hall:http://www.bigeastboards.com/

Fun. Great to hear your father's story but one thing doesn't make sense to a forensic accountant. If your father died in 1984 then how is the 33rd anniversary of his death in 2016? Just wondering......

Yep. Also I've mentioned this many times but I'll keep saying it. I love how he drives and gets to the basket

I think the "stupid" players were the ones fouling out in 15 minutes of court time?

This is Hall's best team in years with just 6 losses in late February during a rugged big east season.

The kids on our side deserve praise after this one. Our guys played a physical game and took over the inside when it was supposed to be the other team dominating inside. Their bigs were watching from the bench.

That team should be buying dinner for Whitehead. He bailed them out today

True, but he also put them in the hole with his 1 for 12 shooting (0 for 5 from beyond the arc).
